MERINO HEAVYWEIGHT WOOL TOPS AND BOTTOMS,January 21, 2009
By MRE73from Waterville, IA
"I wear wool for every layer when I hunt and am always trying new products. I had great hopes for this wool product but was somewhat disappointed. It is slightly scratchy against the skin. Not terribly uncomfortable but not comfortable either. Cabela's silk/wool combination is very comfortable against the skin, but shrink.
I would call these a midweight garment rather than heavyweight.
They are very warm and perform like all good wool products.
However, the main reason for the lower score is that they shrink with washing. I'm careful to hand wash in cold water and hang dry after stretching them. But they still shrink enough that after several washings I now have a size smaller than purchased. I expect they will continue to shrink until they don't fit.
If you wear a silk liner underneath to eliminate any scratchiness, buy a size larger, and don't wash them very often, they will work great keeping you warm and dry. Wool is king."

"This is the first set of long underwear that has literally allowed me to wear one less bulky layer to keep warm. The Merino wool is relatively light and doesn't feel "itchy" like lesser wools."
"They call these the warmest long johns you will wear. They are not the warmest. I have worn much warmer ones. The heavy weight is what I would call a medium weight. They are good quality but they are not that warm. They are thin enough that you can see through them."
Merino Wool it shuld be called Maine-rino wool,December 3, 2008

"These Merino wool pants are comfortable and very warm. Hunting whitetail in Maine in November and December can be bone chiling but a layer of Merion wool certainly helps."

"I have reserved these pants for very cold, below 0 occasions. The cuffs that go around the ankle are very tight. These pants do what they are supposed to do, I just feel the fit is not that good."
