Pietta Model 1851 Navy Engraved Nickel/Gold .44 Caliber Revolver
The 1851 Navy Engraved Nickel/Gold .44 Revolver has all the heft and performance of the famous Colt Model 1851 Navy, with a stylish design that would have done the most vain of the Old West gunslingers proud. With its gold-finished cylinder complete with engraved naval battle scenes, scroll-engraved frame, hammer and loading lever and line engraved barrel, this is a looker as well as a shooter. It has a 1 in 36" barrel twist, and it uses #10 percussion caps and 6 x .75mm pistol type nipples. Barrel length: 7-3/8". Overall length: 13-1/2". Weight: 2 lbs., 7 oz.
This is a very nice pistol. I actually bought one. I actually have two early model 1851's and I can load and fire in under 3 minutes. They are very Easy. Clean up is time consuming. But I enjoy every minute of it. The only thing that I don't like is the Historical correctness. I bought one and then became involved with reading the History behind it. I discovered that the 1851 Model was a .36 Cal and not the .44. I would never try to stop anyone from shooting these wonderful Pistols, however my next one will be a .1851 .36 Cal. And since Pietta only makes the 1860 in the correct Caliber. I'll purchase that one soon.
As a retired U.S. Navy veteran, I wanted to add to my collection of Navy and Army Civil War era weapons. When I saw this revolver at Cabela's, I had to have it. It is the best looking gun in my collection. It is really better than it's described and the photos show on Cabela's web site. I would never consider firing these revolvers. I have a matched set in a Cabela's wooden display box that has a glass top, and is lockable. Everyone who sees them immediately want to touch them - so I keep the case locked. Well worth the money!
Timing was way off on cylinders. Pistol locked up.2 differant pistols. Returned them both for money back. Bought same pistol years ago, no problems. I'm a firm believer that a gun should shoot right out of the box.
