I bought the XL bag for working on fishing boats in the Bering Sea. My bag has been in numerous cars and planes, dragged across the ground, craned onto boats -- believe me, I don't baby this thing, but it holds up. Most of my coworkers also have these duffels and have used them for years, but other than a little dirt they all look to be in excellent condition. My bag stuffed full can hold about 65 pounds with the heaviest item being my toiletries bag, so it can fit quite a bit. I plan on buying a large for my shorter journeys.
There are only a couple things I might alter about the bag. The bottom is nylon and when I first bought it I was concerned about any waterproofing issues. Of course, the bottom can be sprayed with a water resistant coating, but even without it I haven't had any issues with water getting in the bag. It's sat in water and in snow and nothing inside got wet. Also, when I wear my bag as a backpack the bottom hits the back of my legs (I'm 5'5"), which forces me to walk a little slower and staccato as the bag hits my legs with each step. I doubt the smaller sizes would have this problem. Overall, though, I love my bag!!
