Excellent Radio,October 28, 2009
By OutDoorsGuy71from Mount Laurel, NJ
"This 2-Way radio meets and exceeds my expectations. During my outings I was able to get between 2 to 7 miles with perfect clarity. I haven't pushed the outer limits of the radio yet, but this range will mostly be the conditions and distance I will be using them for -- ( Flat dense forest, on water, rolling fields ). I doubt 36 miles could be achieved with any radio on the market today without using repeaters.
The radios are built solid, the camo looks good and the weight might be considered heavier than other models. The size is good, but don't expect to slip this in your shirt pocket. Belt clip works well, but lacks the swivel feature. It feels more like a professional piece of equipment rather than a toy.
These radios work great where I play!"

Good Bang For the Buck,October 20, 2009
By Mnvikefrom Texas
"I bought these radios a week before going camping in northeastern MN. They are decent radios at a decent price. I have some motorolas, that even though they were more expensive, were not as good as the midlands. The 1050's come with car charger and regular 120v adapter. They can also take regular AA batteries. One thing that I found out when researching the GMRS license, is that they were not allowed close to the Canadian border. You can still use the low power channels though."

You don't get what you pay for...,October 5, 2009
By BullHntrfrom Colorado
"There is no way that these radios reach up to 36 miles. I bought these radios for use in the mountains and was hoping for range up to 10 miles. I have tried them out here in town and I cannot even get a mile away without them dropping signal. I have called the FCC to get the license and that cost another $85 dollars for a 5 year license. It sure would have been nice to know this information before buying this product. Don't waste your money on this product."

Horrible Radio,September 25, 2009
By CurtisUtahfrom St. George, Ut
"I bought these becausemidland makes such a great marine and C.B. radio. I used them hunting and one never did turn on. The other was so quiet that those in my hunting party couldnt ever hear me. The head sets were horrible and made it even quieter when I tried to talk with them. These couldnt even reach a mile when my paryt was up on a hill and I was across the draw without anything impeding the signal. I guess I will stick with Motorola. I have some that still work good after 10 years."

Great radio,September 21, 2009
By TucElkfrom Washington State
"Just returned from a Wildnerness hunt and the radios performed very well. Used primarily under high power only and the radios worked well in deep timber. The effective range while in deep timber/canyon terrain is more like 2 miles versus advertised. The weather stations came in handy as the weather updates helped us plan our daily hunts based on the wind direction."

Exactly What I Was Wanting,September 11, 2009
By Cricket0922from Mineral Wells, WV
"These are the nicest radios I have ever used. They are packed with options and I love the fact that they are waterproof. Range is really good on them also. I have an FCC license to operate on the GMRS channels and on the high power channels I was easily able to communicate with my family at our house while I was at the store about 5 miles away. I was amazed. Given West Virginia's terrain I doubt I will ever get close to the 36 mile range out of them, but they should be all I will ever need to stay connected while I am hunting or while my family is out camping or hiking. I highly recommend these radios to anybody who needs a quality radio at a really great price, but they are really only going to be worth the money if you are willing to obtain the FCC license to operate on GMRS as the FRS stations have a VERY limited (about a half mile maybe 1 mile if it is really clear)range no matter how expensive or cheap the radio you are looking at is."

• Midland GTX 1050 VP4 Radio Pack,September 11, 2009
By zoolanderfrom Monroe, WA
"Handsets are bigger than they need to be. I would have liked them a bit smaller. There are good quality handhelds out there that are easier to carry. The wildlife calls built in are a bit cheezy. Not good quality sounds at all. Otherwise it's an OK setup. Camo is nice and range is medium. I was in flat country without obstruction and had problems with reception just 2 miles away and I was on a GMRS frequency, so I doubt the advertised 30 something miles. It works for my usage though. If I were buying this product because I needed all that was advertised, I would be highly disappointed and return it."

Did Not Work!,September 4, 2009
By TaraTrailfrom Austin, TX
"I bought this radio because of the good review on previous models. This is the new top of the line radio. The only thing top of the line is the price! The first pair I bought did not work. I returned them for a new pair. The battery did not work on one of the two. I could use it once I put AA batteries in it. Conversations were not clear even at short distances. Poor quality!"

great product,July 31, 2009
By thunderchickendownfrom Ellisville, Ms.
"i own several other sets of 2 way radios. i must say these are the best. the animal call tones are great. don't think that any hand held gmrs/fmrs will actually work for 36 miles unless you are in a flat open area. the gtx 1050 did exceed my expectations. they will work 3-5 miles in heavly wooded areas and maybe more depending on terian. the battery life seems to be really good and i like the fact that you can just drop in some AA batteries and keep on going. the functions are very easy to understand. i also like the automatic weather alert and the 10 weather channels. these units work better than a pair of more expensive radios i own. they put out 5 watts on all the gmrs channels. best ones i have ever owned."
