"I bought this last winter but did not put it to field use it until this last couple of weeks.
A couple of stands I hunted from in NW Minn have shooting lanes where I was able to reliably read distance to large smooth barked trees as much as 300 meters away. I was unable to get distance to trees an further than that .
I had no chance to range deer, but did nail down the distances to game trails they were using.
I took this rangefinder to the hunt, but left my binoculars home thinking the six power monocular would be adaquate to search inside the treeline too - WRONG! The optical quality is fine, but the depth of field a set of bino's privide is missing! Consider this unit as an add-on to a binocular, not a replacement!!!"

"Great product! Easy to use, accurate, and the indications are easy to read. In the field they worked perfectly. However, I would get the retractable tether so it won't bounce around and knock into your binnocs!"

"I have not had a chance to really put it through its paces yet. But what I have seen it is everything that it is advertised to be. I have ranged close for archery targets and done some spot checking in various terrains for long distances. It is light weight and fits in a pocket. I am looking forward to using it both during bow and rifle seasons."

"I am a rifle hunter in Eastern Washington State. Our shooting ranges from 100 to 500 yds easy for both deer and elk. This product is everything it says it is. Very user friendly and very accurate. Also used it for sighting in our rifles. Very impressed and a nice necessity in your hunting equipment."

"I owned one of the older model Nikon Rangefinders and loved it. I sold it to a friend of mine so I could purchase the Riflehunter 550. This one is also great. I especially like the angle compensator. You can't go wrong with Nikons products."

"I have two other brands of range finders, and so far this is the only one that fits in one hand for bow hunting, has the range for rifle hunting and seams reliable and accurate. Our archery range has pins set by surveyors - spot on. NOTE I have only had this one ~ month worth of use. My other hand held (two of them) failed after only 3 months, still holding my breath on this one, but a shooting friend of mine has had his ~ 6 months and they both measure identical ranges.

"A top quality and easy to use rangefinder. I used it last weekend during a 3-D shoot and it worked great. There were targets up on hills and down in ravines and the angle compensation worked flawless. I am glad I upgraded to a Nikon."

"Very happy with this rangefinder.Was a bit sceptical of claims for distance, but have ranged light coloured cows at up to 625 yds and dark ones up to 430...! Haven't had the opportunity yet to try it on a deer..! Pretty good I would say. Only thing I had problem with was understanding the different settings for angle and distance, they could be made a lot clearer I feel as could the sequence of buttons in order to affect them. Also it is claimed that the distance setting should read the farthest target through brush etc and this doesn't appear to work that way. However, I give it 5 stars, just because it does the main job it was designed for..."
