"when i first bought the reel man i thought i had a good reel. but after a few trips got this terrible clicking noise when reeling in line under pressure. took to penn dealer to get fixed and here we are again another main gear blown. complete junk. old saying goes you get what you pay for. better off paying the money for a slammer or a shimano."

Waste of good money!,August 17, 2009
By Bigjakes12from Phoenix, AZ
"Wow! What a smooth beauty! Too bad the bail housing is held in place by a thin pice of plastic inside the body. One good drop or bang & it's toast. I bought this for light salt water & catfishing. 3 trips and it's trash. Always thought Penn was a good product, but not this reel.
*Note to Penn... add a piece of steel to hold the axle and you'd have a winner. Until then, it's just another cheaply made disposable reel."

Good reel,July 16, 2009
By buckeyeflyguyfrom Wayne County, OH
"We used this reel extensively on a recent trip to Manitoba, and it handled big pike and lake trout easily. The spool is not as accurately machined as it is on my older, made in the USA, Penn reels. My new Captiva 6000 is a lot of reel for the money. Having said that, I would happily pay twice as much for a similar reel made in the USA."

"I do not recommend this reel for salt water fishing. the reverse handle mecanism went bad after a few fishing trips. The bearing is of poor quality and failed right away. This reel was properly oiled and maintained but cannot handle salt water at all."

another great reel by PENN,January 16, 2009

"first off i have many many PENN reels from old surf masters that are around 60 years old a few 209's and 309's 500 jig masters and a couple 525 mag's
and these Captiva 24000's i have here are made just as rock solid as my other reels they aren't like a lot of companies that slack and use cheap parts now days they use high grade parts if you are thinking of buying this or any other PENN reel do it they are up there with the best of the best"
