"Used once so far. Price is reasonable. Bale is stiff to open, perhaps it will loosen up. Casts well."

"Great reel at a great price. 8 ball bearings make it run as smooth as silk. I would buy Okuma reel again."

Incredible reel for the price.,August 10, 2009
By VerminSlayerfrom Carthage, Indiana
"This is one of the smoothest reels I have ever owned. Just put it through a week in Canada on walleye and northerns and it performed like a champ. I will own more of these super deal reels. You can't go wrong with this equipment!"

Embarrasses more expensive reels,August 4, 2009
By Walleye4dinner
"I bought my first Hardstone (HS30) reel as part of a combo mounted on a Cabela's Pro Guide rod. I was so impressed with the reel that I now own three. Each one outperforms reels that have cost more than the total I paid for the three Hardstones put together. The reels are butter smooth, the drags work great and I have noticed no quality issues with any of the three I own. The ergonomics are good, and I have no trouble fishing with these reels all day long. I have taken walleye, cats, smallmouth and trout with no issues.
Given my experience, I have no qualms about recommending these reels to anyone who is looking for quality reels at a bargain price.
p.s. The Hardstone HS10 mounted on a Daiwa Triforce Shorty rod is an excellent combination that will pull trout out of a lake with great balance but is small enough to keep in your truck without getting in the way."

Hardstone 30's,July 4, 2009
By SaltWaterFlatsfrom Bonita Springs, FL
"I purchase two of these reels about a year ago to use on walleyes & northerns on my Canadian fishing trips. I have had no complaints whatsoever. They function well and the drags are excellent.
In fact, I liked them so well that last spring I purchased two additional 30's to use in FL. These are spooled with braid and are used primarily for snook, reds and some trout fishing. Here too, I have been very pleased. While perhaps not as good as my Epixor 30's, they are not as pricey either. The drags are excellent.
Caught a 33+" Jack using this reel. Just about spooled me, but was able to get him in. Immediately after, I hooked a second one. Got him to the boat and the fish straightened the hook and was gone. The reels operated perfectly and the drags were extremely smooth.
I like Okuma reels and have never been disappointed with any of them. I would recommend this reel to anyone. A very good reel, especially considering their low cost. Very much a bargain."

By Countrybealfrom Eastern, Pa
"I am dissapointed in the reels performance. THis is the first season with it and I am looking already for a new reel. I know for its price what do you expect but the Okuma name let me down on this one."

Okuma Hardstone Reel,April 11, 2009
By Harry009from Buffalo, NY
"Hi, I bought the HS-30 and the HS-20. I just took them out on a test trip and I found the general workings to be good. The bails are nicely balanced and the oversized roller transfers the line to spool great. I however found the index finger reach to the line on the HS-30 model to be a bit far for my liking. The HS-20 is much better in that regard but the spool on the HS-20 is a little shallow and doesn't hold much line in my opinion. I'll make use of the HS-20 but I think the 30 will be returned. I tried to change my grip of the HS-30 to see if I could find a way to enjoy it but after my knuckles took a strike from the spinning bail. I am reserved to not using it as a casting rod if I keep it."
