Down right nasty,November 11, 2009
By BigPeck215from Albion, MI
"i dont know about performance in a Judge, but this ammo in 000 buck is down right nasty in a .410 shotgun, it far outperforms other .410 buckshot loads and most .410 slugs at ranges inside 20 yards"

Excellent for Personal Defense!,September 10, 2009
By GaryRVAfrom Chesapeake, VA
"I've shot both the 4-000 and the #4 shot with excellent results. However, when I first tried this ammunition in my Taurus Judge, the cylinder jammed. My first instinct was to blame the ammo because other brands worked fine. Upon further investigation it turned out to be the rough uneven surface of the Taurus frame at the breach. The "hotter" loads caused the back of the shell casing to "mold" to the rough, uneven surface and jam the cylinder. Once the gun was repaired. I have had no problems. I have also witnessed first hand the shoddy finish work on a Taurus 17 HMR model that was identical with mine. The 17 HMR was sent back to Taurus for repair, but they just sent it back to the owner and said that there was nothing wrong with it...so much for the famous Taurus "lifetime" warranty! If you have similar problems, I recommend that you find a competent gunsmith rather than blame the ammunition. Thanks Federal for excellent customer service!"

#4 SHOT IS PLAIN OLD BIRD SHOT...NOT #4 BUCK SHOT,August 16, 2009
By Gulfyfrom Mobile, Alabama
"There has been a lot of confusion on the web about this new Federal product, made for the Taurus Judge. Many people on the Web claim it is 4B in other words #4 Buck shot which would have 8-12 pellets. (In fairness Federal doesn't claim anything, but they are are silent). The package only says "4 shot". I just received mine from Cabela's and just opened a shell up. The pellets are brass and there are 60 in the 2.5 inch shell. In a Winchester .410 #4 shot I have (bird shot or maybe rabbit shot) there were 68 lead pellets. SO DON'T BE FOOLED INTO THINKING THIS IS 4B BUCK SHOT BECAUSE I HAVE DONE THE TEST.
As another writer mentioned, the shells fit poorly and this is not because the shells have ridges in the plastic. The brass itself is too large. They almost have to be forced in. I can't believe this was really made for the Judge.
I have ordered the 000 shells as I'll put up with the poor fit for the 1 extra pellet. I'll give a report when received."

wide pattern,August 1, 2009
By 1969YGBfrom Brooksville, Florida
"I shot the Federal #4 shot in my Judge and it was pathetic! The pattern at 10 feet is as big as a pool inner tube and like an inner tube ... mostly empty in the middle. Using shot for snakes or self defense is a close range deal, so I use 71/2 shot or smaller now and get respectable full patterns out to 15 feet or more. The Federal .410 empty shell hull can stick in your Judge too."

Product will Jam in your Judge,July 6, 2009
By JudgeOwnerfrom Gresham, NE
"I own a Judge that fires 3" magnum 410 shells. While shooting shells that have a smooth casing, it is fine. However, ANY shell that has a Ribbed or Grooved casing will Jam after you fire it because the casing expands and then you have to get a rod and tap the shells out. They go in ok and will fire, but getting them out is a headache. Look for shells that have a smooth plastic casing and not a ribbed/grooved casing. Hope that this helps. Wish I would have known this before buying a bunch of boxes of this grooved ammo."
