Feel like I'm a hostage...,
October 25, 2009
By BillTell593

|
"I thought this would be a great rest. Liked the design theory very much. I shot less than 1000 arrows through it, and the bottom brush just disintegrated. I went to change the brush, but found the guy who set up my bow tightened them so much, the hex key just stripped the screw head. Tried brush no. 2, same thing. The rest is useless, and I'm sending it back to the company. I'm buying a biscuit."

Bad Move,
October 18, 2009
By Nonamer

"Don't waste you're money on this thing.. No matter how/who tunes you're set up this thing is trashed in no time. Looks good and by all rights should work great, but doesn't. Have been through multi-paper tunes I'm shooting a new Admiral and going back to the bisket. The way you load an arrow from the top is funky....carfull not to whack it off you're sight and spook a trophy off. Would not tell anyone about this other than it's a waste of money."

Great Idea But Very Poor Brushes,
October 9, 2009
By KermitFrog

"The style of this rest appealed to me because I used to have the Wisker Biscuit and was tired of it tearing up my fletchings. This seemed to be a perfect replacement/upgrade. However, I bought this rest about a month and a half ago and I am now on my 4th set of replacement brushes. I don't think I shoot excessively to the point this should be happening and a little web research showed this is a common problem. Bowtech's (who makes the Octane products) answer was that if the rest is wearing this quickly, then the bow is out of tune. I have gotten my Bowtech Sentinel paper tuned numerous times, but by the time you get to that point you have to replace the brushes and so the process starts all over again. I bought my daughter a Diamond Razors Edge and it came with the regular Octane Hostage rest with full length black brushes. Her's is holding up better but she doesn't yet shoot alot because this is her first bow. If you don't mind the constant brush replacement (and subsequent retuning of your bow) then this rest might work for you. I liked the concept of the rest so much that I thought I could live with it and purchased 5 packs of replacement brushes. Turns out, I don't like it that much. I am replacing this rest with a QAD Ultra-Rest HD Pro from Cabelas. Even my old Wisker Biscuit was a better rest than this, spend your money on something else. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I liked the concept so much."

stock up,

"I bought this rest two weeks ago, and the bottm bushing already worn out. I shoot about 36 arrows daily, at about $10.00 for replacement bushings, this could get expensive. I have not yet lost my bottom screw, but don't want to in the middle of a hunt. Until they can improve on this rest i'm taking my back."

Brushes are frustrating,
September 1, 2009
By BarryfromOhio
|
"I have used the Octane Hostage Pro for a year now and my biggest frustration is that the bottom brush keeps falling off while shooting. The screw that holds the brush is to short and even though I regularly tighten it it will still fall off. The allen head is so small that I am afraid to to use loctite because it would likely break the small allen wrench that has to be used to remove the brush. I thought I was doing something wrong so I had a bow technician replace the brushes and one fell off within a week!"

Great product,
August 31, 2009
By MartyJ85

"I have had a hostage rest on my bow for 3 years now. I have thrown over 2000 arrows through it. I have read the reviews and people complaining that the brushes wear out. That is true its the laws of physics that when two objects rub on each other it creates friction. That's why there's lubricating oil in ball-bearings. I am just now replacing the brushes on my rest. the brushes actually look like they have been melted more than anything else. If you have your knocks turned correctly on your arrows the vanes will not hit and will last you a while. If you are looking at a whisker bisket forget it. They will tear your vanes or feathers up and there's a reason that they also have replacement brushes."

Great Rest,
August 27, 2009
By TikkaTerry
from Golden Meadow, La.
|
"This is the best rest I've used so far. Within 6 shots it was paper tuned and now with around 700 shots through it the brushes are still good. I used to shoot an ultra rest pro and a whisker biscuit but this is a better and easier rest to use and you don't have to replace your vanes every other day as with the whisker biscuit. A+"

Awsome Rest,
July 2, 2009
By MarineHunter32

"I think the reason alot of peeps are having trouble with the bristle wear is poor tuning.......Coming from someone who shoots ALOT.. I havent seen the slightest damage in the bristles. If you dont want to rely on a mechanical rest with its mechanical disfunction. I think this is a bomber rest!!! Thanks Cabelas Semper Fi"

"I've read where many people have had problems with the brushes wearing out. I've not experienced the brush wear. I've shot hundreds of arrows very accurately with no vane damage. Brushes last if bow is tuned properly after installation of the rest."

Good Secure rest for the $$,
April 8, 2009
By johnpatrick

"Overall a good rest for the money. Holds the arrow secure while not interfering with the fletching. After tuning it in I was hitting consistent 3" bulls from 20 & 40 yards with my Diamond Black ice. The rest isn't 100% silent however, there is a slight "thwack" on release. But heck, it isn't a drop away. This is why I am returning it and upgrading to a QAD Ultra-Rest HD Pro Series drop away rest."

"Good rest IF you are 0-0. Brushes don't wear out as much as some say. I've shot over five hundred arrows through my rest (so far) and all my vanes are in tact and haven't replaced a brush yet. In fact, the brushes still look new. Sturdy and great for field nocking. Only deficiency is the brushes don't quite adjust to smaller diameter arrows (the fit is not as snug as you would like it to be)."
