Light up the night,December 29, 2008
By bewilfrom Almonte, Ont.
"This flashlight is awesome, in it's low setting (10 lumens) it lights up the trails for walking with the dog in the early mornings and the evenings. When switched to the high settings (140 lumens) it's the equivalent of having an automobile headlight switched to high beam. And this flashlight is compact, waterproof and lightweight ... brilliant."

Leupold MX Modular Flashlight System - Awsome!,December 5, 2008
By GaryinMDfrom Odenton, Maryland
"While this may seem expensive for a flashlight, look again. You get to custom build a flashlight for your needs: select a 2-cell or 3-cell body, pick a bezel, and decide whether you want a lens cap or not (I recommend it).
I have the 3-cell body with a hunter bezel and threaded lens cap. I've already taken it deer hunting, and having three selectable brightness settings is terrific! You will seldom use the brightest setting except in tactical situations. It is small, light, extremely durable, and well worth the "extra" investment (prices vary greatly depending on configuration).
One recommendation: Get a lanyard! You don't want to lose this flashlight once you get it!"

Leupold MX Modular Flashlight,November 30, 2008
By Drawlengthfrom Everett, Washington
"Last year I had to track a blood trail beginning at 2:30pm Seattle time. I got out my surefire e2e xenon bulb flashlight. I love that light; small, compact, extremely bright for a long distance. however, the battery life is 75 minutes!! the light was so much better under the heavy tree canopy than my hunting partner's led lights. (the led lights did not illuminate well due to the residual light above the heavy tree canopy). mine did. HOWEVER, I went through three battery changes by 7pm and had to quit and pick up the trail the next day. the other thing I noticed about the led lights, other than their long burn time compared to my surefire xenon, was that in the dark, they did not illuminate well for even a short distance (i.e. to look for a downed animal's eyes glowing). my quest over the last year was to find a flashlight that was small enough to justify carrying all day, bright enough to see a good distance (thirty to forty yards, with bright light.....I mean I want to see down into the woods a decent distance), bright enough to be effective even with residual daylight over a canopy of trees and had a long burn time. The Leupold MX Flashlight is definitely it. it has a six hour burn time (yes, I did test it on the kitchen counter one day). it has 80 lumens of light, compared to my surefire 60 (which is very bright as I said). The light is a farly wide beam but also reaches out my requisite distance (about 30 yards). I am extremely happy with the durability and construction. the reason for four stars, is although it uses only two 123 lithium batteries, it is twice the size and twice as heavy as the surefire e2e. I worried about that, but the actual result was I carried it in my hip pack, with only two extra batteries, for approximately the same overall weight as carrying enough backup batteries for the surefire. so it is a draw. Finally, though the picture in the catalog and on Leupold's website don't show it, the light DOES come with a belt clip attached for safe storage in a pocket. I just returned from my 10 day elk hunt and used it every evening to walk in and out of the woods and roads back to the truck. I changed batteries once. Great light."
