Great Jacket,
November 18, 2009
By LaCarp
|
"Just like other reviewers I love this jacket. It's still new & has the stiffness that I read about in other postings, but I'm also trusting that this will relax after a washing as also mentioned. I have long arms & it fits just fine. Overall it is totally windproof & warm."

Sherpa,

"I ended up returning this jacket. Several of the other reviewers ended up being right about the coat feeling more like an old carpet than a coat. I expected a fleece coat with a visible pile but instead got a very stiff fabric. This jacket appeared that it would be very warm and would do a good job at blocking the wind and moisture but wasn't what I was looking for."

Cabelas mountain sherpa jacket,
August 24, 2009
By rockymountainwanderer

"This is the second set of items I have ordered from Cabelas and each time they have come sooner than I had expected. The jacket fit very nicely although a little stiff, especially in the arms. Have washed it a few times and now the jacket is a little softer. I normally wear an XL with jackets to allow for some layering. I ordered a Large in the Sherpa jacket and was surpised to find that it fit perfectly and still allowed room for some layering. Had I ordered a XL I think the sleeves would have been too long. My only criticism is that I wish the sleeves had an elastic or velcro closure to allow for gloves. They are a bit tight. Have not had a chance to wear it yet since the weather has not turned cold but I can tell that the wind shear linning will keep the chill off and retain more body heat. I purchased a North Face Denali jacket last year (at twice the cost of the Sherpa jacket) and was dissipointed that the zipper stays came off after a few washings and that the jacket did not keep the cold out when the wind picked up. I look forward to using the jacket when I go photographing up in the Rocky Mountains this fall. Thanks again Cabelas for a quality product at an affordable price!"

AWESOME Jacket!,

By Hammerspur

"Very warm and windproof, sleeves seem extra long but work great at keeping out drafts when out in blustery cold weather. Cut for easy movement no restrictive sensations at all and not bulky. Rugged good looks, I received several positive comments on it the first time I wore it. Well constructed and should give me many seasons of service. Lets you laugh at an icy wind."

"This is one of the warmest jackets I've owned. Really protects you from the wind. It's a little more wooly looking than I expected, thought it would be more of a fleece type. But, overall it is a very good jacket."

I love Windshear,

"This product was purchased as a Christmas Gift. It had a nice style and is the second Cabelas Windshear coat I have purchased. I have grown to rely on the windshear system for preformance and the ability to have comfort without bulk. This is a well made jacket and expect to have many years of use."

Performs As Stated,
December 7, 2008
By SteveNorthOH
from Northern OH resident. Hunt and fish year-round.

"I've searched the last couple of years for a fleece that's truly windproof and waterproof without having to spend a fortune. The half-dozen "standard" fleeces I own serve to insulate among layers but fall way short when things get nasty. Sherpa jacket gets it done even as outer layer when outside for hours in cold and snow, and works well under a hunting vest. I've pheasant hunted in 20-degrees all morning and been toasty with just a t-shirt and flannel underneath. 2 sons like there's too. Stiff at first, and then gets broken in."

as warm as a yak,
November 20, 2008
By leadbelly
|
"this is an extremely warm, wind-proof fleece jacket. i purchased it before last winter and wore it a lot, including some very frigid winter hiking. it is back for another winter, one of my favorites for cold weather.
the plus:
-very thick fleece - substantially more robust than regular 300 fleece -windproof except for minor leaks through the front zipper -well-made. all the hardware, zipper loops, and stitching is intact. -relatively roomy pockets with zippers -elastic at the bottom hem -roomy enough for a sweater underneath -for the price, it's a tremendous value
things to consider:
-fabric feels stiff at first, but softens with wear -wrists are not elastic and feel tight at first, also loosen somewhat with wear. elastic wrists would be an improvement -windproof means moisture stays in during high-exertion activities. i tend to put it on after winter hikes -takes up a lot of space in a backpack"
