Good blind but has some design issues,June 19, 2009

"Let me start by saying the concept of this blind is fantastic. I got this blind before the Ohio deer gun season in November 2008. I looked for a compact blind that would allow some movement inside, some storage space for gear, yet, not be too large to lug in & out of the woods. This fit the bill perfectly. Its the perfect size for one medium sized adult (I'm 5'9", 210lbs) but I think it would be uncomfortable for 2 adults.
Pros: Relatively light weight & portable (Its kinda long in the pack) Very easy to set up & very fast take down Very large front opening, zipper mesh & I like the magnet windows on the sides (quiet except for a small click) You have a full seat so its comfortable on your back.
Cons: (Here's where Ameristep needs to make serious adjustments) Seat ripped at seams in 3 spots. I need to get some heavy thread to try to repair. The small pegs holding in the hood support on the arms of the chair look like they could break anytime. Not sure what I will do when it does, especially in the fieild, cause at that point it's useless. Get some longer or thicker stakes, or better yet, eliminate them altogether.
I think in hindsight I would have done better with the single man chair blind as it may eliminate some of the ripped chair material (due to the support structure of the 2 man blind) Plus, I hunt strictly with a pistol so I don't have to worry about space like those who hunt with long gun or bow. P.S.- do not try this product with a bow.

Some probems & Suggestions,January 31, 2009

"I own two of these blinds purchased a year apart. One has the mesh window covering and magnetic or hook closers. These would not stay closed in the wind. But the front opening was large.
Also the screw which holds the rib bands came out after only a few uses. From the side of the chair.
The 2nd blind was different in that it had zippered closers but no camo netting. The front opening is smaller which I do not like. Also the first blind had a metal sleeve at the back of each chair side which held the back band up. But the 2nd blind does not have this feature thus the top sags foreward.
A friends girlfriend made us burlap hoodies for the blind to blend into corn or barley fields. This also blocks the wind.
I had the middle chair support tear through the material of chair.
Buy making different types of camo hoods you can adapt the blind to almost any backround, snow, wheat, etc.
Suggestions to Ameristep; Go back to the bigger opening front. Forget the stakes you send with the blind they are to small to be of value.
Go back to having a camo mesh covering for openings but make them so you can slide them around like curtains.
I have three other friends that have these so we use them alot. Have taken elk with black powder and several ducks out of them. Will try them on turkey,deer, dog. and bear.
If you do not want to pack them buy a used golf bag cart. They fit perfect . take the bag off put the blind in its place"

"i love this blind. woked good for me this year, i used it from oct. to dec. when it got cold, i used a small propane tent heater. i also carry small pcs. of half inch plywood to use under the chair legs on uneven ground. easy setup and take down."

"My friend and I used this blind in Kansas this year during deer season. I was pleased to see that it had enough room inside with both of us. We sat many hours in this blind together. I had to pack it in and out of our location each time we hunted. It was a 3/4 mile trek one-way. I found that it was not difficult to pack in, with the two straps that are on the carrying pack. Great product, blends well with surroundings. I also like the mesh windows that have clip/hooks to close them, which makes it a quiet transition when you need to shoot. We had many deer in the open that saw our blind, but paid it no attention. It also allowed us to move around freely inside without being spotted. My friend ended up harvesting a nice deer out of this blind. The only down-fall I found was the stakes. They are very thin and don't hold the straps down. I have purchased heavy duty ones that now reside where those were."

"I ordered two of these blinds. Both were broken right out of the box! The manufacturer used a cheap aluminum screw to secure the four blind support bands to the chair on both sides. A screw on each blind was sheared when it arrived. I used an easy-out to remove to sheared of screw and then replaced all screws (2 per blind) with a beefier galvanized screw. We'll have to wait and see whether the disimilar metals corroded rapidly over time.
The blind is NOT waterproof. I dress in gore-tex in the field so it does not matter to me but be aware this blind WILL leak at the seams in precipitation.
Easy, rapid set-up, lightweight, and very stealthy with the camo window covers up. Good for the do-it-yourselfer if you can manage the simple task of improving the hardware."
