Cabela's 3-12x40 riflescope with custom EXT reticle has the features you're looking for at an unbelievably low price. Our U.S.-engineered 4X optical system is fully multicoated for a bright, clear image even in low-light conditions. Extra-long eye relief, a large exit-pupil and fast-focus eyepiece allow for quick target acquisition. "I recently purchased two of these. The scopes are dead accurate and work great as do all other cabela's products. I put them on a 30-06 and a 22 hornet they work great and can stand up in cold weather.Buy this product you will be happy."

"I PURCHASED THIS SCOPE FOR A RUGER 77 RS IN 270 WIN. MOUNTED IT TOOK IT TO THE RANGE IT WAS ON PAPER BUT WHEN I ATTEMPED TO ADJUST THE IMPACT, NOTHING THEN AGAIN MOVING SEVERAL CLICKS,AGAIN NOTHING THEN AGAIN IT MOVED ALRIGHT A BUNCH THEN IT WOULDENT REPEAT IT WASENT THE LOAD (FACTORY THATS SHOT GREAT WITH ANOTHER SCOPE. CHECKED THE TORX NON THE SCREWS RIGHT ON AT 14 IN LBS.

"First things first my setup 700 Bdl 30,06.Winchester power max 150gr php.It seems this scope was a match made in heaven.The bdc is spot on at every point with this round.Busting hedge apples at 300 yards.Second deer this season 485 yards using bdc put 450 mark on her high droped in her tracks.Clear as a bell exellent in low light.THERE IS NOT ANOTHER SCOPE ON THE MARKET THAT CAN COMPETE WITH PRICE AND PERFORMANCE OFTHIS SCOPE.NUFF SAID"

"I ordered the Alpha Series because of the price and the reticle. After attaching my Bore site. I noticed that the R-L adjustment did not move to the left even though there was plenty of adjustment. This was the second Cabela's scope that had an adjustment problem. I could have happened in shipping but the way they are packaged, I would have some concerns about this scopes shock proof claims. Cabela's staff was very curtious in helping me return the scope."

"I purchased 2 of these at the same time, they hold there zero with the best of them, one of them is crystal clear and they other has a problem. The best I can put it is that eye position is so picky that 1/8 of an inch means the difference between almost clear and a haze. I think I would save my money and get a better quality scope."

Best BDC Scope for the money, August 28, 2009

"On Cabela's Alpha Series 3-12x scope, the EXT Reticle is referenced to 10x for rifles with .30-06-like performance. Other than this, the directions do not provide any MOA values so I set the scope up in a vise, viewed a point target at about 100 yards to eliminate parallax, and used the elevation turret to click off the distance between bullet drop compensation (BDC) marks. The ballistic drop for each BDC reference at 10x measured as follows; 200 yard-tic, 3”/1.5 MOA; 300, 11.3”/3.75; 400, 25”/6.25; and 500 yard, 46”/9.25 MOA. Increasing magnification above 10x reduces these values proportionally and reducing the power setting increases these values proportionally. Horizontal BDC crosshairs are 3 MOA wide at 10x except for the wider 300 yard reference which is 8 MOA. This equates to 24 inches wide, 12 inches either side of the crosshair at 300 yards on 10x. For my .308 with 130gr Barnes TTSX bullets, the ballistic match was right on at all ranges with the magnification set at 9x. I verified this with shots at 100 and 300 yards. Based on factory data, 9x was also a good power setting for.30-06 ammo with 150 gr boat-tails. My .270 Win with 150 gr Berger VLD bullets had a good ballistic match with the power set at 10.8x.

When I first got the scope I adjusted the eye piece to make the reticle as sharp as it could be but that made the image fussy at long range. When I adjusted the eye piece back to where the image was in focus, the the reticle was still clear enough to use.

Instead of using the allen screws to readjust the indexing of the turrets, I placed a sticky dot inside the caps and recorded my zero values.

I gave this scope a 5 star because it is a great capability for what you pay. There are other BDC scopes out there with better optical quality, but they cost more and don't shoot any better. This scope provides an affordable and effective BDC solution."

"picked the alpha up at the store last week mounted it on a new BLR 300 WSM had a nikon for it, just liked the new alpha thout I would trie it out. great clear optics the mill dot system is cool, I hunt antelope it has not shot loose at the range easy to set focus realy great scope for the price optics give me heart burn these days, I think this scope will equeal to a 300 to 400 dollar scope interductory price probly not last long"
