"I purchased these prior to duck season this year in order to communicate with another blind that is no farther than 1 mile away from mine. The terrain is flat (as it is all water) thus the ability for the radio waves to get there and be received would seem to be ideal. 90% of the time we were unable to communicate, at times one party could receive transmissions from the other party but the other party could not. We transmitted on both the high and the low power settings. I plan on returning these for credit, I hope that Cabela's honors this request."

"I have to say that I usually love Motorola products,but this one left me quite dissapointed.The range is definately NOT what it is advertised to be wheather you use the extended range button or regular to save your batteries.I have an old set(4 year old technology) pair of another brand and they do everything that this set does and more.The old set has never failed me,and these new Motorola's have once already.I WAS NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE with my hunting companion.The weather was clear,and no wind,and he was only 200 yards max. from me in the woods while I was in the clear. Back to the old hand held set without the conveinience of the ear mounted microphone!!"

"I used this Motorola T9650 which states 28 mile range. I could not comunicate even one mile on flat land and it was even worse comunicating on the side of a mountain whle hunting. In case of an emergency this radio was usless even at half mile."

"I purchased these to replace my old Motorolas with somethng newer. By comparision I much prefer my old ones. The sound quality is better in my opinion and doesn't have that 'tinny' cheap speaker sound. The range doesn't seems as strong either in the real world. All in all not impressed, think I"ll do some searching around for better ones, keeping in mind you really do get what you pay for."

"We first tried these at our house with the other person driving a mile or so down the road. Standing outside of the vehicle and with the other radio in the front yard we had no luck. We thought maybe it is something unique because of trees so we both drove out to a virtually straight road. With each of us standing outside of the vehicle we barely had reception at 1 1/2 miles. We tries both FRS and GMRS channels to no avail. I hope Cabelas will take these back thay do not perform at an acceptable range."
