"I have owned one of these for approximately 10 years. I use magnum rifle primer under a compressed load (fill the case, vibrate for several seconds, then top off again) of either FFg black powder or Pyrodex, a 45 cal wonder wad, then a 325 grain cast lead bullet. This load gives consistant 3 inch or less 3-shot groups at 100 yards, no cleaning between shots. I have killed my last 6 whitetail bucks with this load, all one-shot kills between 45-85 yds; no follow-up shot necessary! I found that my gun will not shoot modern jacketed bullets well at all- 1 foot plus groups at 50 yds at best, believe its due to the type of rifling-it just won't spin copper-jacketed bullets. I limit myself to 100 yd shots as I have found the grp starts to really open up further out, also believe the ballistics for killing get a little weak further out. This gun is fun to shoot at the range as its weight makes for little felt recoil with a good hunting coat on, and of course the smoke always gathers a crowd! I should mention I mounted a 2.5X scope on my gun as my eyes are poor and I like clean kills! Given what I have recently seen on other web sites, Cabela's current price is excellent!"
