Thingamabobber,
November 9, 2009
By Flannigan

"The Thingamabobber is by far the best strike indicator I've ever used. I've been fly fishing for 35 years and tried them all, from hand-tied to manufactured.
They are perfect for both low and high water conditions. They support heavier high-water dropper rigs with ease. The orange colors and 3/4" size work best for me. I've used them with both 3 and 5-weight rods and they cast with ease and float very high on the water. They are very easy to install or remove from the leader.
Also, the Thingamabobber is perfect for the novice fly fisherman. Their design and construction makes seeing those subtle trout strikes more noticeable to the beginner."

Thingamabobber,
August 1, 2009
By Chipmunk8

"The Thingamabobber is the greatest bobber I have ever found. Thats right...I said bobber, not indicator. I use the small size as a bobber on light SPINNING tackle. It is small enough that bluegills don't seem to feel the resistance much and yet with one very small split shot I can cast it a solid 30 feet. (which is all that is needed for gill fishing) Using them I can outfish people using the standard red and white plastic bobbers 10 gills to 1! I also plan to try them for trout fishing with spinning gear soon, but I can already tell it will work great as long as I use enough shot to cast across the stream. I will be ordering more soon.
One hint: Make sure you are careful to follow the mounting directions. I have seen people loop the line back onto the line itself instead of on the bobber's stem as directed. If done incorrectly it will lead to decreased line strength. I imagine this is what caused the line breakage experienced by a couple of the previous reviewers."

Thingamabobber,

"First became acquainted with this product last year while fishing in Yellowstone National Park. Since then, I have retired my yarn indicators and use the thingamabobber exclusively. I've tried the 1/2", 3/4 and inch sizes. I find the 3/4 inch size the best when I'm fishing two flies and a little bit of weight. Very responsive and easy to cast. Don't have to worry about the 3/4" size getting pulled under in the current. Try 'em-you'll like 'em!"

The best . . . so far.,

By Jerry24

"After years of trying all types of strike indicators, the Thingamabobber has become my favorite -- by far. No indicator is perfect for every situation, but this product is close. Floats great and doesn't make large "wake" when it hits the water. They are unsinkable and in most cases make it easy to detect a strike - - depending on the size you choose. I wish it was possible to purchase these in a chosen color, instead of having to buy packages of various colors."

"The floats are OK except they are very wind resistant. I was not impressed. Might be allright on a very calm day, but any wind plays havoc with them. Might be better if they were a little longer and slimmer."

Fly Bobbers,
May 4, 2009
By DriftandTug

|
"These are the best things to come to fly fishing since the graphite rod! Superb ride, stays in place, highly visible in ripples and they are extremely sensitive to subtle strikes. One of the hardest components of fly fishing is the drift, my clients improve within the first 10 minutes of use just by watching the bubble. Must have for guides and anyone else who casts a fly! Great product!"

Great but not perfect.... yet,
January 12, 2009
By kurkomat

"I love these as they're far far superior to the yarn / floatant combo I'm used to. They take up less space in my vest, are quicker to get on the line and off, and are unnaffected by a good dousing from a wave. Keeps on floating!
There are a few issues I've found though. First of all any twitches of the indicator (say in a slow moving run) are hard to detect as the indicator is perfectly round. I've fixed this by drawing a line around the bobber with a sharpie. This helps me see from farther away whether or not I have a subtle take. Secondly, when nymphing on line that's 5X or smaller I've found that the bobber really slips around on the tippett (down towards your flies) after even a few light roll casts, which ultimately leaves your flies shallower in the column than you'd planned. At first I tried doubling up on the lark's head knot attaching the bobber to the leader. This holds the bobber in place but makes it difficult to remove from your rig without cutting your tippett. The best solution I've found is dipping the entire tab of the bobber into rubber cement and letting it dry. Then go back and poke a smaller hole where the original hole was. The combination of rubber cement / smaller hole does a better job of keeping the bobber where you want it to stay on the line but allows for easy removal.
Great product! I expect these will be more and more common the stream in the coming years."
