Great product and even better service,November 11, 2009
By hegemajofrom Oneonta NY
"First hike with the stick convince me it was just the product I needed; however, when putting it in the car I noticed the end tips were missing. I was told repair parts weren't available but that the tips should not have worked loose and they would send another stick at no charge. Sold me on Cabela's although I admit I have been for quite a few years.
The design is sturdy, comfortable to use and the compass on the hand hold is a bonus."

Good for lite use,August 28, 2009
By WildWaDavefrom Redmond, WA
"I have had two of these. One I lost after a year, and the second still leans in the corner. It is good for lite use, but if you are going to put serious miles, look for dedicated trekking poles.
That said, if you hike with any kind of a pack, a pole is priceless. I bought this staff for the versatility. I used it as a monopod for a camcorder in Africa, and it made a big difference. And when you are loaded with a pack, the staff really helps with balance in rough country or crossing streams.
One complaint is that the knob assemply came loose, which is bad because the wrist strap is attached to it. It is supposed to have a screw in compartment for matches, but the aluminum striped easily. But it still got my son through 85 miles at Philmont.
If on sale, get two!"

Alaskan Guide Hiking Staff,August 4, 2009

"All seems to be in order. The staff seems strong and durable, but I have not yet been out to use it on a mountain trail yet. After I have used it in a more rugged terrain I will try to submit a follow-up review."

"Got this FREE with the Alaskan Guide Tent, appears to be well made, have not used yet, so we will see. However, if I had to buy it, I myself would not pay what they are asking."

Gets me there and back,July 25, 2009
By Aquilegiafrom Appalachian Ohio
"I received the hiking staff as a gift just over a year ago and I haven't had the first problem - no loose tips, no cracked compass housing. Most of my hikes are 6 miles or less so it hasn't gotten a heavy duty work out but I have used it in all 4 seasons. I haven't figured out how to turn the shock absorber off/on but it is always on and works fine."

Poor quality,July 25, 2009
By Lepomisfrom East Tennessee
"I purchased this for my wife as we wanted to start hiking more. It arrived with a broken compass, which we ignored since we didn't really need a compass. But after the 3rd or 4th hike the entire tip came off. Not just the rubber tip, but the whole piece came off. No fixing this one. Shop around before you get this one."

Inexperienced Hiker's Rating,July 14, 2009
By Jobiejfrom IL
"Went to Yosemite July 09. The Hiking Staff worked well but I am glad I read the other rating comments as I watched the tip of the staff a lot! Yes, it kept getting loose and I tightened it a lot...other than that, I thought the staff worked very well. We used it for camera a couple times too. All and all, I think it is a good staff but hope they can get a better tip on the future ones."

Great buy and quality!,July 14, 2009
By Bloodhoundedfrom Northeast PA
"This staff was purchased to hike and geocache the back mountain country. It has assisted me in climbing, water crossings and just taking some of the pressure off in long hikes. It looks nice with a scratch resistant finish and once adjusted stays that way. Light weight but sturdy and slick looks gives this product 5 starts in my book. I have not experienced some of the issues that I read about loose tips, noise and other negative remarks. I guess there are better hiking staffs but for the price and after nearly 30 miles of northeast territory hiking, it still looks and feels like new. Highly recommended. Also, Cabela's service and prompt shipping was outstanding. Thanks for making quality available and affordable!"

needs a tweak,May 12, 2009
By wackyjacketfrom Westerville, Ohio
"I love this thing except for one thing; the rubber foot screws on but won't stay tight. I lost mine the first time I had in the woods. I made sure it was tight before I left the truck and about 1/2 hour later I stopped to look around, looked down and it was gone. You need a push button or some device that keeps it locked until you want it off. If not, order a bunch of the rubber tips because you will sell a lot of them. Otherwise, I love everything about it. It is as good as advertised."

Pretty good buy,January 26, 2009
By JimCIfrom Colorado, enjoy lots of outdoor activities.
"I read earlier reviews before I made this purchase. The main complaints were 1) the compass was of poor quality and 2) the rubber tip came off easily. When I got the hiking staff, I noted the poor quality of the compass (didn't matter to me, I take a GPS when I hike). I also noted the ease with which the rubber tip unscrewed. To fix that I put pipe fitting paste on the threads. I've been snowshoeing several times with the hiking staff and have had no problems with the rubber tip coming off.
I'm well satisfied with the product, but wish they had put in a thermometer instead of a compass."

Locktite the tip!
Only dissapointment is minor, if you're going to make a quality product, Why skimp on an air filled compass?"

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Hiking Staff,January 11, 2009
By SnowTigerOne
"I received my "Hiking Staff" as a Christmas Gift and I LOVE it. So much so that I'm ordering a 2nd.
I love the fact it's adjustable in length AND has an Internal Shock Absorber that contains an on/off capability.
As mentioned above I'm ordering a second one. What more is there to say except maybe Thank You "Cabela's".

Great Product,January 3, 2009
By nevadacrossfrom Nevada
"This is a great little tool to have along on a muzzle loader hunt. It helps to have a third point of contact climbing around steep terrain. The rifle rest is pretty handy if you have to make a standing shot. My wife loves it for taking pictures."
