THE most effective darts, most effective caliber,September 3, 2009
By astronomer1from Richmond, VA
"I have owned and used blowguns for many years. I have several, in calibers varying from .38, .40, .50, and now the .625.
Excepting the .625 Big Bore, the actual dart caliber makes little difference because all the smaller darts are simply sharpened wire of a similar thickness. However, the .625 caliber dart shafts are made of much thicker stock. Although they are about the same length as the smaller caliber darts, they are four times heavier.
The larger .625 diameter blowgun tube bore allows greater air flow and this actually allows these heavier darts to shoot even faster than the lighter ones in smaller caliber. But the real power lies in the steel broadhead, which is essentially a steel knife blade about 1/2 wide attached to a 5 inch steel spear. Penetration into soft material exceeds the length of the entire shaft.
Big Bore also offers another steel broadhead but it is made of thinner and more fragile metal. Also that broadhead is mounted into a large plastic ball that limits penetration to about 3/4 inch, and the shaft is simply molded plastic. It looks impressive, but its performance falls far short of the aforementioned steel shafted dart.
So while these steel shafted/steel broadheads are more expensive than the other types of Big Bore darts, they are worth the difference in my opinion.
One final thought--while no blowgun should be considered to be a toy, the Big Bore Blowgun is a serious weapon that requires adult supervision."

Sharpened razor tip darts,August 12, 2009
By 36856from NY
"These are the sharpest darts i can find for my blowgun. I bought them for hunting and they do a good job for small game. But do not get these if your looking for a target dart the tips bend too easily. 4 stars just because they are so much more expensive than the others, but the performance is impressive."

well made....HOWEVER,August 10, 2009
By rjboulefrom Fredonia, KS
"the cone fletching portion of this dart is permanently attached with a glue I think, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it weren't for the fact that the cone is just a hair smaller than other darts, too much air escapes around the flight to produce the velocity I am accustomed to using other darts."

Bad to the bone!,July 14, 2009
By GarGurufrom Mid south
"The mini broadhead darts are the toughest and do the most damage. The bamboo darts are very accurate, but will warp when they get wet."
