This is a new and improved version of our already popular Big Horn II tent, and we made it sturdy enough to take on extreme conditions encountered on extreme adventures. It's a roomy single-wall tent made of XTC fabric that repels rain and snow with ease, and is tough enough to handle harsh foul weather. A heavy-duty steel frame ensures support to withstand wind and precipitation. The tent measures 12 ft. x 14 ft. with an 8'6" roof tapering to 5'6" sidewalls. The hexagonal design offers room for cots, gear and a stove around the sides while leaving the middle area open. We moved the stove area to keep the wall near the stove cooler. Three large multiple-panel windows include zippered covers, a clear-vinyl zip-out window and a mesh screen. There are three fold-down shelves that have mesh cup holders. There's a sidewall stove jack, a storm flap and a heat-resistant insert, as well as a zippered opening in the sewn-in floor for a stove. The inverted "V" door is outfitted with a heavy-duty zipper. Includes 12" steel stakes, guy ropes and zippered storage bag. The stakes weigh 11 lbs. Tent and frame weight is 61 lbs. Imported.

Big Horn III tent,November 19, 2009
By JetBCfrom British Columbia
"This is an excellent tent. We had opportunity to use this tent in adverse conditions in Nothern BC in late October 09. We faced heavy rain, wind and snow and it withstood them all. The tent was combined with the vestibule, the barrel stove and the spark protection sheet on the tent.
The tent sheds snow very well and we did not have any condensation. We are not sure how cold it dropped to but I estimate around -13 degrees C. (cold enough to freeze up the safety mechanism and firing pin on my rifle on two differnet mornings) and I was able to wear my shorts inside the tent at all times!
We had a folding table inside and a self standing rack from which we hung our wet gear on hangers and everything kept dry. In a late fall situation like this, the tent provides great space for two people. Three would be pushing it for me in terms of adequate space to dry gear.
In my opinion, the tent is over ventilated which results in cold air pouring in needlessly. This may be a case of over engineering based on six people in the tent consuming oxygen. We tried, unsuccessfuly, to block off a couple of the vents but I will find a better way for next time. I believe that a couple of the side vents could be removed IF a fresh air vent was installed in the back wall to provide O2 directly to the wood stove.
Overall, a great tent.
PS. I would like to meet the person who said he said he set the tent up in 20 minutes by himself. It took us over 20 minutes just to remove alll the tent gear from the sacks in preparation for assembly. I would strongly suggest taping the various sections of the poles together to prevent them from separating before trying to set up the tent."

Big horn III tent,October 11, 2009

"We have had the tent for 1 year. I just got back from elk camp, where it snowed for the first two days. We had the wood stove going and we stayed nice and warm. We had high winds and the tent did great. I would recommend the vestibule. When it snows or rains, you have a spot to take off your boots and wet cloths, so you would not have to do it in the tent."

Big Horn™ II Tent,September 11, 2009
By stinger13from Oliver Springs,TN
"I bought the Big Horn II right before they change to the III. A little problem setting up the first time, but first time every tent is a little pain to set up. Lots of room seen reviews about not being able to put 2 xl cots and stove, I don't see it plenty of room in this tent. There are a couple of things I would have changed if I designed the tent, First the stove would have moved to either side of the door instead of clear into the tent or else put doors on both ends of the tent. That way wood doesn't have to be carried past bedding and other gear, pesonally i would opt for the stove by the door and only 1 door (my wife thought doors on both ends would be better). Second would be the lantern hanger that i have seen others talk about. Third a tent wall protecter and heat reflector for the inside for peace of mind to protect the tent wall and an air gap for the stove jack, like a short section of double wall pipe for going threw the roof just like you do for a house. The fourth and final improvement would be a optional ground cloth so that the tent floor would last longer. I used mine for 8 day trip the first of sept and am going to used for a 10 hunt in mid oct. I still have not used the stove in it ,but my stove changes are my opinion of what would work better for my use and maybe yours too. If i have to do over i would still buy this tent."

"i had bought the big horn II about 2 years ago. the first time i got to use it withe the stove was last april for the opening day of trout . it got to about in to the 20's at night. we hade the stove going pretty hot and keep it nice and warm in there. the only down fall with this tent is the stove flap sits to close to the pipe and it melted the flap.if they made the flap to open down instead of up it would solve the problem.other than that this tent is great!"

"This is an exceptional tent. And SOOO easy to put up (did it by myself, pausing to read instructions, and it only took me 25 mins.)..The second time I assembled it, I had it up, by myself in less than 20...The material is well made and the quality is excellent...Have recommended this tent to at least 3 of my friends that were looking for a similar style and size."

Great Tent. Get the Extras Too,April 17, 2009
By PatH62from Oklahoma
"I, and my two grown sons, used it on our Colorado elk hunt this year. There was plenty of room for three very large cots and all our gear. We equipped the tent with the floor liner for extra protection from punctures, and the vestibule for added storage space. They were both good choices.
One word of advice for setting up camp; make sure the floor opening for the stove doesn't sit in a low spot, as water pooling under the opening will leak through the zipper. As long as water flows freely under the tent you should have no problem with the floor or the tent keeping you dry and comfortable."

2008 Elk Season,March 5, 2009
By Bandit36from Oak Harbor, WA
"As excited as I was to go Elk hunting I was equally excited to use the Big Horn 3 with the stove, floor protector and the ceiling protector for the stove. I bought the stove pipes and spark arrester as well. The set took about twenty minutes with two people and the stove was easy to assemble. As I fired up the stove, there was a ever-present smell of melting rubber as the stove pipe got red hot and began melting the seal. As the weekend progressed I noticed that the seams of the tent melted. The next time I use the tent I'm going to invest in a reflective barrier to be placed behind the stove to help reflect the heat away from the tent wall. Overall the stove, at times, kept the tent between 70 and 85 degrees. The Flue which I aslo purchased allowed me to control the temperature and slowed down the burning process of the seasoned douglas fir and maple I was burning."

Big Horn III,February 9, 2009
By Steele27from Edmonds, Wa
"Just bought this tent and set it up in the backyard, Highly recommend for the first time. Set up for one person is a breeze, but follow your directions as stated in a couple of other reviews. We just had a small storm come through the area with just about everything you would want to test your new tent (wind, snow, rain) passed with flying colors since I didn't have time to seal the seams. Everything stayed completely dry. The entire tent from poles to stakes are top notch in my opinion and are certainly strong enough to handle extreme weather conditions if completly staked out. I suppose if there has to be a down side to this thing it's that the shelves and pockets inside are only about a foot of the floor, but not really something I would complain about. The vents probably should have some way to close, I noticed when the wind blew that it was pretty drafty and would be nice to close off the (wind side) with a velcro flap. All in all a very well thought out design and look forward to getting out during hunting season."

its ok,January 5, 2009
By beanpilefrom Missouri
"the floor plan only lends itself to 2 oversized cots comfortably. You need to waterproof your seams and the application they supply is not sufficiant. Its very difficult for just 2 people to assemble especially so if one is a woman. The zipper on the door is a pain to use for mid-night runs to the wee wee tree and after 3 years the zipper has broke and we are hoping Cabelas will be helpfull in getting replacement zippers because as of yet we are unable to find them..
If all things work it holds heat well ( we always put an extra tarp over it) & is very sturdy in bad weather. For the $$ you probably cant find better but I'd sure try to spend more If I was to go Rocky Mtn fall hunting every year."

Bighorn II,December 5, 2008
By Chadicus01from Sherwood, OR
"Got the Bighorn II last year, and finally drew our Elk Tags this year. This season was my first experience ACTUALLY using the tent. I am now a HUGE fan of the Bighorn II Tent. Really simple to set up with one or two people. I arrived to camp late,,,,, sort of my M.O. if you knew me ;). My Dad and I set the tent up in a snow storm, in fading light, and temps in the 20's,,,,,, took us no more than 15-20 minutes. Very very simple. I used a pellet burning stove with 4" stove pipe. I know the stovepipe hole is 5", but I had read a couple of earlier reviews about the rubber ring melting a little so I used the 4" and made a 10"x10" (4" hole") "Flashing" to cover the gab. Worked great! The flashing held the 4" pipe away from the tent material, centered in the stovepipe hole, and allowed a 1/2" space between the actual stovepipe and the rubber gasket. Kept the snow and rain out and protected the rubber very nicely. With the stove rockin in the tent I bet it got upwards of 70-80 degrees in there. First time using the stove, so the first night was more of a learning experience than anything. Cupholders are fold down type on the walls of the tent, they were great, plenty of storage pockets and. Only 2 things could have made this a better tent in my humble opinion. Would have been nice to have some kind of hanger on the ceiling for a lantern, I just set mine on a cooler I had in there. Secondly,,,,,, there seems to be too many vents in there. 2 big ones up high on ether end, and what,,,, 4 or 5 about a foot or so off the floor all around the inside. There is no real way of sealing them up. Not that you want it air tight in there, but some kind of "Roll-Up" flap or something that you could adjust how much flow you get would have been nice. I just ended up using a little "Gray tape" to seal them up a little. Even with the stove going full bore the temps outside were in the teens and it seemed to let in a little too much of the cold air. Not complaining mind you, I will have a fix for next season. Still would recomend to anyone looking at a good elk tent. in terms of roominess, this time it was just me on an XL cot with a table and 2 chairs. Could easily house 2 XL cots and a table and a chair. I have 2 boys that are just about the right age for hunting themselves, so I am looking into the Bunkbed Cots,,,,,, should still be plenty of room for all our gear. Like I said, this was the first time using it and I have a few ideas in mind for the next time, but I wanted to give an honest opinion. Sorry for the rambling. I am going to get the vestibule for it. A place to store the above mentioned cooler, and a place to take off muddy boots would have been fantastic! Good Luck everyone, and if you are looking for a lightweight 2-3 person all weather tent for deer or elk season,,,,,,, look really seriously at this one. It is worth every single penny! You won't be disappointed!"

BighornIII,November 13, 2008
By Desertfox105from Sierra Co., New Mexico
"What a great tent. I've used many different tents in places like Canada, Isle Royale, Pictured Rocks, Gila National Forest, Cibola National Forest to name a few. What a well thought out design and plenty of room! I didn't experience the rubber ring on the stove jack melting and I burned about as hot as you should without damaging the wall??? I went for the Hunter model of stove and bought a grate for the stove and a 4'x5' fire resistant stove mat to prevent damage to my floor liner. The roof protector performed as it was supposed to but I also used the spark arrester that you can purchase separately. Didn't feel like dealing with the collapsible pipe so I purchased five sections of straight 5" pipe. I was using four sections to put the top of the arrester well above the 8'6" center of the tent. I also drilled the supports of the arrester and put three screw eyes and bolted them into the part of the arrester that fits on top the stove pipe just in case we had to tie the stove pipe in heavy wind. Never tied the pipe and we experienced approximately 35mph wind one evening as a storm blew in. The tent has plenty of venting that can be closed by hanging clothes in front of the two top vents and we used Velcro to close some of the lower vents and did not stake them out. READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST!!! This tent is simple to set up but it's not what you might think. The poles go in a very specific location and sequence.....was much easier after reading the printed word. Great tent and will buy another if this one wears out but from the quality workmanship I saw, I'll be using it for years to come."

Bighorn,October 28, 2008
By cordillerafrom British Columbia
"I've had a Bighorn II for four seasons and it is great. We fly in to remote lakes, so it has the advantage of low weight when there are no trees around for poles (northern british columbia). it is roomy, and well constructed; has withstood near gale force on mountain tops and not a single tear or problem with construction. Only two drawbacks; one is that condensation is an issue if you have wet weather; canvass is better for releasing condensation. The second is that the stove jack did start to melt a bit with a very hot fire; I fixed that by using a short piece of pipe slightly larger than the stove pipe itself and creating a dual wall pipe where it goes through the jack. The small air channel between the stove pipe and the second pipe cools it down enough to prevent melting. If you need a roomy tent with low weight, including poles, this is a fine tent."

Nice tent,October 22, 2008

"Room enough for 2 outfitter xl cots, 5' table, wood burning stove, (3) 5 gallon jugs of water, boxes of fire wood and all our hunting equipment. Flip down holders and storage bags on walls came in handy for water bottles, keys, glasses. Toasty warm with the stove going all night. A breeze to set up and take down, even in the wind. Thoroughly enjoyed the hunt with this setup."
