the best muzzle loading bullet, November 11, 2009
    By remchuck from nashville,tn

"i bought these bullets when they were on closeout last year.i wanted something other than powerbelt which gave unsatisfactory accuracy from my kinght revolution {bought from cabelas bargin cave}.i immediately had better accuracy when testing these bullets.on opening day of muzzle loading season last saturday i was fortunate enough to get a shot at a four point cull buck.at ninety-five yards the bullet went through both lungs and exited, killing the deer almost instantly.i have never had a muzzle loading bullet perform so flawlessly.i was so impressed i had to post this review.i highly recommend these bullets to anybody that is not satisfied with the performance or accuracy of their current muzzle loading bullet."

Hard to Load, Poor Accuracy, November 10, 2009
By Veteran152 from Lake Saint Louis, MO

"I was excited to try the FPB but was very disappointed that Hornady would put a bullet out like this. With a clean bore, I experienced the bullets were extremely hard to load in my TC Triumph. The bullet when pushed down the bore actually cuts the riflings into the bullet, thus hard to load. Accuracy was all over the place with two pellets of magnum thriple 7 at 100 yards compared to other sabots I have used. If you do buy these bullets I would recommend something to go over the end of your ramrod to keeping from tearing up your palm."

    FPB's, October 27, 2009
    By nepaguy from Stroudsburg PA

"Used these out of my CVA Wolf last year with 100 grains of 777 and they worked well. But not alot of expansion on the doe I shot. This year I put them in my new T/C Triumph with 150 grains of 777 and OMG! 1.5 inch group at 100 yards! Also took two deer last week and neither took another breath after the smoke cleared. I think FPB's work better moving faster out of a longer barreled gun. The only thing I don't like is the 350 grain size. If Hornady could bring them down to 250 it would be great. As for me I am shooting them out of all my guns including my flint lock. They are accurate and hard hitting! Give them a try."

    Superb performance, October 16, 2009
    By aaronhome27 from Indiana

"I have been trying to find a bullet to use in my TC Encore that was easy to load yet it would actually penetrate the game I was after. Sabots wore my palm out way to quick. Nice groups but I like to shoot more than 5 - 6 shots per session. Powerbelts loaded well but the groups were not always consistant. And if you have used them I dont have to tell you what happens when you hit big game. Then finally came the FPB bullets. After a session and zeroing in with my Encore and my Savage MLII smokeless I was VERY impressed with the accuracy. After a day at the range I headed to the field in hope of bagging a nice whitetail. Long story short, I placed a Hornady FPB in the front quarter of a 186" typical monster buck. After all of the emotions ran their course we all evaluated the buck. Upon doing so we found the slug stuck in the hide in the oposite hind quarter. MASSIVE penetration!!! All in all that had to be one of the best hunting days of my life."

"These shoot well out of both of my savage 10 ml 2 rifles .
I just have not shot any critters with them yet maybe that is soon to come , everyone says they perform well on critters. I liked the way powerbelt's fly but they don't hold up very well on critters , maybe these will.

    Great Bullet, October 8, 2009
    By IzzyH from Tennessee

"I have yet to find a gun these will not shoot well in. Two of my MLs they will shoot one hole groups at 50 yards. Sub 1in groups at 100. Some report hard to load. If you have a QLA system like on the TC or the Traditions, just take your short starter and give it a good whack to get it started. Then it will just slide down the barrel real easy. One of the best flying bullets I've shot in a long time. My only complaint about them is the price."

    There Great, September 22, 2009
    By dtille7578

"Like some at first it was hard to start in my encore but then i noticed that there was powder (Blackhorn 209) on the inside of the barrel. When I tapped the barrel and knocked all the powder down they started easy and shot superb. Me and my hunting partner filled all our tags in Colorado for the first time. They gave 1 1/2" groups @ 50 yards with 125 gr. powder @ 1950 fps. Excellent in my opinion."

    Mixed results, September 7, 2009
    By lefteye from Hatboro, Pa.

"I couldn't get it to load in my Triumph. I would've needed a steel rod and a hammer to get it down the barrel. I tried it in a Lyman Deerstalker and it grouped superbly at 50 yards with 80 grains of Black Mag. It loaded easily and consistently gave good groups. I suppse the Lyman bore must be a few thousanths bigger."

    FPB Bullet, August 18, 2009
    By LeonB from colorado

"These are great bullets. Some of the most accurate I have shot. The only downsides are 1.) they are a little hard to start and 2.) like any heavy black powder bullet they are subject to tumble if they are overloaded (try 90g T7 for Omega). You will detect signs of tumbling if your groups increase in size and the entry hole in your target becomes elongated."

MUZZLE LOADING MADE EASY, August 10, 2009
By INTBGHUNTER from NEW CASTLE CO

"THIS NEW PRODUCT MAKES RELOADING EASY,AT LEAST FOR THE FIRST THREE OR FOUR SHOTS. THEN THE BARREL GETS TOO TIGHT. THE GROUPS AT 100 YARDS ARE FAR BETTERTHAN THE PREVIOUS BRAND I WAS USING. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BULLET FOR STATES THAT DO NOT ALLOW SABOTED LOADS."

Maybe not for TC, August 9, 2009
    By cpw98 from VA

"I picked these up because I wanted to try something without a sabot or a skirt. I have a tc omega in stainless that is about 5 years old. The first one I loaded the flex tip got stuck in the ramrod and things went down hill from there. Hornady claims these are easy to load, if they are I would hate to see their idea of hard to load. I could not get better than a 5 inch group out of my omega at 100 yards using these. It seems that most of the bad reveiws are from people with Thompson Center rifles. I like the design of the bullet but it just wouldn't work for me."

    FPB Bullet's, August 9, 2009
    By Jcrowley from Colorado

"Shot great out of my Thompson Pro-Hunter with 120 grains of triple seven powder. They state in the instructions to fire one spoiler round and shooting always with a dirty barrel. I found that my rifle shoots them well from a clean cold barrel as well as the following shots without cleaning between shots. Most groups were 3" or less at 100 yrds with open sites. Would probably work great with a scoped muzzle loader. I will give another rating on bullet performance if things work out this sept. elk season."

Works in Co, August 3, 2009
    By Harleygrits from COS, Co

"I used the Hornady FPB during the 08-09 hunting season. The bullet shot great at the range and dropped two large mule deer dead in their tracks at ranges up to 60 yds.

In comparison to power-belt, the FPB were as accurate and the FPB had better penetration.

No encore needed, April 17, 2009
    By stagner from Colorado

"I was very excited to see another bullet option to use here in Colorado, however excitement turned to frustration very fast. In my rifle, a TC Encore, that is very accurate with sabots and PB's, the FPB's shot horribly. Using 777 powder from 80 to 140 grs. the best group I could get was 6". I shot around fifty rounds trying everything I could think of to get them to shoot well, to no avail. Out of the fifty shots around ten of them actually keyholed the target at 100 yrds. suggesting failure to stabilize. Also the palm of my hand was sore and bruised, and my abs were sore for a week after trying to push them down the bore. I realize that all rifles are very different on what pills they prefer, so try them before you buy a bunch. They didn't work out for me even though I do like the design and really wanted them to."

Hornady FPB Review, February 26, 2009
By blackpowderdude from Youngstown, New York

"This bullet is very accurate out of cheap little CVA Buckhorn. With 100 grains of tripple 7 pellets, It would shoot a 2 inch group at 100 yards and at 50 yards through one enlarged hole. I can't ask for any more from a full bore conicle. Only downside is that they are kind of hard to get started in the rifling. It requires a bullet starter. My old powerbelt starter with the aerotip attachment works fine. Once the bullet is started however, it slides right down. The amazing part was that the 8th round slid down as easily as the first round without even swabbing between shots. One would think that a bullet that starts out being slightly difficult to load would need a hammer on the following shots. Thats not the case with these rounds or at least with these rounds in my gun. With superior terminal ballistics as well as exterior ballistics than other full bore conicles, I don't think I will ever go back. I'm completely sold on this bullet. I can't wait to try them on deer next season. Because the bores of muzzleloader can differ greatly, the only sure thing is to try them. As with all bullets, they may shoot great from one gun and terrible in the next so the only way to be sure is to try them. If they shoot accurately then go ahead and use them. I know I will. I would deffinately recomend this product to anyone looking for a good full bore projectile for their muzzleloader."

leading up the barrel, February 20, 2009
    By believethehype from Leavenworth, IN

"I shot one of these out of my TC Encore and could not believe the amount of metal in my barrel afterwards! Took me about a half an hour to get things back to normal. I'll stick with sabots.
Reciepe Triple 7 Mag. Pellets 350 grain fpb rem cleanbore primer and missed a 4' X 4' piece of plywood at 50 yds with a gun that was sighted in already!
I think that maybe the bullet blew up in my barrel!

    dimensions & Fit, January 23, 2009
By DeerHunter45 from Washington County, New York

"Compared these to the 290 gr purple tip w/yellow sabot made by the all copper bullet manufactuer. Measured in inches:
Hornady350 FPB: Barrel free drop in depth .789, overall lenght 1.127, base dia .507 - 1/4" up from base dia .498 - 1/2" up dia .498, internal cone depth .287 internal cone dia .415. There is no plastic sabot on the Hornady.
Copper bullet w/sabot by comparison: Barrel free drop in depth .855, overall bullet lenght w/o plastic sabot 1.215, bullet dia .451, sabot base dia .498, sabot dia midway up .505.
Using a Winchester Apex rifle with a deep barrel crown.
Have not gotten to load and shoot either, but I think either will be hard to push down the barrel. I think the Hornadys will work as well as the all copper bullet - shooting will tell the story.
Hornady basicly says start with a clean bore and lubed, then step 2 run three dry patches through the barrel, 3 fire two primers, 4 load and shoot the first FPB bullet to clean protectant from bore and season it for following shots, 5 continue shooting without cleaning between shots until loading presure increases, then clean bore start over at step 2.
I question this procedure after step 4 because I ususally do not go into the woods and immediately shoot and then wait for deer. I thought with the pellet type charges you needed to clean the gun at the end of the day, so I won't leave the residue in the gun as seasoning for any lenght of time. This procedure may work well with that new blackhorn 209 powder that does not require immediate cleaning or cleaning through out the season. Looking forward to shooting both types and will post my results later.

"Shot well on paper but I've missed several deer with them to date. But that's probably because of the loose screw behind the scope. Shoot best after the barrel has been fouled by 3-4 shots."
