"I bought one of these to try out and was very pleased with the quality. I have over 500 rounds of new 5.56 and .223 in their original boxes. This ammunition box is perfect for storage. I wouldn't recommend it if you want something to securely lock up your ammo. The side walls can be easily pulled away from the lid to reach the ammo."

Imprudent Locking System,October 25, 2009

"Received this box with a bulk order hoping to use it to secure and store my ammo as well. Yes, it has a place to put a lock, but that doesn't keep you from opening it and easily taking a box of ammo out. Even with a small pad lock that restrains the lid to a small degree, the plastic lid can be flexed open easily once unlatched and allow removal of the contents of an average sized ammo box from the opposite side of where the lock catch is. Another catch for a lock on the other side of the latch would have alleviated this problem. The locking feature is really useless, misleading, and unpleasently thought out. I take back the useless comment; if you attach a lock it may deter someone from attempting to open it by the mere sight of the lock on it.
On the bright side if you do not need to lock your contents it does suprising well when topped full of ammo for a cheap plastic ammo box."

"Love these plastic boxes. They even have a sealing gasket in the lids. The little storage area on the outside in the lid comes in handy for keys, cleaning kits, pocket knife all kinds of things. I have 4 will add to them as I find new needs for them.
Have seen others like these but they did not have the gasket or the storage areas."

"I have several of these boxes and am quite pleased with them overall.
My only concern is that the plastic tops bow quite a bit when the box is full of ammo and it's carried by the handle. I wonder how they will hold up long-term because of that.
Otherwise, it's a good product with an excellent price. I've recommended them to my friends and relative."

"Over the years I have purchased Dry Boxes to store my ammo. I received a number of Cabela's Dry Boxes listed here as a "bonus" for buying certain bulk ammo. I found these boxes would hold about 55 lbs. of ammo (.22 LR) without bulging. The handle is very sturdy and the latch that keeps the lid attached to the body is reliable, but I do secure the lid with a small lock. I have confidence in the lid's rubber seal to keep out moisture and have not had any problems so far. For the money and versatility, this storage container is what I will continue to use to perserve and protect my ammo!"

"They now have a little storage compartment on the lid so they are no longer stackable like the previous model. They also don't seal like the previous model, the side just pushes in with no effort so it is not sealed like the previous model. The new model is overall just not made as good as the ones i brought in March of this year. I WILL NOT BUY ANY MORE!!!"

"These are great boxes. You can spend a lot more money and get a better box, but for the money these are great. I live in Miami where we have a lot of humidity and these boxes protect your ammo against the humidity. I've had some ammo that I bought in bulk in wooden crates that the rounds started turning green from the weather if not stored in air conditioned storage. I've bought several of these boxes and would recommend them to anyone looking for a storage box priced right."

"Overall, this is a good box. It has an o-ring seal and is lockable. When the box is filled more than half full with ammo, the bottom starts to bow from the weight when lifted. I put 1500 rounds of 9mm and was worried it would break."

"I was not impressed with this storage box. With the ammo box filled with ammo, the top bowed when it was was picked up by the handle on the top.
For the price it was very disappointing! Whatever this box is - it's not a ammo box. It's not a good ammo box at any price with the way it is constructed.
I've purchased a lot of great products from Cabela's - but this is not one of them... I should ask for a refund, but haven't up to this point."

"The box I received today is much larger than the size quoted on the web site. The site says the box is 12-3/4"L x 6-3/8"W x 8-5/8"H but in fact it measures approx 16"x8"x10". A pity because I ordered based on the dimensions quoted and the box delivered to me will not fit the intended space. Postage cost from Australia means it is not worth returning the box for credit.
Also wonder if the seal will "lock out moisture". It does not appear to be in contact with the top lip for the full length of the perimeter.
Disappointed!"

"Recently bought several of these boxes for use storing reloads as well as commercial ammo. The boxes are a good buy but they are not as tough as the mil spec. ammo boxes made of metal. They are however more than adequate for the use intended. One does have to be careful not to over-load the box as this does tend to expand the sides of these boxes and might make for less of a proper top seal. Seal is important to me as a place a desiccant cartridge in each container to remove any excessive moisture present. Product is good and I would recommend it to others."

Poorly constructed NEW ammo box,April 1, 2009

"Having had both boxes, the older style from December 2008 and now having received this NEW one (March 2009) with more room, I have to say the newer one is INFERIOR.
Yes, it is larger (somewhat taller). It also is a thinner plastic that easily gaps and spreads and is NOT waterproof due to this issue.
The lid pulls up easily at both the hinge area and the sides. I realize Cabela's GIVES this with some ammo orders (appreciated), but I WOULD NOT BUY IT.
Cabela's, PLEASE do not CHEAP your customers-bring back the older style ammo box. While slightly smaller, it is much more substantial.
I believe another review from December reflects the dissatisfaction with the NEW style and sent them back for the original version.
Having used both boxes I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this NEWER style."

"the only down fall is that they are so big and made out of plastic. i filled it up with ammo and it is pretty heavy...weights around 60 pounds when full of my ammo other wise i have bought more of them since then.."
