"This was my first muzzleloader i havent gone hunting with it yet. But i took it to the range and hit the bulls eye at 50 yards out of the box. and then hit the steal at 200 yds open sights. This gun shoots great and hope to get a big buck with it this year."

Great Out of the Box,December 30, 2008
By MickSDfrom Rapid City, South Dakota
"I did not get a chance to test fire this rifle until the morning I went hunting. I shot one time at 80yds and hit the bull's eye. About an hour later I shot a mule deer doe at two hundred yds (measured with a range finder). The next day I shot a whitetail doe (I had two doe tags) at 15 yds. I am extremely please with this rifle. I used 100 grs of powder (two of the 50 grain equilvant round loads) with the easy loading bullet system recommended in the manual that came with the rife"

Great for the price,January 16, 2008
By 4shorefrom maryland
"Out of the box this shot high and left only two inches, impressive. I broke the front site when cleaning it one day, and my local dealer says they can't get parts, and I emailed the company a month ago and still haven't gotten a response, so the manufacture seems hard to get parts from."

CVA Buckhorn 209 Magnum,December 12, 2007
By Scrat36from Monrovia, CA
"Well worth the money spent. OK here is the low down. The rifle comes with a primer tool to install primers. This is way better than the one the kit comes with. The kit comes with a cheap plastic one. I was very anctious to get my rifle. Cabellas did a great job with ups on delivering. Took 1 week from initial order. After ordering i did my research and bought some triple 777 powder and primers. Thinking i had everything i needed. When the rifle came. The kit Contains 3 holders for powder and bullets. You can not just use powder though. This is a quick load kit that you must put a bullet in, then the powder as its a pipe basicly with a cap on one end. The bullet caps off the other side. (usless for me). You can purchase better totally caped speed loaders at regular gun shops. The kit does not contain a powder measure though. So you will have to go out and buy one. The rifle is in excellent shape. Shipping was very good. Takes some practice and reading to dissasemble to clean. However it does clean very easily. Out of the Box I shot 1 round, then made some minor adjustments. Then shot steel at 300 yards very easily. Get some more bullets as your going to like this firearm. Triple 7 100grains of powder and the sabbot bullets that come with the kit are a very good match."

fun gun,November 2, 2007
By DoveKingfrom Arkansas
"Took the rifle to the range a couple of days after recieving it & new after the first shot I have made a good purchase. I put 5 shots in the bulls eye @ 25yds freehand. disassemble & cleaning are quite simple with the supplied allen wrench. putting the end cap back on while fighting the spring is a challenge. thats the only negative I could find which is minute. My overall score is a five stars. I don't reccomend the 150gr. load unless you are into abuse. Thanks Cabela's for offering another great product."

Great Gun,October 15, 2007
By yankee3002from Sunnyside, UT
"I bought this gun a couple of days before the muzzleloader hunt and was able to shoot it the night before the hunt opened because of work. I finally got to go out on the weekend and was pleased with how light and easy it was to carry. On the last day of the hunt I was able to connect on a great buck with the muzzleloader. It was accurate at 125 yds. and had plenty of knockdown power using 240 grain bullets with 100 grains of powder. Totally recommend this gun to anyone who wants a quality gun!"

Great gun,August 14, 2007
By Roadracer69from Haysville, KS
"This was my very first experience buy and shooting a blackpowder gun. Let me tell you, this gun is great. It is easy to use, and very easy to clean. I don't know much about other black powder guns on the market, but for the money, you can't go wrong with this one. I will really enjoy my purchase when I am eating the deer I get this year."

lota bang for a little buck,July 21, 2007
By getthegaff
"I took my rifle out for the first time on my boat to the chanel islands off the california coast since I didn't have a chance to go to a range. It was so much fun to make some smoke! Accuracy I can not tel you about since I was on a moving boat, but the thing was so easy to load and felt great in my hands. I loaded 150 grains of pyrodex (max) with the 250 grain bullets that come with the starter kit. It took out a chunk of the island! I cant wait to go to the range and see what it can do on paper, from what I hear in other reviews, it's a real nail driver! Don't use the plastic capper that comes with the gun, it will just break when you de-cap."

"Well I'll start by saying I am totaly new to black powder guns period.I recived the gun in two days after I ordered it.I took it to the camp to site it in the following week end.Straight out of the box I was only about 1/2 inch low to the left.A slight sight adjustment,I shot six straight bulleyes in a row at 75 yards.where I hunt I'll be lucky to see them at 50 yards.I plan to put a scope on with 1" rings so I can also use the plain sights. This seems to be a good starter for anyone new to black powder."

"The buckhorn rifle is easy to use and is easy to clean. it is also very accurate up to 200 yards with only 100grns of powder and a 495grn bullet for a 50 cal. you might want to stay away from modern firearms whith this baby; note in washington the 209 ignition is not legal, it must be percusion caps."
