It works!,

"I had a 416 Rigby that was kicking like a beast and even broke the scope base while trying to sight it in the first time. The DFT tamed the beast. I was able to sight it in and shoot a nice group. If you are a flincher, this will help. If not, a good rest and bags allows me to shoot sub 1" groups in the managable calibers. Here is why I did not give it a 5 star rating. The shot bag trays need a little more clearance to get the bags in and out a little easier. A little more clearance above the shot bags to adjust for different guns is needed as well. Assembly directions could use some help. Advice: Place the DFT directly on the shooting surface. I normally use a blanet to protect things. The blanket allowed the sled to slide a little more. Getting rid of the blanket helped reduce the recoil and sliding."

No recoil No shoulder shock,

"The Caldwell Lead Sled DFT performed well. The rest was easy to adjust both elevation and windage and it maintained these settings well between rounds. Both of my shoulders are separated due to sports injuries and I am very sensitive to sudden forceful jars to my shoulders and the Caldwell Lead Sled DFT made sighting in my rifles fun and enjoyable. No more wasted rounds due to flinching and at the price of ammunition today it won't take too long to pay for itself."

Good Product!,

"The Caldwell Lead Sled DFT is very sturdy and well built but it has some flaws, for example; the front rest is a littel wobbley and all the adjustments are rough. If you are looking for a rest that will hold a gun for precision shooting this isn't it. It is basically designed to take the kick out of it and it does! I shot about 30rds of 30-06 and my shoulder wasn't even sore, and that was without weight. I will say that using it has helped me focus on squeezing the trigger and not yanking it!!"

"I am well satisfied with the way the lead sled worked. The only complaint was the rear foot slided around too much on shooting bench. I fixed this easily by adding a strip of non-slip tape on it."

Very good but you need additional weight,
August 31, 2009

"I bought the lead sled dft to help sight-in since I have a habbit of flinching that has been hard to break. The box came quickly and was very easy to set up. I do wish that the instruction photos would be in color. I sighted in an Omega muzzleloader with 100 grains and didn't feel a thing. The second gun that I shot was the new Remington SPS Super Slug 12-gauge. I was worried that the Shur-Shot stock would hit the bottom glide but the gun fits nicely. I shot 15 shells of the Remington 3" 385 grain accutip slugs and never felt anything on my shoulder. HOWEVER, at the time I wasn't using any additional weight and the sled jumped after each shot and I had to reset it up each time. With that, I ordered 50lbs of #8 lead shot but I haven't used it yet. The lead bags don't really fit to well in the sled trays. I'm not sure if #6 shot wouldn't have been a better choice. You have to have the forearm slide all the way to the front for the lead bags to fit and even then it's a chore to get them in there. I will probably open the lead bags to use some from each and use it in the forearm bag. It come filled with ground shells or something. It doesn't seem to be too sturdy."

Well built product,
August 24, 2009

"This product is very well built and thought out. I have only been using one bag of shot on the sled so far (sighting in a slug gun) and it greatly reduces the recoil. Two bags and there would be absolutely none. The only minus I see is that when repositioning the front elevation, your point of aim moves enough that you need to move the windage also to get is back into position. Seems to me tha the threads in the front elevation screw being large causes this and that finer threads would alleviate this problem. All in all it is well worth the money and would recommend it. For those shooting high powered rifles and especially slug guns, this takes away the thought of "this is going to kick the devil out of me" just before you pull the trigger."

Very satisfied with the Lead Sled DFT,
July 19, 2009
By tjl1010

"Just tried out the Lead Sled DFT at the range and I have to say it was well worth the money. Sighting in my new scope on my .30/06 with 180 grain bullets it drastically cut down on the time and number of rounds I used. I purchased a 25 lb bag of lead shot and the kick was minimal (maybe slightly more than a .22). After each shot I did have to re-adjust the whole sled to get the target back close to the crosshairs so I could use the elevation and wind adjustments. I thought those adjustments worked just fine. While assembling I did remove the Phillips head screw from the front elevation post and re-installed with some thread lock. Also I put some stiff foam in the rear stock cradle in between the metal and the plastic covering so that the stock would fit snug. These two additional steps seemed to help. The gun sits high once in the Sled so next time I'm going to take something about 6" high to put on the stool to sit on."

"It did the trick. I can shoot dime size bullseyes at 100 yds. if my reloads are good enough and that is the point. Once I sight in my riffle I can develop a good reload combination. Then when I go to the field, I do not need to question my riffle, it is up to me and only me to place the shot."

Caldwel Lead Sled DFT,
March 24, 2009
By delawareshooter
|
"Fairly easy to assemble. All parts fit with no tweaking. Not a precision shooting rest. Adjustments are rough approximations, since the gun is not held securely. It's eqivalent to shooting from sand bags. If you use the Caldwell shot carrier bags, the weight tray does not easily allow the front weight bag to fit under the frame rail. The Caldwell bags are very nice and make it easy to transport 25 lbs. of shot with the handles. If you want to use the max of four bags, two are draped over the rail. You will need a booster seat to compensate for the extra height of the rest above the shooting bench. I have not tried it with heavy recoiling guns yet, but I'm betting it will do the job."

Caldwell lead sled DFT,

"I have used other Caldwell lead sleds before and this is they're best rifle rest bar none. The instructions are clear and it goes together with ease. It has everything in a rifle rest that you could ask for. What I think is it's best feature "still" is your able to get behind the rifle while in the rest and shoot as if it wasn't even there. For the money you simply can't beat it. Thanks Caldwell for listening to your customers and improving on what was already a good rest. A 5 star rating well deserved!"

Caldwell™ Lead Sled DFT,
December 17, 2008
By arizonagirl
from Arizona
|
"I read all the reviews, sounded good, but sure changed my mind when I got it. It does hold my mag. rifle from kicking the heck out of me, but to get accurate shooting, it is very poor. Besides the usual complaints others have written about, my complaint is trying to get repeatable accurate holes in a target. The front rest doesn't hold the fore stock. The stock sinks deeper into the padding on every shot. The back support lets the rubber tip of the butt plate ride on the rest. When you grip the rifle, the tip will squeezes down as you grip the rifle. I called Caldwell & emailed them, and so far, no response."
