It's hard to find an all-season tent that is able to accommodate a family or even a couple friends, and that's why we're offering our XPG™ Expedition 4-Season Tents in two-, four- and six-person models. Reinforced continuous pole sleeves rigidly hold a DAC 7001 T6 aluminum four-pole frame so these tents can stand up to heavy snowfall, violent wind, pounding rain and sleet. The tent bodies are constructed of rugged, 70-denier 190T taffeta nylon for seasons of service in the most demanding terrain and weather. We constructed the rain flies of polyester because it has superior UV resistance, and then treated them with a 1,500mm waterproof-rated coating to lock out the elements. The two doors on the flies have accompanying vestibules and dual two-way zips with snagproof cording for easy ventilation. Clear windows give you good visibility, and shrouded mesh vents allow air to move through the flies while keeping out moisture. Inside each tent, you'll find an organizer panel to keep your equipment and personal items off the ground. Highly visible reflective guy lines prevent trip-ups in low light. Tub-shaped floors afford maximum protection from the elements. Heavy-duty extruded-aluminum stakes are included. Heavy-duty YKK® zippers with snagproof zip cording are used throughout. xpg 6 man tent,November 13, 2009
By Junyerfrom Miles City,MT
"Great tent. Well designed ,well built and spacious. Love the head room.
I do recommend ( as a previous reveiwer recommended) that when setting it up you put in the poles that go from corner to corner, erect the tent and them install the mid poles. I set it up in 16 minutes on my first try solo."

Quality 4 Pole Design,October 31, 2009
By mathackefrom Virginia
"I purchased the 6 man version for a family of 4 for car camping and winter use at deer camp. If you have ever put up any type of tent you can put this tent up in 20 minutes without the directions. Two people helps but can be done alone with a little patience. The sleeve design makes it impossible to put the poles in wrong.
My five year old and I pitched the tent and fly in 20 minutes with no problem. I will say to pay close attention to the wind, as you don't stake this tent until its up. Within fifteen minutes of having it up, we had 30 mph gusts and heavy rain. The tent did not budge in the wind and not a drop of rain inside.
The vents on the fly are a good design. You can prop them open for extra circulation or lower them down in really bad weather. The design did not allow rain in even when I had them up.
Cabelas should offer a quality floor liner for this tent. The one they sell is junk and does not fit corner to corner for this tent. Also they should include some floor grommets for attaching a floor liner securely.
The rear vestibule should be the same size as front. It really ads no extra usable room in the back.
Overall this a really nice tent for this price range."

"This tent has met my expectations in that it is very easy for one person to set up/take down in 15 min. It is very sturdy and has an abundant of tie downs to insure it will withstand extreme weather conditions. Have used it twice in NC mountains and really appreciate its features."

"We have done two trips to Lake McConaughy this summer with wicked thunderstorms at night. I am completly impressed with this tent and it's ability to withstand driving rain and wind without a single issue. Easy to put up and and very easy to take down. Could not be happier and can't wait for hunting season!"

Review Part I: Set up and take down,August 21, 2009
By ZebraMusclefrom SE Michigan
"I brought the XPG Four Season (2 person) home last night, and immediately began to set it up.
Pros: - terrific stuff-sack w/carrying handle - aluminum poles are top-shelf - gear pockets - zippered vents atop the tent - doors on both sides - heavy-duty full coverage rainfly complete w/proper ventilation mechanism and serious guy ropes - two vestibules
I set this tent up by myself, first time, w/o consulting the directions, in about 15 minutes minus staking out the guy ropes. Take-down took about 20, as I had to re-pack it a couple of times to figure out how small I could roll it.
Cons: - the floor appears to be a bit thin, so I'll use a ground cover and/or floor saver just to be sure.
That's the end of my review Part I. I'll add more after getting this puppy out into the elements where it belongs. Can't wait!
Z."

You will NOT find any better for twice the price,July 8, 2009
By oldhermanfrom Kenai, Alaska
"I've been tent camping for over 60 years in the wildest most inhospitable conditions you can imagine, often alone and sometimes with family. Do not believe the reviews about this tent (4 man) being dificult to set up. It is easily accomplished by one old man deep in the wilderness all alone in Alaska, in about 20 minutes, ... or 10 to 15 enjoyable minutes, with a friend or family. As with ALL tents, including the best and most expensive brands, you must subtract one person from the rated # and you will have actual capacity for camping more than one night, especially for extended trips lasting several days or even weeks. My wife and 13 year old son and myself purchased this tent after much research, and began using it for extended back packing trips into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge this past winter 2008/2009. Using snowshoes and a toboggan, winter excursions by foot into the wilderness are extremely enjoyable. For safety and security, it is important to have the necessary equipment and functional quality equipment, such as this Cabela's XPG tent. I have used tents costing more than twice as much, with big brand names, but I have never seen a better engineered, better designed, better quality, nor more functional tent. It is an outstanding 4 season tent. This tent and a Garmin basic Etrex H for about $100 and a good compass with adjustable declination and a free satelite view or topo map from the internet, with a little common sense, can bring you the pleasure of year round camping fun."

Excellent design and Excellent construction,July 7, 2009
By HighlandTrekkerfrom Arizona
"I camp on the Mugollon Rim in Northern Arizona at about 7,500 ft. The weather can change quickly from hot and dusty to cold and wet. I reviewed a lot of tents before I purchased the 6-man version of this one. It has all the features I wanted; that is, true 4 season, storm-proof, durable, and capable of being setup my one person.
I setup the tent before the camping trip so it went up quickly. I found that by inserting the two corner-to-corner poles, then raising the tent and installing the two remaining poles it goes up easier for me. I may just not know how to do it according to the instructions, but it goes up easily anyway.
I had the tent setup for about two hours when the storm hit. Heavy rain (a real gully-washer), wind to 25 mph, and then hail. The tent stayed completely dry and secure even without the guy-lines on the rain-fly secured. The floor seems to be sealed completlely and not require any additional seam-sealing.
All the zippers worked beautifully, and the vent design is excellent. I particularly like the fact that the tent, without the rain-fly is well suited to hot weather. Both the doors and the vents in the top of the tent give you the ventelation control you need to keep the tent cool in hot weather, or close them up if the weather changes.
I made a foot-print out of a poly-tarp because I wanted a little heavier material under the tent floor (I camp in pretty rocky terrain), and I purchased some longer stakes, just to make sure.
Overall, this is a well designed and well built tent that will take you through about anything you're likely to encounter.
Thank you Cabelas!"

Tank of a Tent- Worth every pound & dollar,July 3, 2009
By noelj07from Fort Collins, CO
"I live in Colorado and I'm always finding myself hunting in the wildest conditions. My elk and deer hunting spot is at tree line (10,500 ft) and the conditions up there change every hour. Last year, I had three different storms come through my hunting area in a three hour period. The first storm was a rain storm, second storm was snow, and the last storm was at sunset with blowing snow that lasted through the evening. There is no greater comfort in knowing that after all day of weather like that, to come down to a tent that can handle all of this!
I set up the tent myself and it only took 15-20 minutes. After reading all the reviews about how hard it was to setup I was a little leary on how it would be for me to set it up since I'm always out by myself. I'm not sure the guys on the other reviews have ever set up a tent before, but this wasn't a problem for me at all. Once the tent was set up, it never flinched in any condition that I've been in.
This tent has also been with me in Alaska Moose hunting and I wouldn't want any other tent. If you've been up to Alaska, you know that the conditions are pretty crazy and especially in the area that I was in (kenai) there wasn't a dry piece of ground anywhere. It was all marsh and the tent was litterally sitting in water. I'm not sure about you, but that was pretty much the craziest conditions I've been in and I was perfectly dry.
The tent is a little heavy at 9lbs, but being a 4 season tent, it's not bad. I just got back from backpacking this tent in from my elk hunting spot in Colorado (to scout) and again, with all of the snow runoff, there wasn't a dry piece of ground. The woods still had three feet of snow and the openings had a minimum of 1/2 inch of standing water from the snow runoff. The tent held up and kept me dry the whole time while scouting.
I really really like the two door access for this tent. It makes it nice so that you don't have to crawl over somebody to get outside in the middle of the night. On top of that, both doors have a vestibule that allows you to keep boots and small backpacks outside and still dry."

Very Nice Tent,June 1, 2009
By vthompsonfrom Huntington,WV.
"I purchased this tent after a lot of looking on the internet, and I have not been disappointed. It goes up easy I think, because my wife and I had it put up and staked down in less that 30 minutes. We get a little quicker every time that we use it. The XPG is very nice and it has a lot of room plus, you can also stand up in it. I can see us using this tent for years to come."

XPG Expedition Tent,March 24, 2009
By PaulfromPafrom PA
"Have not camped with it as yet although did set it up and repacked ready for trip. Need to actually use it for a true application review. But as far as set up and pack up it was straight forward and not hard. Appears that it will handle snow but do not know how much. I really like the tether lines, have the confidence it will handle winds. Look forward to see how the external vents hold out driving rain."

It was my first time,March 11, 2009
By 2bacamperfrom California
"I have made several purchases from the Cabela line and have been very pleased. This is the first product that I could not give 5 stars. The tent functioned very well for the first time. Seting up will become easier with time.. The nighttime temperature was near freezing and the next day winds in the area were around 40 mph, Tent is very stable and no breezes got in. I would have no problem recommending it to my friends.
If I’m paying this kind of money for a tent, there are some changes that could be made.
Things that would improve the product.
(1.) This is the first dome tent I have set up that you are not directed to stake out the floor first. It could be a problem with windy conditions and the erected tent just flying around the campsite.
(2.) The industry standard says a 10 X 10 tent is large enough for 6 friends. Well I’m not that friendly; I think three bodies would be quite enough. The two vestibules for equipment storage do make a lot more sleeping room.
(3.) I’m leery about those skinny little tent pegs. I have used them before and they aren’t that dependable, especially when the ground has a high percentage of sand.
(4.) I would suggest that the stake / pole sacks be made with either Hunters Orange or the bright yellow that is tent color. The flat gray is easy to lose in the ground cover.
(5.) “Take down instructions” should also be printed and include the fly. I tried to go in reverse order but that just didn’t work. When my tent arrived all of the doors and windows were closed, and that's the way it went up. But taking it down it would not deflate. The unplanned way I got it down; the wind blew it over.
(6.) Make available a ground cloth for the footprint, as the instructions recommend."

Awesome tent for the money,February 21, 2009

"We slept in this tent in 35 mph winds and it did not move or make a sound! The temp did not get below 18f, but we had no condensation and it was about 20 degrees warmer in the tent than the outside temp. The four man will sleep two adults with gear comfortably."

4-season tent,February 10, 2009
By Oktarfrom Corvallis, OR
"I like the bright yellow and some black colour combination. It very cool looking.
I haven't take the tent out and set it up yet. Therefore I don't know how good the tent is or how durable the fabric/aluminum materials are. I trust that the materials are of superior quality since the price was expensive even when it was on sale. Mostly, I bought it because it was shown with a full-cover rain fly that goes all the way to the ground, covering the tent completely. The full-cover is very important to me because western side of Oregon and Washington State rains a lot. It's a temperate rain forest region.
Eventhough I have not set it up to see yet. again, I place my trust in Cabelas products that I got the full-cover rain fly for my tent. The way it was shown on the picture. I hope I'm not wrong and Cabelas has not let me down.
I rate it as four stars because I seem satified by it for now. And if the rain fly is what I expected it to be, full-cover and not having gaps along the bottom of the tent, once it is set up. Then it would be rated as five stars."

Cabela's XPG Expedition 4-Season Tent,February 9, 2009
By LVcamper17from Las Vegas, NV
"I camp year-round as part of my job and this is a great tent if you are going to be camping for a several days or more. For over-nighters, it is bulky and seemingly impossible to put up without two people. The interior is roomy and provides ample space for gear (in the vestubile) and for sleeping multiple people. I would recommend this tent for longer trips, but stick to the quick-pitch tents for over-nighters and short forays."

Solid tent,February 9, 2009
By Mexsurferfrom San Diego
"I bought this tent knowing the windy conditions of Baja's beaches. We had 20-30 mph winds with stronger gusts which broke poles in other peoples tents. My tent was solid even without the guy lines tied on each side. The fly tightened down was strong enough, but nice to know the guy lines could be used for extreme conditions. Only fine dust blew in through the top vents which were open. Didn't get to use it in rain, but think it would handle well. Well built and easy to set up and break down."

field use with horses,February 5, 2009
By hardcase001from pine buffs, wy.
"1- need different colors 2- need a window on all four sides 3- make back vestibule like front 4- bring vestibules down to ground level 5- a few more pockets and florescent tie down strings I rode my 2 horses out from broken bow ne. to cheyenne, wy. I bought a orange exp 2 man tent and it stood up to 60 plus winds without the guide lines down. its light and it delivers what it advertises and now am getting a bigger 6 man version for now i have another person joining me and 2 more horses. The vestibules are great for storing the horse smelly stuff so its not in the tent with you. I will certainly try never to go camping without an exp tent from now on. As i said, ad those features and then leave it alone. Someone finally made a good tent. But ca'nt help but wonder how they will mess it up or maybe they'll just quit making it. That would be my luck !!!
p.s. will leave pinebluffs, wy. in the spring & ride up through the black hills then over to jackson hole,wy. then maybe down to southern utah if everything goes well. bye!!!"

Well-made Tent!!,January 27, 2009
By Anonymousfrom Colorado
"This past weekend we used 3 new XPG Expedition 4-Season Tents from Cabela's at our scout district's Klondike Winter Camp up in the Colorado Rockies. It snowed and the wind blew fiercely during the night. Our 3 tents stood the test and held firmly. I felt adequately insulated from the cold. They were well worth what we paid for them. Thanks!"
