Nikon's new Monarch X series is the next generation in binoculars. They incorporate Nikon's advanced dielectric
high-reflective multilayer prism coating, a feature reserved in the past for their exclusive EDG binoculars. This
advanced
technology results in improved light-gathering qualities for brighter, crisper viewing during low-light conditions. A
new rigid, ergonomic design provides exceptional balance and light weight. Both models weigh in at less than 26 oz. A
larger focus knob provides fast subject acquisition. Rubber-armored coating makes for a nonslip grip, wet or dry.
Thumb-positioning memory contours allow maximum traction with the soft-grip tactile surface.
Flip-down objective covers keep lenses from getting scratched. Nitrogen-filled with O-ring seals that ensure a
waterproof and fogproof view.

Great Product with Minor Improvements,November 20, 2009
By Anonymousfrom St. Petersburg, FL
"The clarity of the glass is excellent. The overall feel and function of the product is comparable to much more expensive binoculars. I took them on a recent hunt to Newfoundland and they performed well. My only complaint is the lens caps. Both of the attached caps were lost on the trip. They fell off in light brush. They don't fit the binocular body particularly well and the attachment should be much more robust. On the positive side, I contacted Nikon and they sent me replacements. The top cap also doesn't fit very well. Rather than lose it, I secured it with some 550 cord.
Overall, this is a great product and value. It could be even better with a couple minor adjustments."

Good optics, Poorly engineered,November 4, 2009
By huntfishflyfrom Prescott, AZ
"Recently bought these for a North Kaibab - Arizona deer hunt. Was concerned about the front cap not unscrewing for a tripod mount. The Cabela's salesperson was very helpful with obtaining the Nikon customer service phone number out of the box. I called from the store and inquired if there was a standard 1/4'' tripod mount under the cap. The customer service rep confirmed the exact model I was looking at and then confirmed the cap would come off and there was a mounting hole underneath. After getting them home, I finally put a pair of pliers to the cap, no mount underneath and now some cosmetic damage. Not Cabela's fault but very frustrating. Live 100 miles from store and leaving for hunt next morning.
The attached lens caps on the end of the bino's are poorly fastened. Designed to detach but they come off too easy. They fell off a couple of times during the hunt. Found them all but once, now one left. The top caps are designed to attach to a neck strap. If the strap is too wide, such as the harness sold by Cabela's, you have to use the 'split side' to attach them. They do not stay on the lenses and when the clips on the harness slide up and down when raising and lowering the bino's, the caps fall off from the strap. Got tired of picking those up off the ground (if they hadn't already just flopped off while walking).
The optics are every bit as good as expected from a set of glass priced in this range, maybe a bit better. Good light gathering and clarity. A little difficult to coordinate the focus of the right eye with the center focusing knob, but not bad.
Overall, just not worth it for the application I purchased them for."

NICE GLASS,October 26, 2009
By GCAN
"I bought these and can really tell a difference from the standard monarchs, epecially in lower light conditions. The 10.5 power is definitely more shaky to hold than the 10 power. But I don't think its a deal breaker."

Nikon Monarch "X" 10.5x45, changes the GAME!,September 22, 2009
By rezavoirdogfrom Lame Deer, MT
"I originally bought the Leupold Mojave 10x42 Binoculars based on reviews and the awards it had won from Cabela's and Field and Stream... I then did extensive research on mid-priced Binoculars and even went to local outdoor shops to compare. WOW! I immediately exchanged my Leupold Gold Ring 15-30x50 Spotting scope, tripod, window mount, and my 20-day old Leupold 10x42 Mojaves for these! I believe these could be worth twice for what they're being sold for!"
"I bought the Monarch X binoculars because at the time, I couldn't afford the high-end EDG, I had heard great reviews about them, they fit my hunting style well, and Nikon makes great products.
Brightness: Very good. Gathered way more light than my naked eye. Could see things very clearly even after legal shooting light (30 mins after sunset for us).
Clarity and Sharpness: Excellent! As good as my Swarovski spotting scope.
Durability: Very durable, the rubber armor cutting noise down to a barely audible, dull thunk. The only complaint I have here is the removable lens caps don't stay on. I lost both mine while belly crawling up on antelope in South Dakota.
Field of View and Magnification: Wide enough for Western bowhunts, high enough magnification to make out details at longer ranges.
Overall, an excellent product, worth probably almost double the asking price. I would (and have done so) recommend them to anyone who enjoys the outdoors."

Wow!,July 10, 2009
By Jasu2
"These are excellent. I handed the 'X" to a friend using $900 binocs at the race track. His comment, "Wow! It's like opening a window." I've since compared them with $1400 binocs and several in the $700 dollar range...I get similar responses. I now own two pair of the 8.5's in order to loan one to any unfortunate with any binocs, regardless of price. Have to mention one problem...the diopter ring (right eye adjustment) seems to be cemented in place. Use anything (pliers wrapped in tissue, etc.) that won't harm the binocs to loosen a bit. Once loosened it's OK."

Great Binoculars,April 24, 2009
By GarrettAfrom Aiken, SC.
"I got the 10.5x binoculars before I went to a World indoor archery championship in Poland in March. The binoculars are light enough to wear while shooting and make spotting your arrows much easier. The new design makes it easier to hold and focus with one hand. I also tested the binoculars in low light conditions, and could not believe how clear and bright the image appeared. The price is a bit expensive, but they are very nice and worth it if you have the extra money."
