"The rod was pretty nice, but it was a little too fast for what I was wanting in a medium light walleye rod. The reel belongs on a medium heavy rod instead of a medium light rod (which I switched it to later). Reel was WAY too big for the rod. The reel made slight grinding noise starting on my first cast, not expecting it to last more than a couple years with average use."

"This is a great value. The reel is smooth retrieving and and has an excellent drag. This combo allows you to cast long and accurate. The first time I used it, I hooked and landed 10

"I gave my old spinning setup to my grandson and needed to replace. This combo is very smooth to cast and is well worth the price. It priced about 20 dollars less than the competition. The biggest problem is that my grandson prefers this rig to the one that I gave him."

"before i bought the 2500 i had the se1000 and for it being a smaller reel it could handle that 5lb bass. i fell in love with that reel and once i saw this combo i knew i had to get it but bigger. i have the se2500 now and it is amazing. with a small flick of the wrist i can cast a country mile. this reel is so smooth and has exceptional bearings. the drag works great when reeling in hard hitting fish using top water. you can not go wrong buying this reel. the pole is great itself too. stiff but flexible rod tip for great hook sets, great guides and the most comfortable handle out there. this combo is well balanced and very comfortable. it would be a slap in the face not to buy it while it is on sale like it is now. such a great bargain for possibly the BEST combo for the money. great job shimano and cabelas. i will definitely buy again real soon"

"I bought this mostly for the rod. I knew the 4000 would be way too much reel for a med-light action set up. I put the reel on one of my older, heavier catfish rods, and added a Flueger supreme 8030 to the IM7.
I used this twice so far for smallmouth fishing on the Susquehanna River, and it's perfect for chucking lighter crankbaits around."

Excellent Rod & Reel For The Price,

"I purchased the SE1000 and was very pleased when it arrived. First time out with it I didn't catch any fish so decided to hold off the review until I experienced it in action. Second time out I caught five sand bass from shore. Landed four of them but lost a larger one because the knot at the lure didn't hold (my fault). Overall I'm very satisfied with this combo. It's well balanced, gets some pretty good casting distance. Very smooth retrieve. Reel seems well made. Haven't caught anything large enough to test the drag yet. Hook setting ability is superb. Like others have already mentioned on some casts it was a bit hard to trip the bail to start the retrieve but no big deal. The SE1000 was a tad smaller than I thought it would be, a bit smaller than my old Mitchell 300 but it's perfect for sand bass and crappie. I'm so happy with the quality that I think I'm going to order another one, the larger SE2500 for those lunker largemouth bass (can never have too many rods and reels, especially at this price.) So yep, I highly recommend this combo. Very good quality for the price."

"You can not beat the price of this combo! Basically you are getting the pole for free. This Shimano reel is so smooth and allows for long casts and quick hook sets. I thought the medium light action would be to much for a trout pole, but I was wrong. The sensitivity of this pole plus the action allowed for quick hook sets both with lures and bait plus the ability to feel even the lights nibble."

"I bought this yesterday and went out with it today. Caught a beautiful rainbow trout within an hour. The sensitivity was amazing, I knew as soon as he took a nibble. The line twists a little but I am pretty sure that is user error. The reel is very smooth and gave me a solid hook set-absolutely no backspin on the reel. Highly reccomended."
