    excellent powder, November 19, 2009

"I recently switched to this powder. I cannot say enough good about it. super accurate, super clean. I shot 12 rounds without having to swab the barrell and never lost consistancy out to 125 yds. after shooting, breech plug came right out and only a few patches and barrell was spotless."

    By jcnjr from new jersey

"Have been using this product since it was introduced. Claims are all valid no crud ring, no swabbing between shots, easy cleanup with Hoppe #9. Have used 5 containers and using CCI 209M primers have not experienced any hang fires with T/C Omega or Triumph ML. Under 1" at 100 yds. Best results were 100grs. with a Harvester 300 gr PT Gold with Harvester's black crush ribbed sabot."

Blackhorn Powder Nightmare, October 17, 2009
By HOSPNP from Hot Springs, AR

"I've hunted all my life, deer, ducks, turkey you name it. Within the last few years I've started travelling out west to elk hunt in Colo. and absolutly love it. My buddy and I got drawn for the 2009 Colo. BP season and began planning early in the year. Now this isn't a guided hunt we simply hunt public land and do it on our own. Well, I decided to try this new powder I saw (Blackhorn 209) in my new Knight KP-1 with 300 grain belted bullet. On the range I was impressed. High velocity and dependable; however, I only fired the stuff in warm dry conditions. On the first afternoon of my Colo. elk hunt the temp. averaged around 55 degrees and periods of light rain. I had a rubber muzzel cover over my barrell to keep out any moisture and full plastic CCI 209M primer in place. An hour before dark out stepped a 340 class bull! I never anticipated seeing this on public land. I pulled the triger on my Knight and heard the primer pop and then a "sizzle." The 120gr. charge pushed my bullet about 12 inches up in the barrell. I almost passed out! All of the time and money I invested into this trip went up with a "sizzle." If you plan on hunting in perfect conditions or sitting on the range go ahead and buy it. But I still have nightmares about that Sept. day in Colo."

    Awesome Performance, October 15, 2009
    By RodLee112 from Indiana

"Shot 50 rounds out of my CVA Wolf. Used 100 grains with Powerbelts 295 gr and 245 gr (I got them for free but will not use hunting) and CCI 209M primers (much cheaper than ML 777 primers). Shot 1" groups at 50 yards for both bullets. Went to Hornady SST low drags which I use for hunting, it was like stacking nickles. Easy loading, Didn't have to spit swab the barrel to get the Powerbelts or Hornady's down after shots. Definitely a plus. Another major pro is that I didn't have to wait for the smoke to clear to observe the target (no wind day). There was some smoke but compared to 777 and Pyrodex you don't have to wait for the smoke curtain to clear. Packs a wallop!! 100 gr felt like 150 grain of 777 or pyrodex. Gotta love that feeling!!!

Only thing I hate about this powder is the price. Puts a dent in the pocket! BUT I will continue to buy as it's the next best thing to sliced bread!

Buy it... You won't be disappointed!

Just the BEST, September 22, 2009
    By CMDir from Southwest OHIO

"This is by far the best black powder substitute I have ever used. It burns clean, gives me great groups, and loads easily without cleaning between shots. I have a triumph with a tight bore, something common for T/C. I shot 14 shots without cleaning, and without losing accuracy. There was no crud ring near the breach. NONE. When I did clean it, the first wet patch went straight to the bottom and did not get stuck and came out easily. That is something that can't be said for other powders. Shooting 110-120 grains/volume of this feels like shooting 150 grains/volume of 777, or a 12 guage slug. It packs a whallop. This is absolutely worth every red cent. 100 grains/volume with MMP 3 Petal-EZ sabot and 300 grain Speer Gold Dot is gonna put a hurtin on some deer. Buy some. Sight in. Kill deer."

    good stuff, September 17, 2009
    By outdoorkev from Iowa

"Good powder, nice not to swab between shots. Don't need to clean your gun until end of the season. shoots consistant groups. Does not ignite well with some breechplugs with small diameter holes. Had an Encore and knight that acted up with it. Drill out breech plug with #58 drill bit and it worked great. Call blackhorn company with number on powder bottle and they can give you suggestions."

blackhorn 209 vs other powders, September 12, 2009
    By Cory from Southside, Virginia

"Just test fired the new blackhorn 209 powder in my encore this am.

Pros: Shot tightest group ever of .452 inch at 100 yds

compared to 1.5 inch with other powders.
Do not need to clean between shots
Easy loading with no crud ring
    Can use std 209 primers

Cons: Not as clean as American Pioneer powder or Black
mag powder but as noted above more consistent
    providing tighter groups
Clean up definitely took more than two solvent
    patches
breech plug has much more fouling all over it

Will definitely be shooting this powder from now on.

Very pleasant to use, September 10, 2009
By rwv1 from Colorado Springs, CO

"I really like this powder. The barrel of my rifle stays very clean compared to other black powder substitutes. I run a couple patches down the barrel after every 5 or 6 shots and keep shooting. I can clean the rifle in the fraction of the time it took me before, and there is absolutely no risk of corrosion to the rifle. It has very little or no impact on bullet flight between shots; everything hits in the same place."

    By chucker308 from Greenville,SC

"This is the best powder I have ever used in a muzzelloader.
I hope when it becomes more popular, the price will come down some. If it stayes on the market, I will not use anything else. It worked great with my Omega and Black Diamond.

    Great Powder, September 1, 2009
    By GN62 from IL

"Just started using this powder in my Knight Long Range Hunter. Shot a string of around 30 shots with no swabbing in between.
No problems loading sabots at all. Very consistent shooting. Will probably stick with this powder from now on.

Blackhorn 209, best in its class, July 13, 2009
    By MNHunt from Rochester, MN

"Went to the range and got the results I was looking for. Accurate, clean and most important hassle free. I worked up several different loads, with various bullet sabot combinations without cleaning between each shot and got great results. The T/C Triumph cleaned up easily with Hoppes solvent and because Blackhorn 209 did what it claims, made for an enjoyable day at the range! The only way to make this product better is to make a pellet!!!"

Reinventing the wheel, July 13, 2009
    By milhunt from Northern Illinois

"I finally tried the new Blackhorn 209 in my TC Omega with TC 300 g Shockwaves. I had previously sighted the Omega in with Triple 7. I fired a three shot group with 100 grains of the Blackhorn at 50 yards and the group was under 1 inch, dead center, and 2.5 inches high- in other words, perfect! The subsequent shots went down the barrel as easily as the first. I did this with no swabbing in between shots. When I cleaned the gun at home it was like cleaning a firearm using smokeless powder- 10 minutes and I was done using Hoppes No. 9. While I had read many positive reviews about BH 209, I was still amazed. The makers of Blackhorn have truly reinvented the wheel when it comes to ML shooting!"

    Blackhorn 209 powder, July 2, 2009
By daddyt from Bath County, Virginia

"I have spent the last two days putting this powder to the test. I started with a new gun (TC Triumph) and a new scope (Leupold Ultimateslam). After boresighting the rifle I went to the board at 25 yards and the first shot was about 6 inches high and 5 inches to the right. My previous experiences with Pyrodex and Triple 7 and a clean barrel was that the second shot would not be anywhere close to the first shot. I was wrong! The second shot touched the first. It began to rain then so I brought everything inside and waited a full day before I went back to see what would happen with a dirty barrel and an overnight sit. After adjusting the scope I settled in and the next shot was dead center and the follow-up shot again was touching. Loading the fourth bullet was as easy as loading the first and when I cleaned the barrel with Hoppes it was like cleaning one of my high-powered rifle barrels-6 patches and she came out clean. It doesn't get any easier than this. Gone are the cleanings between shots, the crud rings, the worry if you have the bullet seated correctly everytime and all the mess and aggrevation that comes with Pyrodex and Triple 7. Next week we will move back to 50 yards and make sure that the windage adjustment is dead center and then to 100 for a three-shot group. I can't believe that someone has finally developed a powder that is this good! There is a little more recoil than with my Knight muzzleloader but that is to be expected with the increased velocity, plus I went from a 295 grain PowerBelt to a 245 PowerBelt for even more speed. Yes, this stuff is expensive but it delivers what it promises and the tech support you get from the factory is excellent. At the current price you are getting a deal in the amount of time you save not to mention the lack of hassle to clean up when you are through. I have read reviews where they said they couldn't get the Blackhorn to ignite but I had no problems with Winchester 209 primers-don't use the primers intended for Triple 7 for they lack the fire to ignite Blackhorn consistently. The factory recommends CCI 209 M magnum primers but I didn't need to go to that extreme, but then again it was 70+ degrees and not raining? If you live or hunt in a cold environment I would invest in the CCI's to be on the safe side. I look forward to seeing how this powder performs on deer and at longer ranges-I already know how easy it is to clean up!"

OK but not amazing, June 23, 2009
    By Trip99 from Dorsey, IL

"I shoot my Omega year round firing at least 50 shots per month. I have shot all the BP substitutes. This stuff is somewhat cleaner. Just from shooting one can of this stuff I could tell their was an increase in velocity. Shooting 120 grains of this has as much or more recoil than 150 Grains of loose 777. You definately need to use the regular 209 primers as well. I wouldn't say this stuff is bad but their was no noteworthy differency in accuracy and I still produced the best groups by swabbing between shots. For someone who shoots alot like me, the marginal advantages this powder may offer doesn't justify paying quite a bit more for a considerably smaller container. I would say try a bottle and see if you like it, but I don't think it's the greatest thing ever."

45 cal Knight Master Hunter Disc Extreme, May 28, 2009
    By Pak43

"I really wanted to see this powder work in my 45 Cal Knight. I have used 110 grains of 777 for the last few years and have had excellent results. The bullet I use is a 240 grain QT from Precision Rifle. I tried the same load in my Knight and ruptured the primer! Meaning the rear of the primer ended up inside the bolt. I then lowered the charge to 100 grains and again ended up taking the bolt apart to remove a piece of the ruptured primer. At 95 grains I still had the same primer problem!! I finally ended up with a usable load of 85 grains! This was a disappointment to say the least. Misfiring of the charge has not been a problem as discussed in several other reviews. I use a Winchester shotgun primer with excellent ignition. All in all I am sorry to see that the Blackhorn powder will not be used in my hunting plans."

No more crud rings, March 30, 2009
    By deerkrazy from Lawrenceburg, Indiana

"Went to Florida last weekend and got a chance to shoot my Remington Genesis at a gun range with my brother who also has a genesis. I used the 120 gr Blackhorn 209 with the CCI 209 primer pushing a knight 250 gr tmz. My brother shot 150 gr 777, with my CCI 209 primers. I shot mine 15 or 16 times. He shot his about 7 times. When we returned home, we sat and cleaned out guns. I looked down both barrels because of what I read about the blackhorn being cleaner. As many times as I shot, my barrel looked the same as my brothers who shot a lot less. The biggest difference came when I was finished quickly and my brother was complaining that he could not get the crud ring out. His breech plug was much harder to remove and clean as well. My rounds went down as easy on the last shot as they did the first. My brother was struggling to get his round down even after only 7 shots. I will never use 777 again. I love the blackhorn product. I can't wait for deer season in Indiana. If you haven't tried this product do your self a favor and at least try it, you won't be disappointed."
