Slug performance,October 1, 2009
By shotgunloverfrom Southeast, Wisconsin
"I went to the range with four brands of ammunition to determine what type of ammunition my new fully rifled barrel slug gun preferred.
The three shot group at fifty yards, with the Federal Premium Barnes Expander Sabot Slugs created holes that touched each other.
At 100 yards, the group stayed just under an inch and three quarters.
I would have expected this type of performance from a rifle, not a slug gun.
Thank you for a very consistant product!"

First buck,August 10, 2009
By blacktailhunter1from California
"I shot my first buck with these slugs December 2008 at Camp Pendleton, CA. I used my Berreta Extema 2 with a rifled barrel; Burris ballistic plex 2x7 shotgun/ ML scope. Sited it in for 50, 100 and 200 yds. Used 12 GA, 2/34", 3/4 oz Federal Premium Barnes expander sabot hollow point. Using shooting stix, I shot it through the neck into the head with perfect slug expansion. The buck dropped in place. Here is the amazing part, it was about a 200 yd shot. I didn't have a range finder so I'm not sure of the exact distance. Too bad it was only a 2-3 yr old forked horn. There is always next year. Buy these slugs!"

Outstanding,April 1, 2009
By DeerPongfrom Eastern Shore of Maryland
"I shoot 20 ga., 3 in. slugs. They group nice, leave big holes, only problem, multiple deer, big holes, alot of blood, which is which? Good problem to have. Great slug, ethical to animal. Slug performs well in my set up, most of us shoot or have shot these, we are all satisfied. Not all slugs work in every gun, give these a try, if they work for your gun, buy a freezer!"

D.D.D Dead Deer Down,February 3, 2009
By Waterdrinkerfrom Brnadywine, Md
"On about the 3rd day of the Maryland firearm season, I shot a deer at about 50 yards with my Mossberg 835. I was surprised the deer actually ran because when I was gutting it, there were a bunch of little chunks and 3/4 of one lung in the pool of blood inside of the deer floating around."

Wow!,January 6, 2009
By Fruchfrom Boston, MA
"My advice to anyone is to buy these slugs. I have taken 3 deer with these and all went only 4 feet....straight down. I was lucky enough to recover one of the slugs from the animal and it performed amazingly well. A single shot from 96 yards hit just a bit high, but dropped it it it's tracks. The slug had perfect mushrooming when recovered, while maintaining it's shape in the back end. The next buck, shot at 6 yards, actually flipped over sideways.
Accurate and powerful, these are my choice in both 2 3/4" and 3". You won't regret using them."

cant beat'em,December 31, 2008
By barnesexpanderfrom Maryland
"I have yet to shoot a deer with these sabots that did not end up in a pile. I am using an H&R ultra slug 12 ga. Very specifically (premium barnes expander sabots) not only shoot incredibly consistent, but have devastating knockdown power. The last animal taken was a doe at 100 yrds. just behind the shoulder....in a pile."

Federal premium barnes (non tipped) sabot slug,December 10, 2008
By GHUAHS
"hello, I was hunting in northern Iowa and i happened to see a pack of about 4 white tail deer so i loaded my benelli m2 with four barnes non tipped expander sabot slugs right then they heard me loading my gun, so they looked up and watched i had pulled up my gun and. i shot one big buck and to average sized does with 2 Shots!!!!! both does were behind each other facing me so i pulled the trigger at the does and then moved quickly to the buck and shot him, he was down instantly one bullet through the lungs and the other bullets shock went through both does and i found the expander on the ground 40 yards behind them it mushroomed out one inch and a half its orginal size. and thats what you call power!!! so then i fit my whole arm in the wounds of the deer they were massive wound channels. so if youd ask me if i would reccomend this to anyone? YES (SORRY FOR CURSING) BUT THESE BULLETS ARE THE STUFF YOU WANT THEY ARE THE SAME AS THE REMINGTON SABOT LIKE THE COPPER SOLID AND THE CORE LOCT BUT CHEAPER"

Very accurate with 1" in 35" twist barrel,November 28, 2008
By cmroskofrom N.E. Ohio
"I shoot a 12 gauge 870 with a Hasting's 1 in 35" twist rifled barrel with a 2x8 scope. The 3" Federal Barnes expander shoots better than any other slug I've tried.
The 2 3/4" expanders , both in the 3/4 and 1 oz., do not shoot as tight of a 100 yd. group for me as the 3" - 1 oz. does. I think it has just the right amount of velocity and bullet shape to consistently hold good patterns out to about 130 yds. off of a good bench rest. Beyond that range I'm reluctant to take a shot with any slug I've tried because the reliable and consistent accuracy isn't there. A cross wind also has a strong impact on accuracy with the heavy slugs at longer ranges and I prefer to make as clean a kill as possible.
I wish Federal and Barnes would put a plastic ballistic tip on the 1 oz. 3" expander sabot. I think that would extend the reliable accuracy out a god bit further, maybe add another 25 to 35 yds.
None of the high speed slugs (1900 fps) work well in my 1 in 35" twist barrel. I've tried just about all of them. I've also tried many of the other top class slugs, Winchester, Lightfield, Brenneke, Remington, Hornady, etc. None perform as well for me as the 3" Federal Barnes expander does.
I've had relatively good success with 3" Remington copper solids but the 3" Barnes bullet beats it out at ranges past 100 yds.
I highly recommend adding a simms limbsaver recoil pad to any slug gun. It'll make a night and day difference in recoil, no more slug shooting black and blues...."

Hope they never stop making these,November 21, 2008
By Notsobigefrom America's North Coast
"Out of my particular 870 cantilever barrel these cannot be beat. The 12 ga., 2 3/4 in., 1 oz, 1450 fps load will fly consistently out to 200 yards. I wouldn't shoot an animal at that range because the drop in trajectory and energy loss is too great. It's still good to know that the slug will reach out and touch anything I choose to pull the trigger on at more realistic midwestern woodland whitetail ranges. Bullet performance is truly impressive. Most often these blast right through an animal but if you do manage to retrieve one from your deer you'll see what I mean. They expand exactly as advertised."

"I have used the Federal Barnes Expnader slugs during the shot gun season and thought that the performance was excellent. They group well out of my 11-87 out to one hundred yards. They also provide good knock down performance on deer as well. A number of my family and freinds also use Federal Barnes Expnaders for the same reasons tha I have mentioned."

Federal 12 ga. Barnes Expander Slugs get it done,December 26, 2007
By NCOWSfrom Marshalltown, Iowa
"These slugs have excellent performance, both accuracy in rifled barrels, and terminal performance on whitetails. I have killed 15-20 deer with them, and they performed as they should every time. I switched from the 1 oz. to the 3/4 oz. this year; the same high accuracy and performance is present in both sizes. Used in two different brands of pump guns with rifled barrels/cantilever scope mounts. Very highly recommended."

Awsome slugs,November 25, 2007
By Enjoyshuntingfrom Western Massachusetts
"I have honestly only used these slugs in my Browning Gold Series 12g. shotgun. They were recommended to be by a friend when I bought the gun. I have been using these slugs for the past 4 years and I have shot many deer with them. Every shot I have taken has been dead on at anywheres from 20yds to 100yds. I have only had to take one shot and none of the deer have wondered more than a few feet before dying. Even shooting these slugs at 100yds they keep a very neat close pattern. They readings say about 2 inches patters at 100yds but mine are less than that, maybe an inch at the most. I know I haven't tried any other slugs but I wouldn't use anything else. They are a perfect combination with my 12g. and I would recommend them to anyone."

"I bought 20 ga. and 12 ga. for 2 different guns the ammo was highly recommended by a cabelas associate. these were shot out of 2 different H&R slug guns and could barely hold a 12 inch group at 50 yards."
