This is the best stand I have ever owned!,November 13, 2009
By PeteGfrom Canton, GA
"This is the best stand I have ever owned! If you don't want or need to sit in a La-Z-Boy attached to a tree, this stand is for you.
It has all the advantages that a lock-on stand has for bow hunting. There are no arm rests in the way, the seat is comfortable and flips up, and it is rock solid on the tree. At 15 pounds anyone can carry it to the deepest honey hole.
The only thing needed are two removable hand grips on the top half to make climbing a little easier."

Nice stand but...,October 29, 2009
By Packersrgr8from Wisconsin
"I bought this stand for the portability and ease of use. The stand is pretty good for backing but could use something to prevent the straps from sliding around on the rails. Setup is easy but not the quietest unless you do it painstakenly slow. The stirrups and strap to keep your feet in place do a good job for ascending and decending. Once in the tree the platform seems a little small but is quiet and comfortable enough for shorter hunts. The stand holds very well on to the tree which is assuring. The seat is comfortable also but moves easily when lifting the cushion against the tree. The seat seems like it might be a little too large. I have had the seat fall when doing this several times. I have learned to ensure the strap around the tree is high enough and hold the seat frame while lifting up against the tree. Also when leaning against the seat in the up position, the seat may move and or fall. I am 5' 10" and 200 pounds and other than a bit small platform and issues with the seat I find this to be a pretty decent climber. I enjoy my hang-on stand for longer hunts but for portability and getting in the tree quickly this is a nice stand."

"i bought the openshot about 3 years ago and fell in love with it. I wouldnt buy any other stand if your a bow hunter i just wish there was padding on the arms and it takes some muscle to get up the tree. but its a great stand"

Great stand...needs a few improvements though,September 29, 2009
By HuntmasterJimfrom Montrose, PA
"I really love this stand because it is light weight, extremely portable, and solid, but there are a few things I would change to improve it even more. First, the forearms need some padding which is an easy fix with some pipe insulation and zip ties. Second, the seat cushion is not solidly fixed to the seat frame and slides around a lot...I'm still working on a fix for this. Third, the fastening device for the back pack straps is difficult to function properly with cold hands. Fourth, the stand is definitely not designed for a large frame person. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs, and it's a comfortable stand for me, but I can't imagine it would be as comfortable for someone with a larger body frame. Only 4 stars due to the need for some improvements, but don't be discouraged from buying because it's a solid stand and I would recommend it to anyone."

Summit Open Shot,September 21, 2009
By papi101from NH
"Decent stand for the small & nimble but not a lazy boy. I personally like the smaller type stand that allows me to shoot left and right while in stand without interference from arm rests. This thing doesn't come assembled (Summits gettin cheap) and mine was missing the backpack strap so I can't even use it yet unless I want to carry it with my hands. Kinda a joke when you spend that much on a stand to be missing parts and have to put together but all said and done its a nice stand."

Awsome!!!!!,August 31, 2009
By buckslayer69from mn
"Well after purchasing 3 other climbing stands and not being satisfied with them (including an overpriced LW) i finally found the perfect stand. This thing is rock solid to the tree it's so light you can pack it in miles. it's surprisingly comfortable considering how compact it is. Bottom line if you are looking for a lightweight and comfortable climber that is safe and makes you feel secure 20 feet in the air this is the stand to buy. Just Awsome!!"

small platform,August 18, 2009
By buckistudfrom Circleville, ohio
"My only knock on this stand is the small platform. I am 6'2" though so I should have expected this. I have plenty of room to draw my bow, its when I am sitting the stand seems small. Half my feet hang over the platform while seated. If i had it to do over agin I would have bought the 'Bushmaster'."

Great Compact Stand,August 3, 2009
By HunterP75from St. Louis MO
"This stand is great if you want a light compact climber. If you like to get back deep into the woods, this one is for you. I would not recommend it for a stand you hunt often, get a ladder or a hang-on stand and leave it locked on the tree. The greatest feature this one has is the fip-up seat. I had trouble finding a climber that the seat flips up. This allows you to stand up and conceal yourself against the tree. Any climber is limited to the diameter of tree you can use. The closer you can get your body to the tree the less likely you will get noticed, especially when you are trying to come to full draw. Also, this stand is Ideal for a bowhunter (95% OF MY TIME HUNTING), I don't think you would like this one if you carry a gun."

"excellent stand. i hunt big woods so weight and portability are a factor. the only thing about the stand i did not like was its a little hard on the forearms climbing and descending. will have to add some paddingm. overall a very quiet and stable stand."

Summit OpenShot Deluxe Treestand,December 27, 2008
By Thundercloudfrom Brandon, MS
"Stand is light weight, easy to transport and manuever in the woods, easy to set up and take down, comfortable and fairly roomy. climbs and holds to tree well (a great safety feature). Would like about 3" more foot room, but would have to sacrafice weight. Paint chips off of stand easily exposing raw metal which is only weakenss I have found in the stand. I use the stand for both archery and gun hunting. Stand size may be an issue for a large size person. I am a small person only weighing 145 lbs."

could be better,December 8, 2008
By roxbury
"it is not as easy as my loggy bayou for set up. with a little more use i will get used to it. i do not like how easy the seat can be bumped loose. it seems to move alot when your sitting on it and you want to change your position it wants to shift also and that gets your attention at 20 feet in the air. but with more use i will figure out how to make it work better for me. after 10 plus years with my loggy change is hard. good quality plus light weight and quiet climbing, just a learning curve on my part."

best climber,November 29, 2008
By jp16
"i believe this stand is the best climber there is its light, quiet, cheap.I love the new seat the older openshots didnt lift up so there waas less foot room when you were standing. It's not noticeable to deer if you go up high enough.I go any where between 25 to 35 feet up in a tree and at no less then 30 feet i have never been busted by a deer yet i've shot 9 deer with this stand.I hunt 4-5 or more times a week so i have seen alot a deer with this stand. The foot stirrups are awesome.\ Advice i would give is to spray paint it camo and leave it outside for a month to get the smell off of it and put some of the black pipe foam on the aluminum next to the seat its alot more comfortable climbing. Good stand for a BOWHUNTER!!!!!!!"

noisy set-up,good in tree,November 23, 2008
By freebornmanfrom Milford,Ct
"Impossible to get set -up on tree quietly, especially in the dark.Somewhat uncomfortable to climb with.Despite light weight it does not backpack well.Solid and comfortable once positioned.Sling seat is comfortable, but hinders turning to sides. My buddy uses a Lone Wolf which is silent and backpacks much better."

Great Lightweight Climber,October 28, 2008
By RefRReefrom Lafayette, IN
"Great climber, light weight and easy to carry. I've packed it for several miles. Easy to use and fairly quiet to set up. It's not as comfortable as some climbers but the added conveniece is worth it. Only drawback, I can't seem to find a way to pack it so it remains totally silent when you walk. If I could I'd give it 5 stars."

Seat glows in the dark to deer,October 24, 2008
By Slapshotfrom Bel Air , MD
"If Summitt would use seat material without UV brighteners this would be a great stand . As it is now it is useless for hunting in low lite conditions when deer can see the seat as a blue glowing lite . Get a UV bulb and check it out . I had to find a replacement seat from another mfg to make the stand acceptable . I emailed Summitt concerning the problem but they don't seem interested in fixing the issue . Even though I like the stand I will no longer use Summitt stands because of the UV hot fabrics they use ."

Tactical Treestand,October 18, 2008
By badvibesfrom Michigan
"When getting ready to pack out to the woods for a hunt I always see a bit of jealousy from my buddies. When comparing this climbing stand to theirs, it is lighter, quieter, more portable, and sets up easier. Yet, it is still a very solid stand. This stand is welded together and has no bolts. Quick, easy, and sturdy. A bowhunter could not ask for more."

Great stand,October 6, 2008
By RJQJRfrom Mechanicsville, Md.
"I've used this stand enough to find out what I like and don't like about it. I've been using climbing tree stands since Baker came out with the first one's and have been on a quest to find " The Perfect Climbing Stand " ever since. I'll have to say that I haven't found it yet but the Summit Open Shot is close, in my opinion. What I like about it is as follows - It's lightweight, it packs and unpacks easily, the foot holding system holds your feet securely to the platform while climbing up and down the tree ( this is a problem with many of the other climbers I've owned ), the seat is comfortable and the fold up design allows you to stand against the tree for better concealment, the OPEN SHOT design gives you plenty of room for the bottom limb of your bow when shooting, which can be a problem with some climbers, especially if your shooting a longbow or recurve. The only thing I would change is as follows - I'd make the platform at least 4 inches longer to give you a little more standing room when the seat is in the down position. It would add a little weight but I think the trade-off would be worth it. Theirs only about 10 inches to stand on when the seat is in the down position, so you have to be careful when you turn around or reposition your feet when your standing. A little more room would make it feel safer. All things considered, it's the best climber I've ever owned and I would recommend it to anyone. One other thing that I've learned over the years is that it's amazing how much better any climbing stand works when your IN SHAPE."

summit open shot deluxe,October 5, 2008
By Vinnfrom Martinsburg, PA.
"As with all Summit stands very well built. Comfortable seat nicely folds up out of way,and light to carry, which is main reason bought. Why I gave 4 stars is it can be hard on the forearms climbing, cured this by camo taping pipe insulation to each side of seat piece."
