Generally good -- just one issue, August 10, 2009

"Tipton's Best Gun Vise does what it claims to do, and does make cleaning, gun maintenance, and minor gunsmithing (e.g. scope mounting) a lot easier than with no vise at all.

I guess the only thing that bothers me is the lightweight construction of the clamping pads that secure the stock in the vise. When you tighten them down, it is obvious that they are bending and flexing. and if you are not careful, it is possible to move the gun a bit without loosening the clamps. This can be a problem when trying to level a scope reticle, since you have to start by setting the gun in place with a level across the top of the scope base, then transfer to a muzzle-mounted laser projector and level. If you move the gun while in process of putting on the rings or mounting the scope, it may no longer be level -- you need to go back and check it.

A friend of mine has a wooden gun vise that does NOT have this problem. I would have expected better from a vise that costs as much as this one.

Other than that, the vise seems well made, and is certainly adjustable to accomodate just about any firearm. The built-in trays to organize small parts and cleaning accessories are a good feature."

One Concern - Rigidity, March 30, 2009

"Overall I like the utility of this tool. It worked fine, holding the gun well while I worked on it. The only concern I have is the rigidity of the stock clamping end. Both side stanchions flex outward when clamping down on the gun stock sides. These probably need some "beefing up" to make them more rigid. I'm afraid there will eventually be fatigue failure where the plastic is repeatedly flexed over time from clamping."

"As a reasonably priced gun vise the Tipton vise has a lot of adjustment capablity. It is not a panacea that handles everything perfectly but works well for most guns. ARs, Rem 700 etc... Each gun will requires you to adjust the rests and clamps, but that said there is plenty of range of movement for each segment of the vise to handle different firearms. Handy for most uses. It is not a vise to set on a bench and bore sight a scope on. It is a tool to hold your gun while you work on it."

"I wanted to get stable worrk platform to hold any of my 23 shotgun for cleaning. This vise holds all from my 10 ga. double to my .410 ga. pump and everything in between.
My rifles range from .22 cal to 50cal. muzzle loader not
one was unable to be fit in place. .It should not used for
"hammer and chisel" work. However in it' s place it performs well for a primarily plastic work station.
