"Got the 2 step version....piece was broken on the step part....called the "warranty" telephone number ....said I had to ups the part back to them at my expense and they would see if they can fix it.....didn't seem to care when I told him that I would be returning it to Cabela's for a refund.....won't be buying this junk again....will get something else at Cabela"

"I am an older guy with bad hips and knees, so my wife purchased the step for Easter instead of chocolate. The step works wonderfully but most of todays trucks have plastic tailgate liners which is not mentionned in the instructions. Something else I have encountered is my tonneau cover does not close because of the step interference, I have to remove the step every time I want to close my cover. I am grateful there is a quick release knob to remove it."

"The Step Gate does what is advertised. It is easy to install, although I added more screws to assure safety. I also added non-skid tape to the step and to the handhold to prevent slippage and give a more secure grip on the handle. Complaints about the finish have evidently been answered with what appears to be a durable finish. I recommend the Step Gate for any other old guy with a pickup bed too high to reach into from the ground."

"The product is not very sturdy when stepped on, and the step bends to the outside due to the off center mounting of the step to the frame. This is under the weight of a 185 lb. man. The step also does not come down very far, not even clearing the bottom of the bumper. This doesn't help much, when the whole reason for purchasing the product was to help an unstoppable 70 year old man get into his truck bed. I'm only 43, and even I have trouble getting my foot up that high. This product was a good idea that should have been developed and tested before being released. Even a kid could have seen the flaws and fixed them."

"I love this product. I have a 2007 F-150, being in my mid 50's, I find the step up to the bed challenging. This product works GREAT. I really like the hand hold. I had another model without the handle and this one is so much better. It also works well to secure things in the truck bed, especially propane bottles. I also have a removable and adjustable cargo rack. I always carry a cooler, sodas and fish bait. With these 2 items the cooler is secured and always at the rear of the bed. Anyone with weak knees or a ailing back should get one of these step gates. A great gift for hunters, fishermen or just us old guys who drive a truck. HINT HINT for a Christamas gift, I guarantee your Dad, Grandpa or older friend would much rather have one of these other than another tie."

"I am very pleased with my Step Gate. I have an F-350 4x4 pickup. Climbing up on the tailgate is a chore for a vintage guy like myself. The Step Gate makes it much easier. The installation was pretty easy. The mounting brackets seem to have enough options to be able to fit a variety of trucks. I have been using the Step Gate for a month or so. I have used the truck to glean apples which involves getting in and out of the truck bed to stack bags of apples. The Step Gate makes the job much easier. I also like the quick removal feature for when the bed is full. A number of people have seen it and have commented on the utility of the Step Gate. It is still a healthy step up, but it is much easier than before. Now if they could engineer one more step, it would be perfect."

"AFter purchasing the step gate I found the installation instruction simple and easy to follow. Mounting hardware and the tools provided were adequate but recommend using a rachet and socket for installation with care not to over tighten the attachment bolts. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is that when installed on a 4 wheel drive, standard size pickup truck the distance for the first step is still a long step up. With just a little more engineering and a mechical slide the first step could be lowered to make the climbing into the bed easier for those of us over 60. The product has given me the ability to step up into my truck bed which is the purpose for my purchase."

"The step gate may be fine for stock half ton or smaller trucks. ( BUT ) Why would you need one?? However for my one ton 4X4 Dodge with 34 inch tires the step gate does not help. The step needs to be lower by at least double the drop."

"The step gate is rusting after only a few weeks. Rain water is leaking into the tubing even though there are caps on the ends. It is rusting from the inside out. I have a bed cover I use frequently and I can not close it because the step gate is in the way. I have to release the locking pin on the step gate and push it down to close the cover. Also, three of protective caps that fit over the mounting bolts were missing, therefore exposing the bolts to the weather and future rusting. I am not very pleased with the product."
