Ruffwear Approach Pack,August 11, 2009
By maxbusfrom ontario Canada
"We used this pack to do some heavy duty back packing with our dog (60 k in three days in the northern bush) The dog took his own food and meds. in the pack. The pack sat well there was no chaffing or discomfort evident with the dog. One con the pack is not waterproof so if your dog jumps into a beaver pond the food will get damp."

best quality adventurewear,June 16, 2009
By frickletfrom hawaii
"My dog licked my face with gusto after I bought her this backpack. All my animals have jobs and she likes to carry her own water and food when we go out for hikes. When she has her own backpack I am more likely to put things in it for her that I just could not carry if it were me doing all the toting. Her gratitude was obvious and enthusiastic when she saw the quality of her backpack. She literally leapt around the room. I look forward to years of happy trekking while she carries her own food, water, dish(es) and memorabilia of our hikes... Money well spent."

Great Product for my Border Collie on runs!,June 15, 2009
By nathanb131from Sioux City, IA
"I got this pack to have my dog carry the water when we go out on runs together. It has exceeded my expectations. It's a great accessory carrier for dog activities. It stores his p00p bags, leash, treats, and his frisbee which is also the water bowl. So when we are heading anywhere I'll grab this as a bag whether he's going to wear it or not. Since we always run together I'll also stow my mp3, headphones, and gps in there. He also now carries the car keys, wallet, and my cell phone which is something I couldn't do on runs before.
He definitely likes to wear it and it fits him perfectly. He's about 50lbs and I got the small one. He's only a year old and he's got plenty of room to grow into it. Make sure you go by the size chart, I consider him a medium dog but the medium pack would have been too big. The big handle is great if you need to get close control of your dog in a pinch. We often run without a leash when away from people so it's nice to be able to grab the handle when coming upon another dog or people who are afraid of dogs.
I also purchased a leash that attaches to your waist. I selected the Buddy System with a lunge control bungee. The combination of this pack and that waist leash has made running with my dog even better! He acts like he's 'on duty' when wearing that pack and is attached to me so he stays out front and pulls me gently along and doesn't get distracted as often as before. When running, pulling on your waist is great, pulling on your hand is annoying.
The pack has a lot of chest and belly padding so he likes to pull with it. I also use this pack empty instead of his regular harness just because of all the padding when I want to go for a fast run with his help! I like to race 5k's, and if it were legal to run with him pulling me by the waist like that, we'd win every one! It's fun to go faster with less effort, and your dog will feel like he's earning his keep, which is especially important for Border Collies.
Item is well built and worth every penny. I never put much water in there when on a run because that would be too hard on his joints. For a hike, they'll like the challenge of a load though! I also always make sure both sides are balanced so I use two water bottles and use them up equally during our runs. That works well, he's weighed down with water at the start to slow him a bit and the water is gone towards the end so it helps even out our pace."

"Got the Ruffwear Approach Pac Dog Pack for our girl border collie. She loves it and as she grows stronger she will be able to carry her own provisions on our treks. The adjustable fit is just great. The dog pack rides snug against her body."

Great approach pack,August 11, 2008
By germanshepherdlover1from Boca Raton FL
"This is a fantastic pack. My shepherd is 120 lbs so I got the extra large. He carries his own water and training treats along when we go "work out". Fits great-he loves it and it stays balanced. If you have a working breed you must use this pack!"
