Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip,October 27, 2009
By jasonxxxxxxxfrom Nebraska
"DO NOT use this ammo for Caribou or smaller game!! This bullet is a solid copper bullet with a hard polymer tip. It WILL NOT provide efficient game killing energy transfer, or trauma wound channels unless you hit solid bone or very dense muscle tissue. Use for Elk, Moose, Bear, African Plains Game. We took a box of 30-06 165gr. and 180gr. up to Alaska Aug. 09' for our Caribou hunt..."

Great Performance!,October 21, 2009
By kozkozkozfrom Ottawa, Canada
"I used this bullet in 30-06 for my moose hunt in Ontario. I'm giving it 4 stars because I fired twice and dropped the moose. While quartering it, I found a bullet near the shoulder blade. It was expanded nice and seemed to maintain all its weight, but did not penetrate deep at all. It was a broad side shot and must have hit bone and deflected. The other shot was a clean pass through and produced an awesone exit hole with lots of blood."

Gets it done!,October 13, 2009
By 1shotdropfrom Alberta, Canada
"I have used this round in both my Winchester Model 70 in .308 and my Remington Model 700 in .300 Win Mag. In both calibers this bullet has performed exceptionally well. I have killed numerous Elk, Moose, and Caribou with the .300 Win Mag and all were one shot kills. With the .308 I have taken twenty-two Whitetails and Mule Deer with twenty-two shots. I would reccomend this round in any caliber."

Pure Stopping Power,October 8, 2009
By maritimedogfrom Maine
"I recently switched to this ammo in 30-06 180gr. for a moose hunting trip here in Maine. Let's just say my freezer is now full. I was highly impressed with the stopping power of this round. Litteraly dropped a 615 pound bull moose in his tracks with one shot at 75 yards. I mean he went down like a brick not one single step was taken. Made retreaval much easyer not having to chase him down too. I can't wait to use them on deer."

.300 WSM Trophy Bonded Tip Ammo,October 1, 2009
By 468Topperfrom Gibbonsville,Idaho
"I have a very finicky Winchester Model 70 Ultimate Shadow camo .300 WSM rifle. After testing a dozen or so handloads I fired some of the original Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw ammo and got a sub-moa group. This year I was looking for a round with a higher b.c. bullet and decided to try the Trophy Bonded Tip ammo. I purchased a box at the Cabela's store in Billings, Montana. After one fouling shot I fired three rounds at 100 yards from a sturdy bench set-up. Two shots were touching and the third was nearly touching. The group is approximately .60 inch. I spoke with the ballistics techs at Federal to learn the b.c. on the bullet is .500. I am retired and live in the mountains of Idaho. I expect to be able to test this round during our elk season as well as in Colorado. I expect this round to perform as well as or better than my experience with the original TBBC performance on elk in a .300 Weatherby magnum handload. I had the privilege of knowing Jack Carter and I believe he would be pleased with the advancements in his original bullet design. At this point my evaluation is based on exceptional accuracy coupled with my confidence in the technical staff at Federal."

Nice Idea...,September 7, 2009
By JaimeInWAfrom NW WA
"Good marketing on this cartridge but...
I bought these last year in .300 WBY. MAG. for Elk. They grouped well on paper for sighting in but I found that three of the tips had broken off and ended up in my magazine. The neon-translucent tips are a very "gimmicky" and cheap, (remember those Light-Bright toys with the plastic pegs? Similar!) In my opinion they're are not up to the task of repeated loading and unloading of actual hunting. What might have happened had a tip broken off and wedged between the bullet and bore upon chambering and I fired it? Granted, I may have received a bad lot or a dropped box, who knows?
I gave two stars because they did group well and I'm sure they're punishing on vascular tissue and thick bone. I'm also positive the Light-Bright tips have very little to do with that.
***for the record, I contacted the manufacturer and told them my experience and questioned the LOT as a potential issue but I never heard back. Probably thought I wanted a free box or something***"

1-Gallon, Water-Filled Plastic Jugs,April 11, 2009
By SmithOregonfrom Medford, Oregon
"After harvesting a black bear and finding bullet fragments in the meat (yes, it may have been one of a hundred bears with good, non-greasy meat) I decided to test my bullets by shooting through "1-Gallon, Water-Filled Plastic Jugs". (Yes. This is A LOT of fun and better than a week's vacation in Hawaii.):
Range: 100 yards.
Target/Testing Material: Six, 1-Gallon, Water-Filled Plastic Jugs in line with the shot (you could see one jug when shooting, the additional five being in a direct line behind the front jug).
.308 caliber. 180 grains.
Result: Penetrated but did not exit six (6!) 1-Gallon, Water-Filled Plastic Jugs; the bullet remained intact; front third mushroomed. Beautiful performance and power.
Accuracy: I could consistently get three-shot groups touching at 100 yards from a rest, 24", heavy barrel.
Now, a couple comparisons might make you appreciate how very good the above performance is.
Comparisons:
The U.S. Army Sniper Round (manufactured by American Ballistics) .308, 175 grain. bullet penetrates but did not exit five jugs, but there is complete jacket separation.
Bulk Ammo "Ultramax" 165 (?) grain, penetrated but did not exit three 1-Gallon, Water-Filled Plastic Jugs; front half mushroomed beautifully; no jacket separation.
"Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip Rifle Ammunition" is just one of those top-of-the-line, go-to ammos when everything matters: accuracy, terminal performance in either soft or hard material (light game or heavy game). Its name matches its usage."

Excellent Performance!,February 19, 2009
By BEMcGfrom North Texas
"Used the 180 gr. Trophy Bonded Tip in my Browning X-Bolt .300wsm for a recent hunt in south Texas. At the range, the ammo grouped approx. 3/4". While hunting I managed to stalk a large Nilgai antelope bull to a range of 130 yds. and take a slighty quartering towards me shot on the front shoulder. the round entered the front of the shoulder, transversed the chest and came to rest under the hide behind the opposite shoulder. The bull dropped instantly. He weighed 653 lbs. I found that the bullet had expanded while going thru the 1/2" hide, the entrance wound in muscle was about the size of a golf ball and the wound channel thru the chest was about as big as a baseball. The bullet mushroomed perfectly, and the lower base stayed intact. The retained bullet weight was 159 grs. I found that the bullet performance on hogs was just as good; quick mushroom, big wound channel and a large exit on 80-120 pound animals."

remingtonn 700xcr 270wsm,December 19, 2008
By nick20from Erie, PA
"i just bought the gun and didnt know what i was gonna shoot out of it. i saw all the reviews from cabelas and decided this is what i wanted to shoot. i ordered 5 boxes. didnt even take 5 rounds to sight in at 100 yards. i was amazed. then i shot for groups from my caldwell lead sled. i shot a 5 shot group at 100 yards. all 5 bullets were within a 3/4 inch group. i took them out opening day of pennsylvania's rifle seaon. i finally caught a nice buck moving through some brush. i ranged the shot at 120 yards. the bullet went right ware i aimed. the deer went 20 yards. when cleaning him out the bullet took both lungs and his heart out and had a nice exit hole. i love this ammo and this is all im going to shoot out of any of my rifles from now on. i love this ammo!"

No exit hole,December 17, 2008
By Thunderhead67from Louisiana
"I am very disgusted with this product. I am a Federal Premium fan through and through but this is one round I'll never shoot again. I shot a 145 lb deer and a 216 lb deer and neither bullet exited the opposite side. No Blood Trail! Luckily I found both deer. One was hit perfectly behind the shoulder and the other at the base of the neck. Both were shot at less than 75 yards. I'm going back to "old reliable", the Nosler Partition."

Extreme knockdown power,December 8, 2008
By jfleming8741from Western Pennsylvania
"I just harvested my first Pennsylvania whitetail buck with this load and I was really impressed with the tremendous knockdown power of this bullet. The deer collapsed in a heap at the crack of the gun. Also produced a very tight 1/2 in group at 100 yds during sighting in process. I will continue to use this ammunition in my 30-06 for future hunts and would certainly recommend it highly."

Federal Trophy Tip,December 8, 2008
By Cdubyafrom Colorado
"OK, I admit it. I bought this product for the cool-looking coating and I was not disappointed. What I didn't expect was the accuracy from the bear claw platform as these inherently were not an accurate bullet, although they are known for their ability to hold together.
I would hope that Speer makes available the bullets for handloaders as these are prime components. Cabelas, as always, is unbeatable for service and information."
