Benjamin Superstreak/Not for beginners,September 23, 2009
By Gunlover51from Rural Alabama near Auburn.
"I have had my .22 cal superstreak for several months now and I think it is an exellent rifle at a very reasonable price making it a great value. I have also read the other 12 or so reviews listed and would like to offer some insight concerning problems associated with the use of this rifle. I have fired several thousand shots through mine and I am very satisfied with it. First of all this is a very large and powerful airgun and if you are not accustomed to the reverse recoil impulse it generates you will find it difficult to shoot it to a consistent point of pellet impact. Even those with a lot of experience in shooting centerfire rifles accurately will have to learn how to control the movement generated by this airgun if they are to gain the satisfaction of small groups. The recoil isn't severe or painful but it does cause the gun to jump during firing and you must develop a consistent follow-through for small groups. My gun will group into about 1" at 30 yards for 5 shots. However, when the bore of the barrel becomes fouled it begins to throw its shots all over the target. When cleaned it shoots well again. Secondly, the trigger pull is heavy and has a huge amount of creep. I altered mine but I have decades of experience and there are operational hazards associated with making adjustments beyond those permitted by the factory in the instructions. The trigger pull is why I reduced my rating to four stars. Placing oil in the port which delivers the power to the chamber holding the pellet will cause a detonation as the high pressure of the air ignites the oil-even oil specifically made for these spring-piston guns! I had to replace my mainspring as it had broken into three pieces due to the severe shock imparted to it during the first several shots after I made this mistake. I use a chronagraph to measure velocities and despite the broken mainspring the gun still delivered an average 725 fps with a 14.0g lead pellet. After replacing the spring its velocity returned to 875fps, well above the rated 850fps. This gun delivers all the power claimed by Benjamin-Crosman. In fact, I have been reliably spliting open water-filled soda cans at a measured 95 yards! The accuracy of this gun and the good quality and features of the 4-12 Mil dot scope that comes with it makes this regular and spectacular achievement possible. I use Cabela's 14.3g hollow point pellet for these long shots. The bottom line is it is a fine rifle and scope combo well worth the money if you learn to manage the peculiarities of its recoil and master a consistent shot to shot shooting technique. The barrel is difficult to initially open; don't try to pull it open, knock it open with a slap near the muzzle and then pull to full cock. I also found that the scope to barrel alignment required me to shim the scope to keep the scope adjustment reasonably near center. If you can solve these problems you'll enjoy the gun, but it is not a gun for the beginning shooter."

POOR,August 18, 2009
By Iriefrom Mn
"I did not have a good luck with this rifle. Triger pull was excesave group was inconstant even after several hundred shots the worst problem was the triger would sting your finger every time you shoot after about fifty rounds I was afraid to pull the triger. One good point it had plenty of power."

great gun for a leftie!,June 18, 2009
By larrymoecurlyfrom kahului,hi.
"i got this gun in .22cal for harder hitting targets at a farther distance than .177 and it does the job well! the day it arrived i changed the trigger to a grt111 and i think it helps with hitting what you aim at alot! i am finding that different pellets come out of the gun and hits in a different spot on (good grouping)my targets at 60ft!i am 6ft 7in and its not a gun for short arm length people like my 10yr old! i did not think it was a loud gun after the first shot but you will need hearing protection after cleaning for your first shot every time or it will damage your ears or people near you! i do shoot it around the house in a neighborhood but only at a trap from inside of my shed so as not to freakout people thinking i am using a more deadly rifle! i hope the scope keeps my shots close for each type of pellet i use! like a inch at 40ft will keep me happy!"

Good rifle bad scope,March 30, 2009
By Neurosurgeonfrom Virginia
"Very solid air rifle, well made. The cocking mechanism is for someone with some degree of upper body strength, don't get this for your 8 year old. Very reproducible tight groups with reasonable trigger pull. The scope is not so good, you have to adjust for distance every time you move, and it topped out on zero adjustments before it would hit center target. I had to remove and remount the scope to get a good zero. In summation, this is a great air rifle for a serious user. It is not for beginners or little folks. If you don't know how to zero a scope your self, this one may frustrate you. Still a reasonable price for a squirrel gun. My 12 year old loves it."

nice rifle,February 5, 2009
By hunt4life54
"I bought this gun because I cant use firearms where I live and I needed something that could rival a 22. This did the job! The only thing I can say is that you should not expect it to shoot dead on untill you put a couple of hundred rounds through it."

.22 cal. Super Streak,October 13, 2008
By RedneckInNYfrom Hicksville, NY
"Only giving it 3 stars for now since I still haven't been able to get the thing to group for the life of me. Probably still needs time for the barrel to settle in before groups get tighter. I had a hard time with the scope it came with. I can't get the crosshairs locked down tight enough so I took off the scope and shot with open sights. It grouped better after that, but not by much. I was shooting at 35 yards and the best 3-shot group I was able to get was 4" and the worst being over 12". I have to figure out the scope and see why the crosshairs aren't locking down in place. I'll probably leave this rifle with open sights since I already have an RWS 350 Magnum in .22 cal. with a scope that shoots beautifully and with less noise. I do like the pistol grip on the Super Streak though, but I think it could be shaved down a bit as it is a bit fat for my hand to grip well."

This Gun is Amazing,October 9, 2008
By anash103from South Windsor, CT
"I purchased this gun with because of a recommendation from my friend. I am so satisfied with this gun. At first it is hard to cock but after it is broken in it becomes much easier to cock. The gun is on the heavy side but if you use it enough in a short amount of time you will be able to proficiently shoot it well. This gun is extremely accurate and reliable in even the worst weather. Also the first shot when it comes right out of the box, but after that it quiets down a lot. The scope is very nice, but I find it to add two much weight to the gun, so I rely on the iron sights. The iron sights are accurate to the point of a soda can 30 yards away, with relative ease. All in all this is a truly awesome gun and I recommend it to anyone who needs a serious gun for any purpose."

Disappointed,July 8, 2008
By somozafrom CA
"Harsh trigger pull which adds to it being difficult to make accurate shots on a heavy and unbalanced gun. Had to pull the scope off the mounts to relocate it forward to get proper eye relieve on the scope...in the process, discovered all the hardware on the gun was loose out of the box. Trigger mechanism gave up in less then 100 shots...its on the way back as I write this review. Had to ship it with the gun cocked because it will no longer shot!!"

benjamin superstreak,July 2, 2008
By khonefrom Appleton, WI
"Very bad trigger--the worst that I've ever experienced on an airgun or otherwise.
Couldn't get better than a 3-inch group at 10 yards, although I only fired around 30 shots.
Very large rifle. Didn't balance well. Difficult to hold steady on target, and I'm 6'3''. I'm going to return the rifle. Definitely not worth the money for me."

Benjamin Super Streak,March 18, 2008
By Macabeefrom Kansas City
"The Benjamin Super Streak is an awesome pellet rifle. It delivers a huge impact to the target courtesy of the .22 caliber pellet. If and when you can find the Crosman high-velocity pellets, it really packs a punch. One caution: the rifle’s cocking mechanism is extremely stiff right out of the box. In fact, I returned the first one I purchased because I believed it was damaged in shipment. The owner’s manual warns against using excessive force when cocking, but after a quick call to Crosman customer support, I was told to literally slam it open by laying the rifle across my lap and banging on the barrel with my clenched fist to get it to cock the first time. Apparently this IS a manufacturing defect, but one that can be cured quickly using this method.
One other thing to note is that while the scope that ships with the rifle is an incredible instrument, the mounts are too low and there isn’t sufficient clearance between the scope and the rifle to use the lens covers it comes with. The other thing about the scope is that I could not get it sighted in using the mounts it shipped with. There just isn’t enough sight adjustment in either direction to get it to the center of the target. I finally swapped this scope with one I had on hand and had it sighted in very quickly. Even with only a few rounds fired, it was accurate enough to punch out the center of the target with every shot."

Good Gun,March 17, 2008
By theDeuce22from Erie Colorado
"Overall this gun is a good shooter after about 100 rounds or so which they recommend. The scope isn't that great however. I sent it back because the upward adjustment was maxed out even when shooting 8 inches low. I found that the open sight is the way to go at 50 yds or closer. They did send a replacement scope promptly but it is still in the original packaging in my office. I think I'll try it on another gun. All in all, I really like this gun now after the break-in period and the scope removal."

Great Gun! Great Service,February 15, 2008
By BobInNewEnglandfrom In the woods in Conn.
"This is just a first impression. I will review the Super Streak (SS) in depth over the coming weeks. 1) Ordered .22 SS from Cabelas on Monday night, delivered on Thursday. Outstanding. 2) Beautiful gun, impressive scope, well packaged and safely double packed (box within a box with extra padding) 3) The SS is a large (over 4 feet) and heavy gun, but substantial in a nice, you-know-you're-handling-a real-gun kind of way. Adults and older teen age sons love it, pre-teen finds it a bit much to handle. Thumbhole an amidextrous plus for our three lefty shooters. 4) The first few times I tried to cock it, I couldn't (no jokes please), surprising for a kinda burly stocky 210 lb owner of a rack full of springers. I sat on the floor with the butt between my feet and pulled, barrel and works seemed to bend right out of the stock, but nothing budged. 5) I emailed Crossman right away, and within 2 business hours I received an email and phone call from a very knowledgeable rep at crossman who explained that they recently made them initially tight to avoid barrel droop, and how to thwack it to first break the barrel. It worked first time. 6) Very first pellet loaded (beeman crow magnum) blew apart a plastic soda bottle just after sun down with water frozen in it at 35 yds, no sighting in, so so visibility, just first shot. (Yes, this is a safe shooting zone, targets in front of 8 hay bales, with a dirt and rock hill rising 25 feet above the shooting backstop with 100's of acres of open space/wetlands behind it.) 7) Loaded one of the very light pellets included with the SS to try a second shot. Pellet very light, gun FPS too strong/high, broke the sound barrier with a loud "crack", and neighbors lights all went on. Heavy pellets for me from now on (I'll keep it under 1050 fps!). I'll stick to Crow Magnums and Kodiaks for now....So yes, the SS is honestly sporting that kind of muzzle speed. Bottom Line......Oh man, worth the wait....I have a 30 year old Sheridan Blue Streak and 15 year old Silver streak (as well as a menagerie of Gamos, Winchesters, Avanti, etc) , and always thought Benjamin Sheridans were some of my most solid airguns. The Super Streak is a worthy, more powerful, more refined member of the family. I was planning to buy a RWS Diana before Spring. I still may buy one. Someday. But the SS is more than I expected, more than I had hoped, and I am looking forward to putting a few thousand of a range of pellets through it. If anyone is interested, I'll post what I find, including borrowing a friends Chrono, with a bunch of different pellets. Perhaps some video on youtube. So far, after just a few hours, this seems like a pretty classic airgun to an admittedly spring-gun (well technically the old benjamins are hand pump PCPs.) amateur shooter. I'll check in with more results soon. Bob"
