"I just finished a 2 week grouse hunting trip in which i used the backtrack gps daily. It works well in perfect weather but in deep woods or even partly cloudy days the unit would not lock on to a satellite. DON'T forget your compass!"

"First real experience with a GPS model in the field... I took it ELK hunting last month and it was GREAT! It was easy to put my camp, hunting vehicle and new game viewpoint location in, and find my way back to all three locations. A must for all hunters, woods, moutains and forest. It received signal 100% of the time, my cell phone didn't but my Backtracker did...
One problem, the one I ended up buying, was the last one on the shelf the (pink model) don't wait like I did and end up with the pink one."

"This GPS is just what I was looking for ... very simple to use. I've tried to use the other base models and they are sometimes very difficult to program or use. The thing I really like is even if you had to change batteries in the field it still maintains your waypoints. I haven't had to change the batteries yet but I did take them out to test this. It's a great product."

"got mine today and was eager to try it out. works great but you must hold it flat out in front of yourself pointing so you can read the words on the face. it kept up fine at a brisk pace too. it was accurate within about 4 yards of spot i marked for start. (if you can't find something 4 yards away when lost i don't think anything will help you)"

"I have now purchased 2 Backtracks.Works great for an "as the crow flys" device..Well worth the cost..Great as a digital compass,very accurate..Battery cover is a little cheap and I'm not sure how weather proof it will be.The cover makes the change out of batteries a little cumbersome.Works great for my kayak duck hunts in the fog,and Deer & Hog hunting in the Northern Califonia coastal hills..Buy one..It works !!!"

"If you truly want or need a GPS, this product is not for you. However if you want a device that will get you back to one, two or three locations, you cannot find an "easier to use" tool.
The beauty of this product is its simplicity. Often, a hunter does not use a GPS year round and just as often, a "backtrack" option is just one of many choices offered in most GPS units. When one truly needs to know the way back to camp or a vehicle, one does not want to guess whether they have the right page and program opened for the backtrack assistance. They simply want to turn it on and see the direction and distance to their destination in quick fasion.
This is where the Bushnell Backtrack delivers. Think of it more as a "smart" compass rather than a GPS as one cannot store information beyond three locations."

"I'm not sure why anyone has a problem with this unit. You push the button when you park and then go for your hike. When you want to go back you push a button and it has an arrow that points you to your truck with distance. All you have to do is follow the arrow. Basically it has 3 waypoints. Very simple and I've had no problems with batteries. For the price, perfect."

"This product wears out batteries to fast. Could not get more then three minutes use with standard or rechargable batteries. Do not need a Gps shutting down when I am trying to find my way out of the forest. Back to the old reliable compass for me."

"Mine would not keep a reading so I sent it back to Bushnell 5 weeks ago with the required $10. Received a card that they had it for inspection but absolutely could not get through to an actual person to determine how long the repair might take. "High volume of calls" routine. I realize not every product will work perfectly, but Bushnell's so-called customer sevice has now convinced me to avoid all Bushnell products."
