"58 Remmington with checkered grips
Date:
Just shot mine for the first time. I used 30 gr Pyrodex P, wonder wads, and .457 balls. All I can say is, if you can't hit with this thing, take up another sport and put the Remmington on display. It is far more capable than I am--just what I need to get better. This is a beautiful gun and displaying it will do it justice. Case hardening is deep and lustrous; the best I've seen in any Italian revolver. Fit and finish are supurb. Can't say enough. Thanks!

I finally got one.
Date:
I've always wanted a black powder pistol so my wife and kids got it for me for father's day. I absolutely love it. It is actually much more accurate than I expected. It takes time to load and more time to clean, but you should know that going into shooting a black powder pistol. I bought an extra cylinder and the reloading press. This doubles the fun with half the time. The checkered gips and case hardening are very attractive. It looks great on the stand on the mantel as well as being a good shooter.

Starting at the top!
Date:
This was my first time purchasing and using a black powder pistol, and I don't like buying cheap junk nor do I enjoy spending lots of money on second-rate equipment just because of the name. So I did a lot of research before settling on the .44 Remmy, and it looks like my research paid off.
Along with this pistol I purchased an extra cylinder and loading press so I can load the cylinders off the gun, which helps minimize the mess and saves wear and tear on the loading lever. I charged each chamber with 30 grains of FFF Goex black powder, capped them with #10 Remington caps, which fit perfectly, then Wonder Wads followed by a little bit of Crisco to seal things up even more. I've heard of folks who forego the wads and simply put a drop of 10-40 motor oil in each chamber after seating the bullets to seal things up and lubricate it a little bit.
I wasn't prepared for the sparks this pistol produced, but I loved it! Every cylinder fired flawlessly, and I experienced no caps falling off or no failure to fire. In a word, it functioned perfectly, shooting to point of aim at 25 yards with a reasonably good trigger. I couldn't be more satisfied! Free advice: Before firing, remove each nipple and apply some anti-seize compound to the threads, then make sure they are screwed down all the way and that they are all the same height. This is a good time to wear eye protection, and if it's convenient, some thin gloves.
Best of all, the brass trigger guard and color-case hardened frame are real eye candy. I splurged and bought the presentation box, and I'm glad I did. This pistol exudes craftsmanship and deserves a nice home when it's not being used.
Now to find a workable capper and holster/belt setup that equals the quality and craftsmanship of this well-made firearm!
