Very Comfortable Paddle
Date:
My son and I have both used this paddle several times since getting it in May and we like it. First off, the foam paddle grips are very comfortable - as comfortable as any kayak paddle I have used. The paddle seems to be tough and well made. Using a small diameter shaft with foam grips to increase the diameter to a comfortable size probably keeps the weight down somewhat - good thinking BB. I was initially reluctant to get this paddle because of the foam grips - how long will they last and if they get trashed then the shaft would be too small diameter. Because I don't know how long the foam will last, I'm unwilling to give this 5 stars, but even if they do go I assume something like the Yakgrips will work out fine.

There are better options for the price
Date:
I purchased this paddle to use as a lighter alternative to my Aqua-Bound. It was a little lighter and for about $8 less than the Aqua Bound. I have used the paddle for less than 10 outings in my kayak. While attempting a self rescue, using a paddle float, the paddle split in half! It cracked right at the locking pin area in the middle. My mistake was not having a spare paddle at the time and I was in trouble. Fortunately, somebody had JB Weld (JB Quick) and I was able to do an emergency repair and paddle home. I have used my Aqua Bound paddle for years and years and have done many paddle float rescues and has never failed me. It's a little heavier but nothing significant. I would only recomend the Bending Branches paddle for playing and recreational use. Not if your return home paddle depended on it. I also would not reccomend this paddle for long trips. If you ever needed to do an emergency re-entry in your boat, this paddle is NOT going to save your live.
