It's called "Thumper" and it's capable of taking any game animal in North America. Engineered to mount on your mil-spec AR-15 lower, this 16" model hurls the 250-grain Hornady SST/FT .450 Bushmaster bullet downrange at 2,200 fps. Though not designed as a long-range caliber, there's nothing on this continent capable of standing up to the firepower of Thumper and inside 200 yards its accuracy is outstanding. Recoil has been compared to that of a 20-gauge shotgun. A tubular-aluminum forend allows the barrel to free-float from the nut forward to enhance accuracy. "I finally purchase the 450 bushmaster in Aug 2009. I took it the range out in the Jamestown, SC. along with my freinds in lawenforcement. We put a target out at 25 yards to get the scoped dailed in. 3 hits at bullseye. My firearms instructor freind Russell told me to click it 10 times. We put a target out at 110 yards and I hit it 3 times at the lower left at the bulleye. Russell took 3 hits at the bulls eye just right above my 3 hits. Mike took 3 hits at the bulls eye and the bulls eye was gone. This is a very good round to shoot at 2150 fps and the kick was like a 20 gauge. When I get the time I will test it out beyond 110 yards to at least 300 yards. If you want a round that will knock down just about anything in North America, this is it. Deer season will be here soon so I hope I get a chance to use it."

"Just got back from shooting this gun. It lives up to it's nickname of "Thumper" but it is definitely manageable. Kicks just a tad more than a 12 gauge shotgun; however using an upgraded buffer would probably help significantly. The recoil is actually less than I expected. Mine is outfitted with a night vision scope for hog hunting (which is legal at night in TX). I would definitely recommend this gun to others. It's great to have a large caliber upper that will use the standard AR-15/M-4 lower instead of having to get an AR-10 lower. Eventually I will buy another lower with an upgraded buffer and non-collapsible stock for use with my .450 Bushmaster upper. But for now my AR-15 lower works wonderfully. With the one lower receiver and my .223 and .450 uppers I can hunt just about anything in North America. Highly recommended."

"I shot a cloverleaf pattern at 100 yards with this upper out of the box.. Can not be more happy. Mounted on to my DPMS lower without any problems. I want to hunt with my AR-15 and this round will get it done for sure....."

"Easy to install. Fit my Essential Arms lower perfectly. It's loud but doesn't kick as much as I expected it to. Very little muzzle rise. I plan to hunt with it. Ammo is a bit pricey but Remington is planning to produce ammo for it as well. Definitely fun to shoot."

"WOW!! That is all you can say after that first round goes down range! Its a CANNON!! It is unbeliveably powerful & extremely accurate.
After the initial shock of the brute force of the first round going down range, I started to shoot to zero my new 3X9X40mm Burris Scope. I was shooting from a bench rest at 100 yards. I made one correction to the right & started punching out the center bulls eye!!!!! Its a real Tack Driver, with a kick in the pants.

"Turned my ground hog R 15 into a real hunting gun. Fits great on my R15 Reminton,shoots well at 175 and under,have not tried anything longer yet. Recoil is there but very light. Love my bush master, but right now it is a little hard to find ammo and reloading brass.Bushmaster tells me that will end. It does use small rifle primers and they too are in short supply.September, will tell the tale on black bear,but everything I see so far says no problem."

"Still Grinning, Bushmaster fan here, fit perfect atop my Bushmaster patrolman. Cabelas has good price for this. buy plenty of the Hornady Bushmaster 450 FTX custom ammo when you find it. 200 yards of accurate extreme THUMP, hits like a freight train !!! Recoil about the same as a shotgun. Turns your 223 into a Big game hunting rifle, comes as a flat top, you will need a red dot or scope. For comparison, the Hornady Bushmaster 450 FTX round FILLS the single stack 223 mag, Bushmaster stainless steal mags are second to none. If you love your M-16 type rifle and want to take it big game hunting, this is perfect. 5 BIG GRINS"

"My .450 Bushmaster carbine is setup per Bushmaster's recommendation with a hydraulic buffer and 6 position collapsible stock. I interchange sights between an EOTech 552 and a Leupold VX-III 4.5x-14x 40mm LR (30mm tube) using GG&G Accucam scout rail. Both sights produce extremely accurate groups with this carbine. On my first predator hunt with this tool, it rolled a coyote nicely with one shot. I plan to use this for hunting all game as I rarely encounter shots beyond 200 yards. The recoil as configured is managed nicely, especially with the help of the hydraulic buffer. As far as accuracy goes, with patience, the factory Hornady ammunication produces touching holes at 100 yards. I find the ammunition in stock in my local Cabela's retail store and then by all that they have. I'm stocked!"

"The 450 Bushmaster is a great shooting top and very accurate. The big problem is Hornady is not making the ammo. Bushmaster and Hornady better get it together. Because they have gotten off to a poor start so far. If Hornady starts making ammo,this will be my favorite hunting rifle."
