I researched all seat mounting systems and found this one to be perfect for our small harbor boat and purchased three posts, three bases and two seat mounting plates about three years ago. The boat has been used about a dozen times since then. I put the chair bases in all the critical locations and can move the seat posts around as needed. The posts come out easily when you need the seat to be positioned all the way down into the post mounting plate. The chair mounting base has problems though. I weigh 250 lbs and the the system really sweeks loudly when you turn your body in the chair or lean slightly, which is not good for the fish. If you oil all the plastic interfacing parts, the noise cuts down quite a bit, but is still there. Worst of all, the handles are plastic on the chair mounting base and the post. I just broke the chair mounting plate lever yesterday and when I got it off the post, I noticed that the plastic lining on the metal insert was cracked too. The lever and articulating mechanism really need to be metal, not plastic. I am sold on this system, however I will have to be very careful when unlocking the chair to be able to swivel around. A practical solution would be to disable the center postion locking pin so the seat swivels all the time, but I know that the Coast Guard would disapprove. I will also lubricate all the plastic interfacing areas to cut down on the squeeking and to help prevent the post plastic sleeving from cracking.
I bought the stainless mount to replace the steel mount that got bent. Stainless version bolted right on to where the steel mount was and should be a little stronger.
