Convenience and rugged reliability are what you get with this pontoon boat. Forget about time wasted blowing up pontoons. These 6-ft. hard pontoons never need to be inflated and are nearly punctureproof. The entire assembled unit easily fits between the wheel wells of a short-bed pickup with the tailgate up. Frame is TIG-welded of lightweight, but strong aircraft-aluminum alloy. Adjustable footrests can be rotated 90° for use as a kick boat. Four molded-in rectangular storage bins. Convenient cup holders. Padded folding seat. Molded-in oar rests and asymmetric cloverleaf rod and net holder. Fly-fishing apron with ruler. Large aluminum cargo deck. Includes 6-ft. breakdown oars.

Happier than expected!, September 19, 2009
By texaskickboater from DFW Texas, die hard bass angler

"After reading the reviews of this kickboat and many like it, I was not sure what to expect. I had decided I wanted an aluminum frame vs. steel and liked the idea of hard sided pontoons vs. inflatables. The Hobie version was twice as expensive, wasn't flat on top and has been discontinued so it's impossible to find.

What I received was well beyond my expectations. After reading several kayak forums I've decided to mount a fishfinder by installing the transducer inside the pontoon on my Tahoe Fisher. I'll use a Ram Mount designed for tubes (frame type tube) and have it mounted off the side right below the arm rests. Like the kayakers, I've already mounted a milk crate on the back deck and have found that Plano 3700's fit in it perfectly. I think it holds 6 of them which is a LOT of tackle.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the sturdiness of the frame and it's of a stronger diameter than I expected. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. After having a few tubes lose air pressure due to punctures, seams coming loose or having a total loss of the outter skin due to a seam failure, I love the idea of a hard sided pontoon. Now I can throw crankbaits to my hearts content!

On the water use proved to be easier than I expected. The boat moves quickly with the oars but just as fast with kick fins. The water level is just about 2-3 inches below my knee so it doesn't sit so high as to catch alot of wind or be hard to manuever.

    I'm impressed!!

So close, but no cigar, July 15, 2009
    By twodogs1 from Northeast Ohio

"Problems: Oarlocks fixed, must take off with cotter pin to transport. Storage space cap leaks (takes on water during rain) plus you can only fit small objects that can get wet into hold, which has no barriers so that objects can and will move out of reach plus water will not drain because hole is flush with top of unit. Difficult to tie down because it lacks D-rings etc. No back cargo deck supplied. Most of these things could be fixed with changes to the mold and should be at the price!
Now the really good things: light/small, fits tall people who weigh 270 lbs., knock down/setup really easy;very easy to turn and position on the water with swim fins only. I started out with a 3 rating and went to 4 because the boat was purchased for my buddy after his back operation (I had to test it to make sure it was safe) and he gives it a 4 rating.

"Positives = easy to ride on and easy to set up.
Negatives = must tighten oar rings down good b/c left one lossened and then aluminum easily bent. Also nice not to have to inflate but you need a truck bed or small trailer to transport - in my suburban was still pretty tight.

    A FEW IMPROVEMENTS, June 16, 2009
By INGOLDHILL from GOLD HILL, OREGON

"OVERALL, THIS IS A GOOD FISHING VESSEL. I LIKE THE IDEA OF NO PUNCTURE, POSITIVE FLOATATION. THE OARS ARE OF GOOD QUALITY, AS IS THE PADDED SEAT.
THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT COULD BE BETTER, THOUGH. ASSEMBLY WAS EASY----TOO EASY. IT ALL PINS TOGETHER, NOT BOLTS, SO EVERYTHING FITS REAL LOOSE.
SEEMS TOO FLIMSY WHEN YOU PICK IT UP. I ADDED A PIECE OF HALF INCH PIPE TO CONNECT THE FOOT RESTS, AND THAT HELPED A BIT, BUT THE SLIP IN CONNECTIONS DON'T NEED TO BE SO SLOPPY. THE POLE HOLDERS ARE A JOKE----SO I ADDED MY OWN. THE DRY STORAGE IS USELESS FOR ANYTHING OVER 4'' ROUND, AND WHAT YOU DO PUT IN THERE, IS QUICKLY LOST TO ONE END OR THE OTHER OF THE PONTOON. NOTHING TO KEEP IT FROM SLIDING OUT OF REACH.
THEN, THERE'S THE WAY THE PONTOONS ATTACH TO FRAME. FOUR THIN STRAPS THAT PULL TIGHT----BUT NOT TIGHT ENOUGH. I ADDED STRAPS THAT RATCHET TIGHT, AND 2'' WIDE.
BUT I USE IT DAILY AND LIKE THE WAY IT RIDES HIGH OUT OF THE WATER, AND ROWS EASILY. ADD A BASKET BEHIND THE SEAT WHERE YOU CAN TOSS EVERYTHING, AND IT STAYS DRY. I WOULDN'T WANT TO PAY ANY MORE FOR IT THOUGH. BUT IT SHOULD LAST ME THE REST OF MY FISHING DAYS----THAT COUNTS FOR A LOT!

Well worth it, May 26, 2009
    By TieDyeJedi

"I did a ton of research before buying a pontoon. I decided to order this one after reading the reviews and comparing prices. It was on back-order, so I had to wait an extra 6 weeks, but when it finally came in, I picked it up and assembled it that night. It was very easy to assemble. Took about an hour. This being night time, I didn't want to take it out just yet, so that got me staring at it and wondering how to add a trolling motor. I have a motor that we use for our canoe and I dug around the shed and found an old milk crate, a 2x12 piece of treated lumber and some rope. I cut the 2x12 to fit the milk crate (the motor attaches to it), then laced the milk crate to the rear of the pontoon by stringing the rope through the bottom of the crate and around the frame. After I was done, I questioned my idea, but there was only one way to find out if it worked. So, the next morning I dragged the pontoon, motor and all, down our hill to the river. Got in the river and off I went. It worked! A little loose in my lacing job, but it truly worked. I fished for a couple of hours. I tried the oars out and quickly decided it was easier with the motor, but will always take them with me because you never do know. Besides, the oars stayed out of my way. I got back to shore and tightened up the rope and went back out the next morning.

It may not look all that great with my old crate tied to the back, but I don't think the fish really care. I used to use a kayak to fish out of, but those days are over. I feel a lot more secure in this pontoon. It is very stable and there is a lot of working space all around you. The only thing it needs is an eyelet to tie something to in the pontoon itself. I like having the extra "dry" storage, but it's almost useless when your items are either way in the front or way in the back. I'm thinking some superglue and a couple of plastic cleats will solve this problem.

The Tahoe Fisher Pontoon Boat, March 24, 2009
    By ArmyRGR from Selma, NC

"It.s still early in the season, but my first time on the water with the Tahoe Fisher went well. I recommend planning a "shakedown" cruise before fishing. Make final adjustment for trim and positioning of the oars for efficient use. I bought this product for fishing in swamps, ponds and the margins of larger bodies of water.

It assembles quickly and easy without tools. The pontoons are not going to be punctured or leak air as is possible with some of the inflatable models. It is remarkably comfortable for fishing and a breeze to launch and recover.

The only problem I found was loading it into my shortbed truck. it fits between the wheel wells as advertised but you must turn it up on it's side to slide it into the truck bed. However, it is light enough so as not to be a major problem.

    I highly recommend it.

Light Weight, Great Price, On the water quickly!!!, March 23, 2009
By JustHavinFunFishing from JustHavinFunFishing, Logan Utah

""The Tahoe Fisher Pontoon Boat made by Venture Outdoors is by far the best single person pontoon boat I have ever fished on so far, and how do you beat the price and all the included benefits.

I am retired and live five to ten minutes from several bodies of water and am able to fish three to four times a week.
I currently own a float tube, a 10' Bass Pontoon Boat with 36 lb thrust trolling motor for taking the grand kids and a 7' inflatable pontoon, and previously owned a 9' inflatable pontoon boat.
I agree with all of the things mentioned in the previous reviews and rather than repeating please read there reviews also.
Last week the Ice cleared off and we had open water so I took the Tahoe Fisher out for the first time.

The first thing I noticed was the amount of time it took me to get ready to go, (not having to pump up the bladders, adjust the straps) and then being able to load it by myself into the bed of my Avalanche truck (being only 50" wide, 5" to 7" narrower then my other boats) instead of strapping it on top like my inflatable in the past.

Once at water’s edge strapping on my float tube fins and heading out to the center of the dam. I noticed how little effort it was to paddle because the frame and seat being attached to the top of the pontoons there was no drag, reminded me of gliding through water in a canoe.

Also I did not get my butt wet like my other boats with the seat being located mid level of pontoons. It is always nice to stay warmer and spend more time on the water fishing.

Another nice thing is the molded in oar rest to keep your oar ends from falling and sliding into the water all the time. Also the other molded it compartments for putting gear and whatever else into.

Overall this is by far the best pontoon boat I’ve used, great value and ease of use, durable and functional.

    Tahoe fishing, March 17, 2009
    By qualey99 from Shreveport, Louisiana

"I tried my new Tahoe Fisher out for the first time last weekend. The unit was very well made, and assembly was very simple. I weigh 250 lbs, and when I first got in the unit, I felt like I was sliding out of the chair, but after the initial settling in period, I managed to fly fish for 3 hours without any problems. The unit was very stable and easy to maneuver with fins or with oars. I did not have the oars adjusted just right, and needed to make that adjustment after I got home. Very good product, and I would recommend it for anyone who fishes still water."

great pontoon boat, March 11, 2009
    By magnus99 from Spokane, WA

"I am very happy with this boat. It is comfortable, rides well, is light enough to lift into and out of a truck bed, and has room for plenty of gear because of the access ports into the interior of the pontoons (try doing that on your inflatable).

While my Bucks Bag Bronco has given me 10 years of very nice service, and I have no complaints about it all (not to mention their great customer service), this Tahoe Fisher will be replacing it as the boat I use on my home waters. I can get in the water even faster now because I won't need to mess with an air pump. The Tahoe is also narrow enough to shove into the back of my Dakota truck bed, whereas I have to throw my other pontoon boat up on top (and that has become a chore with my advancing age). Alas, I have the crew cab Dakota, so my bed is only 5 ft deep. That means I can't close the tailgate, but if you have a small bed like mine, and can't prop it up on the tailgate because of a canopy, one of those bed extenders should do the trick.

In short, a very nice product here. I agree with the previous reviewer that the ruler should be printed on the front edge of the skirt, not back edge. No biggy though. I rarely lift a fish out of the water anyway.

Best kickboat ever, January 8, 2009
By Hownowbrowntrout from Lake Stevens, WA

"As the present owner of 7 kick boats, as well as about 14 over time, I can easily express my opinion that the Tahoe Fisher is the all around best personal watercraft I have seen at any price. It quickly became, and will remain, my “daily driver” for stillwater flyfishing. The reasons for this are many.

I came to quickly appreciate the Fishers HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pontoons. This is certainly not the first marketed non-inflatable personal pontoon boat (but it is the best). Why non-inflatable pontoons? First of all, let’s be honest, how many of us really deflate our pontoons on a regular basis? There is a good reason that we often see them transported fully inflated in pickup beds or strapped to the roof of vehicles. It’s simply a pain to deflate/inflate them on a regular basis and, speaking for myself, when I pull up alongside a lake where the fish are rising like mad, I want to get on the water—now! Also, although I’ve been pretty lucky considering the amount of time I spend on the water (yet still not enough), the memory of bumping up against a beaver dam in which the little fellow incorporated a nail-laden 2X4, quickly deflating a pontoon and leaving me in dire straights, will always be with me. And although it’s designed to fit between the wheel wells of a short-bed pickup, it easily comes apart into 3 sections for other modes of stowage.

Whereas other manufacturers in the past have missed the boat (har) on this detail, the Fisher incorporates access to the interior of the pontoons for safe, out of the way storage of spare clothing, tackle, and the like. Although I’d like to see larger access ports, they are sufficient to get much of your gear stowed out of the way, safe, and dry. The shape of the pontoons is fantastic. I am pleasantly surprised by both the fore-aft and side-to-side stability of this craft. And it tracks better when rowing than any pontoon boat I’ve tried, even though the pontoons are 2 feet shorter than the typical 8 foot pontoon boat. It’s difficult to convey the luxury of the flat, relatively wide pontoon tops but I quickly came to appreciate them. They function as 2 large tabletops and when one sets down a net, tackle box, beer—what have you—it stays put. Also, the design of the pontoons allows for exceedingly easy sonar mounting, if one is so inclined. Also built in are nice features like proper cupholders and the universal cloverleaf doodad holder. I popped in a few short lengths of slotted (to accommodate a fly reel) PVC pipe and have no-fuss, out of the way but quickly at hand, storage for my spare rod/reel combos.

All components—frame, straps, buckles, etc—are of high quality. It’s really remarkable for the price, actually. The design of the stripping apron is superior with ample width and high, firm sides, although the ruler markings would be much more ergonomic at the front edge, rather than butted up against ones belly. The seat is comfortable, well-designed, and sits at a perfect height above the water. If you decide to buy this craft—and obviously I think you should—seriously consider the addition of the optional rear battery box/motor mount attachment. Again, the fact that one can carry a full sized marine battery in the rear deck and still have a flat surface for additional storage is brilliant. And it’s actually quite fun to motor around on larger stillwaters in this manner. I prefer to just keep the motor fixed in place for rearward travel and steer with my fins. And when not needed, the rear deck quickly detaches or doubles as the perfect place to stow a cooler or dry bag.

In summary, great boat, great design, great price. Give it a try.
