Tip initiates violent expansion and energy transfer
Over the years, hunting with shotgun slugs meant being satisfied with "good enough" accuracy. Such drawbacks are
now in the past. Now, your favorite 12- or 20-ga. shotgun will have accuracy to rival many centerfire rifles. The
SST™ bullet features the aerodynamic FlexTip® found on LEVERevolution® ammo, allowing these
slugs to deliver sub-2"
100-yard groups. They're also the flattest-shooting slugs on the market today. At impact, the tip initiates violent
expansion and energy transfer to the target, ensuring a swift kill. 5 rounds per box. Designed for fully rifled shotgun barrels only.

no blood trail,November 5, 2009
By Anonymousfrom lansing mi
"my dad, my brother and I have shot 10 plus deer with these slugs they shoot great. but there is like no blood trail. it kills most of the deer, but we lost a doe and a nice 8 point and a 7 point. the only reason we found the other is cause we watched them drop. shoot Winchester Supreme Platinum Tip Sabots they droped 3 deer we shot and the other 4 went 30 yrds at the most with a 2ft wide blood trail."

"I shot 15 different loads from as many differnent manufactures. This gave me the best group at max velocity out of my remington 12 gauge 870 with a hastings rifle barrel. Chronographed max was 1879 FPS. If you found better I want to know."

The real deal,October 18, 2009
By Safi
"I bought a couple of boxes last year, while the Winchester's and the Remington's were over $20 a box, the Hornady SST was almost half the cost. The Hornady delivers absolute performance with a Hastings fully rifled barrel. 2" or less groups at 150 yards. I consider this product to be the real deal, fast, acurrate and deadly."

hornaday sst sabot slugs,October 13, 2009
By trs1955from ohio
"I bought these slugs recomended by a Cabelos employer for my Remington 11-87 rifled barrel gun. I sighted it in and the same year I got an eight point buck and doe. The eight point was approx. 100 yards out and dropped immediately after hitting it in the vitals. The doe on the other hand was more different. She was approx. 175 yds. out and dropped about 75 yds. away from where she was hit just behind the lungs. I only shot 7 shells that year and 5 were to sight the gun in."

A lot of Damage,October 9, 2009
By mam34from Iowa
"I switched to these slugs last year just to try something different in my Winchester 1300 with an EO Tech mounted on top. I cannot be any happier with the accuracy of this ammunition. I must tell you if you believe that your shotgun is sighted in with other ammo, you better resight it with this ammunition before going to the field with it because it is an all together different shot.
I killed three large deer last year and during processing of the animals I discovered that this ammunition caused a great deal of internal trauma. During the penetration process, it appeared as if the rounds actually exploded inside of the animal due to the large amount of fragments located. Only in one of the deer above did the ammunition completely go through the animal (close shot, about 20 yards)."

Unreal,September 25, 2009
By falchuntfrom NW OHIO
"I have shot a little bit of everything out of my Mossberg 500 20 g shotgun. I liked Brenneke's, buckhammers, whatever. But None of those really IMPRESSED me like the SST's. I killed a doe from 170 yards away, split her heart literally in two. The accuracy of this slug will not be matched by anyone, and the slug retention is pretty good as well. Expansion is nothing to brag about, but with the accuracy that these slugs provide, you don't need a lot of expansion."

Shot Placement...,September 23, 2009
By MSDTMarkfrom NE Indiana
"I witnessed my nephew drop two nice whitetails in their tracks with the Hornady SST slugs last year. I decided to purchase them this year, my Mossberg 500 loves them and cuts the same hole at 100 yards. I am confident that if I hit the kill area the animal is down for good. I’d eat a gut pile if it didn’t drop. If I place a bad shot on the animal shame on me it's not the slugs fault…"

First deer of the season September 09,September 15, 2009
By outrider06from Portland,Oregon
"Early season shotgun only on Oregon's Williamette River deer hunt..I loaned my hunting buddy a box of sst 12 gauge plus two to check zero in a Remington 870 cantilever "DEER GUN"...Using drives on the river banks and small islands and fingers in river a medium sized Forked horn (6pt Eastern)Blacktail buck was busted up and on a dead run when hit in the front chest at 60 yards stopping the deer in it's tracks, the buck was dead before it hit the ground.....Impressed to say the least,I'm a big fan of the Remington "Buck Hammer" slugs but was really curious about the SSTs after seeing what this round can do I'm a believer.."

Great Accuracy Poor Performance,August 25, 2009
By darchellfrom NJ
"I purchased these slugs based on the reviews I saw here. I am very impressed with the accuracy. I have shot 3 deer with these from 7 yards to 205 yards. A buddy of mine is also shooting these, he has a 20 gauge I am using a 12. He has also shot three deer. We have farmer tags so we can shoot deer this time of year. We figured this would be a good test. The slugs are very accurate however they do little damage when hit. The deer I killed at 205 yards was hit quartering away. Hit in the rib cage and exited just behind the shoulder. Deer went approximately 100 yards no blood loss. The holes were identical to the slug diameter. I shot a deer at about 20 yards and the slug splashed on the spine leaving a nasty flesh wound, this slug did not exit the other side of the spine, dropping the deer due to the damage to the spine however it needed a second shot to put it down. This was at approximately 7 yards through the shoulders and again no expansion. Shot another one at 100 yards or so and it ran in circles then left. No blood and never recovered. My buddy had similar experiences but worse off never recovered any of the deer. If you are shooting targets they are awesome slugs. If you want to kill something you would do nearly as much damage as a field point on an arrow."

Great slugs,August 6, 2009
By Akamefrom Texas
"I have a Mossberg 930 and it has great accuracy. I love this ammo. They aren't for all guns and I know cause they don't work well in my Remmington 870 but the mossberg has a great 2 inch group at 100 yards and i would recommend this ammo to people with moss 930's and not rem 870's"

Hornady SST Sabot Slugs,July 30, 2009
By Rbrt
"I bought two boxes of these after reading the reviews to sight in my Remington 870 Express Magnum 20 gauge with a fully rifled barrel and Nikon Slughunter scope with BDC reticle. The best I could tell, these rounds tumbled out of my gun because they were all over my target and were just tearing the paper instead of punching holes at 100 yds, when they did hit the paper. The Hornady SST rounds may shoot fine in other guns, but they did not like my gun at all. I then shot the Remington Buckhammers 1 oz slugs from my gun, and they worked perfect, shooting 2 inch groups at 100 yards, and punched perfect holes in the target."

Hornaday SST Slugs,July 17, 2009
By deermanctfrom Connecticut
"Have been shooting these slugs for 2 seasons and took a fine 8 pointer in 07 and a 5 pointer in 08. Shot both deer under 20 yards. Neither animal went very far after the shot. I had used Winchester Slugs for many years, but I think these are more flatter shooting, which I think is important while hunting in the thick eastern forests like we have here in Connecticut."
