steel belted cooler,
September 16, 2009
By mccormick1020

"This cooler has excellent handles for carrying but the grips are loose and slide around. It has latch that closes the lid very well but inside the lid the insulation lining comes loose and pulls away when it is opened. All around it is a cooler that should provide many years of service."

Good but not geat,
September 9, 2009
By TMRmtns
from SW Colorado; 8,700 elevation
|
"It is a good cooler and protects the contents with its steel construction. However, it claims to keep ice frozen for up to five days. I filled it half full with frozen or chilled foods and then added ice to the top. We camped at 10,300 feet elevation with a day time high of 75 and a low at night of 35. It was in the tent the whole time in the shade. At the end of the second day, the ice was gone. I was disappointed."

Cool Cooler,
September 1, 2009
By CharlyN
from Sag Harbor New York
|
"Ordered & delivered timely &, simply online at Cabelas website. Cool cooler handles environmental or weather conditions, is made very well for durability and presents effectively if displayed say on decks or patios. Have best of worlds as have built open hatch trek bench seat encasement with drainage out plug to put cooler in when utilizing on deck at home,...also can be removed & used mobile for camping, boating & recreational activity. Excellent !!"

Leaky,

"The first time we used this new cooler, it leaked. We had to send it back for a replacement. If there was a better drain spout on there such as a screw type or metal stopper would be an improvement."

"This cooler stays colder far longer than plastic model Colemans. Very efficient with ice but only gave 4 stars because the pins in my hinges broke. I replaced with trimmed to fit galvanized finishing nails and haven't had any trouble since. Good cooler."

Cabela's Steel Belted Cooler,
August 18, 2009
By cocoapuff
from Athens, Tennessee

"I have been pleasantly satisfied with the Cabela's steel belted cooler I purchased recently. There are features I really have come to enjoy about it. The cooler gives me plenty of space for the many things I like to place in it. I use the lock feature because it helps keep the ice from melting as rapidly on the hot days. The handles are great because you can get a real good grip when moving it, without it sliding out of your hands when it is loaded down. The last feature that I think is important, that many of todays coolers don't have anymore, is the drain plug. This keeps you from having to empty the entire contains of the cooler to let excess water out. I also use this feature some for doubling as water for my camping dogs. If you purchase this item I hope you enjoy your's as much as I do."

No better than plastic,

"I am very disapointed with this product. I used this cooler side-by-side with a cheap plastic cooler for a week. The Cabela's cooler consumed exactly the same amount ice as the cheap plastic cooler did."

Great Cooler,

By NCalKid

"When you buy Cabela's Bargain Basement items, you can't beat the price. THis is a great little cooler that keeps thing cold for days. Though the rubber on the handles tends to twist, it really isnt needed. Great buy of the price, especially if you want a long-term cooler rather than a two-season plastic one."

Cabela's Steel Belted Cooler,
August 13, 2009
By biker61
from NH
|
"I am totally dissapointed with this cooler. I purchased it because it boasted that it kept cold for up to 5 days. I have used it twice on weekend outings and the ice melted quicker than a 20 yr. old plastic cooler I also used. After the first day food was already at room temperature. I used blocks of ice in the hopes the food would stay cold but it didn't help. It is extremely over priced and certainly did not meet our expectations. I would not recommend this cooler to anyone."

Nice cooler, great price and better than plastic,
August 2, 2009
By TIKTAALIK
from PRIMORDIAL SOUP
|
"This cooler keeps block ice frozen for 4 days easily in HOT weather. I can fit 6 frozen gallon jugs in the cooler. I am very happy with the coolers so far this summer in Charlotte.
I did do one modification with the handles. They have this rinky dink piece of rubber tubing over the metal handle. this thing is worthless since it slides back and forth on the handle while carrying the cooler.
So i removed it and cut some garden hose to fit over the handle instead. I wrapped two layers of garden hose tightly w/electrical tape, then i wrapped bike handle bar tape over the hose and it is totally cushy now and ergonomic too.
I'll never buy a plastic cooler again...like i will need one. These 2 steel coolers will outlast me."

DO NOT BUY THIS COOLER,
August 2, 2009
By bhoppy
from Kansas
|
"As seen in other reviews, this cooler has a problem with quality.
After one use, the plastic inner liner separated from the lid.
In addition to the lid problem, one of the screws that holds on the latch mechanism pulled out of the sheet metal causing the hole to deform.
I have returned this cooler and plan to purchase the steel belted Coleman cooler."
