Not Realistic,October 15, 2009
By ChristianUtahHunterfrom Utah
"Having purchased several Cabela's games for my PS2 I was excited when a couple of titles were finally released for the PS3. I didn't expect great graphics since the same game was also released for the Wii and is therefore limited. As expected, the graphics are weak when compared to other games available in for the PS3 with HD capabilities. This game takes out nearly all of the realistic hunting abilities that previous games have had. Other than unlocking new firearms, you cannot upgrade your equipment. In fact there isn't any equipment to even buy. No blinds, spotting scopes, scent blocker etc...
There isn't any wind to worry about or foul weather. You are forced to stay on certain trails and hunting areas similar to games 10 years ago. You can't climb over a mountain or choose your own path. The character can't build skills like accuracy or endurance. In fact the character can run forever without getting tired and then pull up and shoot without the scope bouncing all over from heavy breathing. As mentioned in another review there isn't a trophy room which is a bummer.
This game also takes away the fun by posting the stats on every animal as you look at it through your scope. This way you know from the stats if you are shooting a trophy animal before you ever pull the trigger. However, this is needed as it is very difficult to distinguish a trophy animal from a regular animal just by looking at it. This again is due to the poor graphics and lack of variety among the animals.
The game also has a feature that when you push a button on the controller it highlights the trail, highlights any game tracks, as well as the animals. Again, it takes away all realistic hunting elements. If you shoot at the animal and miss or wound the animal, you must restart the level. No tracking the animal or chasing it to get another shot.
If the PS2 games worked better on the PS3 I would just play those as they are much more realistic and therefore much more fun. This game was designed for 8 year olds. If you are looking for a fun hunting game to play when you aren't out hunting this game is not it. I guess I'll have to wait and see if Cabela's can get it right on the next title they release. The potential for a realistic hunting game with HD graphics is there and would be amazing on a BluRay PS3 game, but I won't hold my breath waiting for that kind of game."

Best hunting game yet,October 8, 2009
By dmb0485from Orlando, FL
"Hunting games have always been known for their poor graphics and rather horrible gameplay. This game takes hunting games in a step in the right direction. Visually the game looks amazing, and the gameplay isn't too bad. the only thing I would change on this game is to make the animals a little more realistic. What animal of any kind would let anything, let alone a human, walk 10 yds away from it any not even be spooked. All in all its the best hunting game yet so definitely go and purchase this one!"

Great game but ............,October 7, 2009
By savijNDNfrom Anchorage, AK
"The graphics are great on this game. The gameplay is excellent. I am so glad they brought out a new Big Game Hunter. The only thing I was disappointed about was I did not see a trophy room. All the previous cabelas games I have owned had trophy rooms to wallow in my hunting skills hahaha. That is the only thing I could say was missing."
