Cloudveil Hellroaring Jacket, September 18, 2009
    By snowcat87 from New Mexico

"I've been using a windproof fleece for years to keep warm while fishing in the winter - wading jacket is too hot when it's 35 degrees and sunny with the wind whipping down the San Juan. Only drawback was that I would have to put on my wading jacket if there was even a slight drizzle to keep the fleece dry. So I thought I would give this a try.

Jacket is a little thin for really cold weather. I would need a thin fleece under it to stay as warm as the windproof fleece - kind of a bummer. But it DOES shed water well, the pockets are ideally placed for fly fishing, and the pocket on the back is perfect for storing a lot of stuff that I would normally carry in a chest pack, drybag, or hip pack. Works out perfect for small stream fishing in drizzly weather.

On the plus side for it being thinner than the fleece is that with less bulk and the smooth softshell material, the wading jacket slides over it very nicely (in case it's really pouring).

If it had a hood I could almost do without a wading jacket, but as is it looks good enough to wear out for beers after your done fishing.
