Standard Adjustable Rod Covers are made of tough 210-denier ripstop nylon with adjustable shock cords to protect your rods whether they're riding with you to your favorite fishing hole or being stored in a rod rack in the offseason. A Velcro?- adjustable tip section fits rods from 5'6" to 8'6". Neoprene Reel Covers keep your spinning reels looking as good as new and protect your line from UV deterioration. "I think this is a good idea for protecting rods and reels while traveling. Also off season keeps dust out of the reel. I just spent money having several reels cleaned and oiled and was told they were pretty dirty.

I think there are some rod and reel covers that are made of heavier material but I think for most people these should work fine."
