The next generation in the Outfitter Series tents has enhanced safety features and user-friendly updates that take it to a whole new level. Sidewall condensation vents now have hook-and-loop closures all around the perimeter for better ventilation control. Three large multi-panel windows each have a zippered cover, a clear vinyl window that zips out of the way, and a mesh screen for added ventilation. The stove jack is covered by a storm flap that now rolls down to avoid contact with the piping, so it won't melt the material. Sizes still include the 12-ft. x 12-ft. and 12-ft. x 20-ft., and the new 13-ft. x 27-ft. The 12-ft. x 12-ft. model with 4-ft. walls and an angled roof window comfortably sleeps six, with plenty of room for a stove. Our 12-ft. x 20-ft. model sports all the room of a traditional wall tent with extra-tall 5-ft. walls for more headroom around the edges. The 12-ft. x 20-ft. tent is also equipped with two large doors for easy entry and exit, and two center support poles for added stability. The 13-ft. x 27-ft. has the most interior space in the Alaknak series, making it perfect for large party hunters or base camp. It has an impressive 11-person sleeping capacity, 5-ft. walls, two large doors, two offset center poles and one exterior center pole. Rugged, waterproof 250-denier polyester oxford X-Treme Tent Cloth has a high tear strength and resists punctures for lasting reliability. 10 perimeter tent poles keep the sidewalls from blowing in and add rigidity in high winds, so you can camp comfortably knowing you're protected. The heavy-duty No. 10 YKK® zippers and inverted T-style door makes entering and exiting the tent easy. Plus, it's backed by a screen door, so you can let cool breezes in while keeping bugs out. The attached awning boasts a frame that comes down from the peak of the tent and directs runoff away from the door for superior protection in the wettest weather. The sidewalls have unique fold-down shelves that sport cup holders to eliminate spilled beverages and gear pockets to hold gear. The floor has a zip-open panel for safe placement and stove use. Tent sets up quickly and easily. Includes 12" steel stakes, guy ropes and a large zip-close storage bag.

    STOVE PIPE !!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 16, 2009
    By SpeedyNM from New Mexico

"OK, I have a 12x12 and love it. ONLY THING IS MAKE SURE YOUR STOVE PIPE SITS HIGHER THEN YOUR TENT!!!!
top of stove pipe should be higher then the top of your tent if it is not you can have some embers land on your tent and it will burn holes, also place a fire proof mat (any thing that will not burn) in front of the stove in case you have a log roll out of the stove. You should use screws to tie in your stove pipe so it will hold up in strong winds. Make sure to use extra long stakes like construction concrete form stakes on your tethers it will hold very well in high winds and will not bend if you hit a rock.

    hope this helps

"Our hunting group purchased a 12x20 Alaknak after our group grew in size. We hunted out of the 12x12 for 3 years and had no complaints. The 12x20 is roomy with lots of vents to combat the condensation problem. We set ours up with the stove in 30 minutes. Great product!"

    Alaknak 2, November 6, 2009
By arcobsessed from Northern Ontario, Canada

"Bought this 12' X 12' tent this fall and spent 8 days and nights in it. All I have to say is- great work Cabela's. It stood up to a wind and rain storm with no problems. The stove jack was my only concern. I believe the company could have gone 3-4 inches lower with its inflammable material. However, I did heat it up pretty good and it stood up to that heat with no problems. Well thought out tent. Easy to erect and take down. Loved it. Also loved the military cot. Very good product as well. Shopuld enjoy this for many years to come."

    Excellent Tent!, November 5, 2009
    By lbward from Charlotte, NC

"I cannot believe what I just read from the negative reviewers of this product. One stated that the tent was bad because the stakes pulled out of the ground! Another had a problem with the center poles falling over. I have had mine (the 12x20 model) for three years now and it has withstood strong storms on the Outer Banks of NC without fail. Driving rains, wind gusts to 35 knots, nothing has beaten this tent down. Here is the deal on the center poles - they can fall if the tent isn't erected tightly, or if the wall poles get loose in the wind due to poor soil conditions causing loose stakes. In these cases, one should get a little creative and figure a better way to anchor the stakes or even do as we did in the sand-bury a piece of wood tied to the guy rope. For my money, this tent is worth every penny. Erect it well and correctly and you have a nice dry cozy camping experience."

Excellent, lightweight tent, November 1, 2009
    By BROOU from VA

"My brother and I set this tent up the first time in about 20 minutes in pouring rain on our recent bowhunting trip back home in WI at the end of October. We purchased the 12' X 20' size - about the perfect size for four men, which is what we had in our group. We also bought the vestibule and floor liner, both of which I highly recommend. Over the next few days we had quite a bit of rain at night and stayed totally dry in the tent. The coldest the temps got down to were in the low 20's one night and we stayed comfortable with a Mr Buddy large heater hooked to a 20 pound tank. On one of the days we had high winds, with gusts at over 35 miles an hour, but with all the poles firmly set into the ground and ropes very taut, the tent stayed up throughout the day. All in all we were very pleased with this tent and we all highly recommend it."

Cabelas Alaknak Tent, October 31, 2009
By wblmh from clovis new mexico

"This past week was my third elk hunt with my 12x20 tent and im very pleased with its performance. It is very easy for two people to put up and not impossible for one person to put up. The last Three days of the hunt in the Gila National Forest we had 30+ mph wind and the tent rode it out very well. I will admit though that we have made our own tent stakes that we can sink a foot or more into the ground. It was cold enough to freeze our three 15 gallon water jugs solid, but with the stove going we stayed nice and warm. I have to say I really don't understand all the venting in the top of the tent esp. above the doors since it made a nice wind tunnel accross the top of the tent and lost a lot of heat. I good sleeping bag and cot is a must in cold weather no matter what kind of tent you use. The best thing about this tent is it has to be a good 50lbs lighter then my old canves tent."

"This tent does not stand up to high winds or cold weather. We bought one and took it to montana and it was not what we thought. Will work fine for pleasant weather and is easy to set up. In high winds the center poles will fall over beacuse of the lift effect inside tent since there is no frame and there is a lot of vents in tent so the cold wind will just blow right through tent when it is hovering around 0 degrees. We will be returning ours. The stove will keep the tent warm but you will never sleep because you will be putting wood in it all night. Cabelas has always been a great company and has desinged many great things but missed the boat on this one."

NY Adirondack camper, October 25, 2009
    By Jtab from New York

"I like to camp on lakes in the Adirondacks in early spring just after ice out and then again in mid fall for a week to ten days at a time to fish and hike. 3 years ago purchased the Alaknak 12x12 with the vestibule to do the cooking in. I can get the tent set up by myself in 30 min with the vestibule. It's kept me dry and warm with never a leak of any kind. I do have some minor condensation on the walls in the mornings but soon as I get the stove going it dries out quickly.
It hold up great in high winds and had plenty of space for 3 to 4 full size cots and gear.
I would recommend it very highly as it is easy to set up and holds up great.

    Very Impressed, October 10, 2009
    By xwardn from Oklahoma City

"I have been camping in remote areas for the past 30 years, involved in wildlife research, guiding, and just camping/hunting on my own. I have over a half dozen tents and bivy sacks at the moment, and have used wall tents extensively. My experience with various tents is quite extensive, and have always liked the wall tents for their roominess and ability to withstand heavy weather. I am 6'6" tall so I buy everything in XXL and need a LOT of room in a tent.

I tried to buy a new wall tent this past month for a last minute bear hunt in Arizona and could not get one on short notice. After reading the reviews and consulting with Cabela's staff on the Ultimate Alaknak, I purchased the 12x20 model and took it to Arizona for a week in the White Mountains. We arrived at our destination late, and without reading the directions, four of us put the tent up in about 30 minutes in the dark. I loved the extra room inside the tent and the ventilation setup kept the tent dry inside without any condensation. Initially, there was just two of us using the tent, but once it started raining and sleeting (we camped at 8,000 ft. elevation), the other two guys came over with all of their gear. We had 30 mph winds for two days and the tent barely rippled. I used a propane heater at night (temps in the low 30's) and we never had a condensation problem. I also noticed that the tent dries rapidly.

I think this tent would be great for 4 large hunters/campers with extra large cots and gear, but not for any more than that on an extended hunt or camping trip. For camping only and short term, it would be comfortable with twice the people using it. I think it would be a little frustrating for one person to erect this tent, but 2 people with 2 small sledge hammers could put this thing up in way less than 20 minutes if both knew what they were doing (obviously not for a first time in the dark). I'd certainly put it up in the yard first if you have the time before a trip.

This thing is sturdy, roomy, dry, fairly easy to put up after reading the directions, comfortable and loaded with extras on the inside (gear pouches, cup holders, zip out floor for a stove, windows, bug screens, etc. I think it's a great buy at half the price of a similar sized wall tent and I love it. I'm selling some of my other tents as a result. GREAT product for the money.

Buy the wood stove too!, October 8, 2009
    By Sidelocker from Washington

"I just returned from my first use of the 12 x12 Alaknak tent during Washingtons early muzzleloader season. I have used a regular canvas wall tent for the past 16 years ( and its still in great shape) but its a pain to set up and take down. My hunting party has decreased in size over the past few years and those that still make it often arrive the night before the opener and leave early. This left me to set up and take down either alone or with one other person, I wanted something more simple.
I chose The Alaknak as it seemed to be more than enough tent for my purpose. I have been looking at buying one for the past several years. I ordered it and in typical Cabela's fashion it arrived early. I set it up in the yard alone in about 40 minutes that included taking it out of the box and reading instuctions. It came down quickly and actually easily fit in the bag it came in!.
The Wa. Muzzleloader season is the beginning of October. Our camp is at 5700 ft. Generally we have nights around freezing and days in the upper 40's to low 60's. We stopped taking the wood stove for the Wall tent years ago. Initially to make more room for people. Later for simple convenience, as the weather usually did not require it. We heated with Propane heaters and could warm that tent up in minutes and stay very comfortable even on the coldest days. This year got very cold. One night was in the low teens. The propane heater was not very efficient in the Alaknak. The condensation built quickly on the upper part of the tent, although the side walls did remain mostly dry. We kept the side vents open as the instuctions state, We also kept the upper windows cracked open (with a paper cup) but the heat just runs out. We minimized use of the heater to reduce the moisture build-up. We did not end up with puddles on the floor and nobody got wet, just cold. Thank God for a good sleeping bag.
The tent shed the snow well, twice we had snowfall of about 3 inches each in just a couple hours. It also withstood 25-35 mph wind without barely flapping. In the afternoons the weather warmed and the tent did dry fairly quickly with all the vents and windows open. The day I left was in the 60's and the tent dried very fast.
I would guess that the dry heat from a wood stove would make a vast difference in the comfort level in a cool to cold environment. I will use a wood stove next time to see if there is a great improvement. If not, it will be back to the wall tent.
This tent is a good size for three guys and gear. a bit tight with four. How you would put six and a stove in there I have no idea.

    Great Time, October 2, 2009

"My family loves the out doors . Camping is natural as breathing to us . The performance of this tent ..ease of setting it up .. the amount of room inside ..the addition of the wood burning stove , we all liked the high walls and the best of head room ... all combined to lead to a month of care free and secure base for the whole of the family . It handled the high winds of a storm admirably , and the warmth of the stove was a welcome addition . I would recomend this tent to any who take camping in the wilds seriously as our family .

"Purchased the Ultimate Alaknak 12 x 20 used on a fishing trip late sept. in Alberta Canada. Had 4 people in it 2 in cots , 2 in a queeen size blow up bed. Purchased the outfitters cylinder stove, this is the right stove for this tent, kept us warm every night, also upgraded to the Cabelas Flame arrestor. Other must are the center plole hangers for lamps, and also purchased a small tabel and benches. Tent was great, had lots of room , stove worked real well once you figure out how to dampen everthing for the night. Also bought the outside cover for the tent to protect from sparks another must. Used RV outdoor matts for inside, easy clean up and ptotects floor. Set up time 2 guys , 2 hammers 1/2 hour. Had 20 to 30 mph winds with rain last night of trip , dry and warm and tent was solid. Dont cheap out , also don't go smaller , even for 2 guys this is the tent ."

    Great tent/great quality, September 22, 2009
    By skibum62

"Bought the 12x12 a couple years ago. I use if for family camping, including a mid October Northeast trip each year. Inevitably we have cold rainy weekends and I just go tired of previous tents leaking. Not a problem with the Alaknak! Easier to set up than my old Eureka tent - I can do it by myself easily in under 20 mins. This tent is comfortable in all weather and the stove works great, although not mandatory even in cold weather. The tent is roomy, great headroom and built to last. I also have the vestibule which i highly recommend - great for storing wet jackets, keeping gear dry and provides a weather lock for entering/exiting the tent. If you plan to use it for campsite camping, just make sure the site is big enough. Very happy with this tent - expect a steady stream of visitors - although inevitably they leave with tent envy - especially if the weather is bad."

Cabela's Deluxe Alaknak II Tent- AWESOME, September 6, 2009
By mspin51 from Rollinsford, New Hampshire

"After two seasons of camping in a tent trailer with two kids, my wife and I opted to sell the trailer and buy a tent. Most people called us crazy, "You're taking a step backwards aren't you?". Until we purchased the 12X20 Alaknak II. Of course with the money we made off of the trailer, we didn't stop with the tent. When we set up camp it looks as though Cabela's has set up a display area, we have all of the accessories and then some. We meet more people camping because of the tent, and are fairly confident that we'll be seeing more Alaknaks as the years go by- people love it and want to know where we got ours.
The tent is a snap to set up after you've done it once or twice, about 20 minutes with my wife and I setting it up. The vestibule adds a lot more room to the end of the tent and is invaluable for storing coolers, shoes, etc. The woodstove does a great job at heating the tent in a very short amount of time. I did have to modify the stove a bit to keep it from burning the wood too fast- just a matter of welding the seams to make it tighter.
If someone asked me to come up with a "con" regarding the tent, I'd say that I wish it had a way to set up dividers for privacy, but that's it. It's a great tent, well worth the money. I'd buy another without question!

THE BEST TENT EVER, July 29, 2009
By MCHUNTER41 from Baton Rouge, LA

"I bought the 12X20 Alaknak 5 years ago, and I have used it every year for hunting in the panhandle of Texas for both dove and deer. We usually stay out hunting 6-8 weeks at a time(the man that owns the lease calls us the gung-ho crew). The weather for dove hunting is extremly hot and for deer hunting it's extremely cold. I have literally been through every type of weather you can think of (with the exception of hail) from rain with a 40mph wind to 5degrees with a foot of snow and this tent has taken it in stride. During the summer it keeps you nice a cool, and during the winter the little 100 dollar heater keeps it perfectly warm, even a little hot at times. I have slept 8 people comfortably (all sleeping on Cabela's outfitter XL cots)with all our gear with plenty of room to put a card table inside when it was to nasty to hunt. The 3rd day aftering buying the tent we were out in the feild hunting dove 15 miles from camp it started raining, by the time we got back, there was water running through the camp an inch deep and I just knew all our gear would be soaked. We opened the tent and to our surprise nothing was wet. Not a single drop of water made it inside the tent. That's when I knew Cabela's was all about quality. I would recommend this tent to ANYONE who is serious about hunting or camping in any weather conditions. (also highly recommend the roof panel and floor liner)"
