HDS 8,May 4, 2009

"Had a chance to use the sonar/GPS several times now and performs as advertised. If you are familiar with Lowrance units it is a snap to use. The insight maps are great if your body of water is on them. I fish shallow water a lot so the 2 frequency sonar is a plus. My only complaint is that there are no tide stations on the insight maps and they are not yet compatible with navonics maps, both problems are to be corrected in a software update that is due out mid-May. A side imaging sonar transducer will also be a great addition and is due out before the end of the year."

HDS 8,April 8, 2009

"5 star rating on performace capabilities. Superior target separation. Soft keys are excellant. Overall, greatly improved over LCX series. Can't wait for the StructureScan.
That being said, I did have a problem with the first unit, and had to return it to Cabelas. They promptly replaced it. The second one works great.
The StructureScan upgrade will make a great finder even better."

HDS Units Not Ready for Prime Time,March 30, 2009
By FatBasserfrom IL
"I purchased a HDS 7 and 8 for my new rig. I am also running a Humminbird 997SI. My HDS 7 is not reading sonar at all and the 8 is reading inconsistently. I called Lowrance and was told that the units still have software bugs. The units look great and have awesome features, but they do me no good if the units don't work. Fortunately, my HB 997 SI is working flawlessly. I should have waited on the HDS units....."
