GORE-TEX FOWLER CAP,
August 24, 2009
By JimCan2

"I bought the Cabela's Gore-Tex Fowler Cap with Thinsulate in New Mossy Oak Breakup to wear over the Cabela's Sent-Lok Legacy Fleece Cuff Cap in New Mossy Oak Break Up. I plan to use this combination of headwear to deer hunt in extreme cold and damp weather. Both caps are well made. I like the tight and low profile fit of the cuff cap in scent-Lok. I will wear the cuff cap by itself in early season, early morning bowhunting and then double up the caps for winter bow. The fowler cap is also very well made and it has a little stretch band in the back of the cap. I found the fowler cap to run a little big, even though I'll be wearing it over the cuff cap. However it can be adjusted by pulling it tighter through the double rings.
I'm anxiously looking forward for my season to start so I can try out the new headgear!"

nice hat,
August 19, 2009

"i love it! supper warm for those cold and foggy San Francisco summer afternoons. Believe it or not August in San Francisco means you bring out your coat, scarf, and hat.
I am looking forward to using it for snowboarding this winter.
the only reason i gave it 4 not 5 is the straps are a bit hard to work with. Velcro or a snap would have been good. other then that it is perfect."

Great Hat,
March 17, 2009
By TheRook
from St. Louis, MO

"Purchased this hat for this past year's duck season. Great buy!!! It kept my head warm and also my ears when it was needed. The bill is small enough to not warrant much head movement when calling 'em in, but long enough to shade your eyes on the blue bird days. The D-rings are small, but once you have the hat on I found it quite easy to adjust to the three different positions. This is the hat I will buy my kids when they're old enough to be in the blind with me."

A classic design,
February 26, 2009

"I looked long and hard for a 'ski-patrol' cap for sub-zero (deg C) use in Poland and this one proved ideal. The peak is not too long but provides good protection for spectacle wearers in snow storms. The Thinsulate lining makes it pleasantly warm and the Gore-Tex lining breathes sufficiently for normal use. When snow-shoeing hard in the mountains, it did run with sweat but the drips off the peak fell clear of my glasses, although they did eventually steam up under these circumstances.
I only once needed to unfold the earflaps completely but usually wore them pulled down a fraction to cover the tops of my ears, which this design allows for quite easily.
The XL size was a tad large for my 59/60 cm head but I folded and glued down the left-hand strap to take up the excess and this works fine provided I pull the strap down to the peak when I put the hat on. In this regard, I would prefer the front to have a more vertical shape on the grounds of style and to stop the flap strap riding up.
The Mossy Oak Duck Blind cam was better than I expected in snowy woods but I'd have preferred a Realtree AP HD option. Dare we hope for an unlined 3-season version?"

Not worth the money,

By canoe

"I once has a hunting hat with the same type ear flaps. The prolem are the same. The flaps will not stay in place. I had to install snaps on the sides and back however, the front "D" rings and strap flops up and down and must be reajusted evetime time the hat is removed which makes the hat uncomfortable."

D-Rings,

"The d-rings on the chin strap seem to be more for show than use. I had about 1 1/2" of velcro sewn on to the chin strap (removed the d-rings) , and that worked out well. Other than that I`m pleased with the cap."

Fowler Cap,

"Extremely warm. Be careful when ordering size. The hat is not quite 'snug' fitting. I guessed and ordered a large after reading that they run a bit small. I disagree and would advise the hats do not run small at all."

"The poor rating is due to the very small "D" rings used to secure the chin strap. Was very hard to use with bare finger's much less with gloves on. Maybe a Velcro tab or such..."
