"I tend to buy most of my reels in this price range. This one tops them all. Very easy to cast. I wasn't sure about the way that the weights are set up and thought that this would be a pain if I had to mess with it on the boat. This problem has never happened. It's my favorite reel to date. Second place goes to the new quantum energy."

"I am very impressed with this reel. I have older Curado 100 series reels, which are great, but they don't even compare to this reel. Super smooth to cast, diffucult to backlash when properly set, drag is very smoth. Paired with a loomis crank rod, phew, Nice!

"I needed a slower retrieve reel like this 5:0:1 and since I had the older Curado I knew this new 200E5 had to be a winner. It is light weight but very heavy duty for large bass. It casts like a dream. It is a Shimano. That is enough said when it comes to fishing reels. The reel was on back order for almost a month and Cabela's kept me informed of the situation. I knew this was the reel I wanted so I waited. I'm glad I did. It casts weightless wacky worms with ease and likewise for all other lures. Excellence in engineering and a quality product."

"I got my Curado about a month ago. I have made thousands of casts, even into a stiff wind, without any problems. I have caught over 100 nice White Bass, a 28 Pound Carp, several Walleye, Channel Cat, and Wipers. The drag is excellent and consistantly smooth. Cast controls are easy to use. I have several other casting reels (not el-cheapo's) and the Curado is by far the best of the lot for distance, comfort and trouble free use. The others will occasionally backlash, the Curado doesn't, so I spend more time fishing and no time picking out bird nests. Plan to sell other reels and get another Curado. I got what I paid for - excellence."

"I've only used the reel about 40-50 outings now, so it's not a long term review.
Spooled w/15# Maxima Chameleon, used only in salt with lures over 1/2oz to date. Line cap is adequate so far.
It keeps up with any other reel I have, low or round, and better than all except my round C5's.
Drag is very smooth and you're able to set and have it hold perfectly on the tension you want. Spool tension knob stays put and sets easily and accurately. Adjusting the centrifugal controls is quick & easy. Those are 10-star items.
Spool/frame design is quite open and very user-friendly. These guys must fish as a hobby because the overall ergonomics are superb... handle, drag, comfort, weight, not a single backlash and Chameleon is not an easy line to cast easily. Retrieve speed is excellent, although I do have to slow myself down periodically.
It fits all but my largest rods.
My only critique is the paint job. The paint is not a durable finish paint, and scratches badly, very easily.
All-round, this reel nears perfectly-executed engineering & quality control. My compliments to Shimano. I hate to say it, but you don't always get what you pay for. Your Money is well-spent here.

"I purchased the new 201E to replace an older model. I loaded it up with 20# (6 # diameter) super braid and went bass fishing. I was tossing out spinner baits with no problems once I tweaked the weight of the lure and the internal breaks. Casting out 25 yds. was no problem and the retrieve rate was excellent. I'm so happy with the reel that I bought the 301E for steelhead/salmon fishing on the Klamath River near Weitchpec, CA this coming September."
"Do yourself a favor and buy this reel!! I have a bunch of casting reels, including several Chronarchs and other higher end Shimano reels. Bought the Curado as a back up and for guests. After using it I wonder why I didn't just buy a pile of them for myself. It is well made; solid and comfortable in your hand. Mechanics are smooth and quiet. This reel will spoil you so be prepared. It really IS one of the better values on the market today. And I've been using casting reels for about sixty years!!"

"I bought the 300E reel and was a little diappointed with the smoothness of the reel out of the box just testing it. My entire attitude changed though when I put 40lb power pro on the reel and started flipping for bass with it. Reel is excellent! I love the reel and wouldn't trade it for anything, the extra line capacity is also great to use for Pike and Muskie casting. You want a versatile casting reel for multi-species this is the one for you. The extra line capacity isn't really necessary for bass fishing, I would stay with the 200 or 100 for that."
