balance kits are inadequate for 9' or 10' lengths,August 30, 2009
By Millerd1from N Tx. Lake, State Catch & Release Record holder
"I own two of these rods, would like to buy more at my purcahse cost, and bought two balance kits. Love these rods for their advertized balance kits and landed 42" 26lb redfish with the smaller one. But, the leverage of even a 9' rod is too much for the kits claimed to "balance" a rod specifications capable of 1.5 or 2 oz plugs.
The balance kit weights are not enough, and the screw thread length of the bottom stem sold as part of one kit and will not hold enough weight even when a part of a second kit is combined. The screw will tighten up, but will eventually break off the plastic female part inside the rod butt.
The screw threads are not any type commercially available, so a longer screw cannot be utilized. My 9ft rod is irreparable broken, and I am working out a modification to permit me to build an competent balancing system.
I am not happy with this balanc-able rod kit system and have seen the rod price rise while I worked out an acceptable balance system retrofit system.
I have two other Tourney Trail 9ft Steel head spinning rods and have caught a Texas Inland Waters 43.5" 36lb Red Drum Catch and release Record using that rod."

Changed My Opinion of Pack Rods,July 13, 2009
By RMillsfrom Buffalo National River, Arkansas
"When an outdoor television host asked me to join him for a smallmouth bass fishing show on horseback, I reluctantly began searching for a pack rod. Concerned that I would have to give up feel and strength for packability, I reviewed several brands and decided to roll with this one, although with an eyebrow raised. Well, this rod changed my mind about breakdown rods. It goes together well, stays together well, and, most importantly, delivers a nice feel and sturdy performance. I paired it with a new Shimano Saros spinning reel (also available at Cabela's) and found the two to be an ideal combination."

Solid fishing pole,July 2, 2009
By menpachifrom Honolulu, HI
"Took this pole to Alaska this summer. It comes with a hard case and a soft rod bag. Rod has plenty of backbone and can fit in a suitcase. The reel seat could be improved to a fuji reel seat without twisted the cork. It didn't come with any weights to add for counter balance. It has a very short butt section, which can make it difficult to cast without the leverage of a long butt. I got the 7ft medium pole and matched it with a 3000 reel with 8lb test. I tried a 4000 reel and the reel felt too big for the rod.
The rod quality is great, and the 4 piece sections stay put. It doesn't feel like fishing with a 4 piece pole. Overall the pole worked well and didn't give me any problems."

Not Your Father's Pack Rod,January 31, 2008
By IowaBoyfrom Iowa
"I know, I know. Two-piece rods are a compromise, and four-piece rods are an abomination. NOT!!
True, 30 years ago, multi-sectional rods were clunky, heavy, and unresponsive.
Not any more!
Cabela's Fish Eagle XML pack rods are every bit as responsive and well balanced as the finest one-piece rods out there--I've done side-by-side comparisons. Where I used to lug an awkward, long rod case on Canadian fly-in trips, now I pack a couple of light, compact rod cases in my duffel bag, and that's it!
I own six of these puppies in various configurations, and they are THE BEST. The first one I bought as a bargain-bin special at the Minnesota Cabela's. I was looking for a spinning rod that felt "right," and kept coming back to one rod among the 20 or so on the rack. Only after I decided that I needed that rod did I notice it was a four-piece. That's how good these rods are!
Moreover, Cabela's stands by their warranty. A couple of years ago I broke the tip of one of these. Took it back to the store, and walked out with a new one, no questions asked.
The balance of these rods is remarkable (and the weight system can put the balance wherever you want it, whatever reel you're using). The tips are very sensitive--you can feel the lightest strike--but there's enough backbone to handle that big Northern that comes sniffing around when you're fishing for Walleye. (The Northern was a 46-incher, by the way...)
